Forever Remembered

This last week June and her inmate trainer have been enjoying their time playing.  He says it’s going to be really hard watching June walk away to her new life.  He takes great satisfaction in knowing that she is going to a loving home that will treasure her for the rest of her life.

Her inmate trainer says that June’s response to basic commands are some of the strongest that he’s ever seen.  She has recently learned how to “shake” as her inmate trainer felt like it was almost required for a girl as cute a June to learn this greeting.  He says that she listens and responds so well that it has made training easy.  He says that it is hard to express how adorable June is! She’s captured the hearts of everyone at the prison and will be forever remembered.

Swap Week!

This week June spent some time with an alternate inmate handler to go over commands.  Her alternate trainer said that working with June was a pleasure!  She’s a beautiful girl who has the cutest Roo where she throws her head back and sings proudly. He says it puts a smile on his face to see her show her love and excitement this way.

Swap week is a great way for the Greyhounds to experience commands from a new person and to spend time away from their primary trainers.  Her alternate handler says that in truth the trainers missed their Greyhounds more than their hounds miss them!

June did great during swap week!  She did miss her primary handler the first few days, but settled in just fine.  He says that June is a well-trained girl who does all of her commands and lots of extras.  Her alternate handler said working with June was kinda like having a week off!

He says that if you’ve never experienced love in your life then get a Greyhound and you can’t go wrong!

Doing A Stellar Job

June has been the perfect princess according to her inmate trainer.  He also says that she’s top of her class with training.  She does all of her commands with verbal and hand signal cues!

This week time was spent working on commands off leash in really loud and distracting areas. June's inmate trainer is proud to report that she did a stellar job!  Outside in the big yard June has a blast running and chasing after her friends.  She enjoys playing with everyone inside or outside!  She will play with any toys, but her favorites are the terry cloth animals and kibble dispensing balls.  Well, for as long as there is kibble inside the ball.  She lays on the bed with other dogs with no problem and even cuddles with her best friend Jasmine.   Out in the dayroom she will lay in her bed for hours watching everything around her.

June’s inmate trainer says that she really is the perfect dog.  She’s playful, but also calm and passive.  She loves toys and treats, but is not aggressive.  She is affectionate, but not clingy and she gets along with everyone!  He believes that she is The Best dog by far!

Working for Retirement

Hello, my name is June and I’m working my way into a forever home!  Yep, I see dog beds and love in my future so I’m working really hard to be the best!  I have an inmate trainer who’s helping me learn all these neat tricks.  He says that my “heel” command needs to improve.  I keep looking deep into his eyes trying to tell him that if he’ll up the ante on the treats we could work something out.

I enjoy toys and playing outside.  I also like to show everyone my cute and amazing skills!  I do really well with the stairs and I have a beautiful voice.  You should take a moment and check out my photo – my ON LINE photo – yep that’s right I’m famous!  I bet you’ll think I’m beautiful! If not, perhaps you should get some glasses and check again – just sayin’.

Well, I guess I’d better go check in with my inmate trainer I wanna make sure he’s not giving my treats out.  More progress to come I promise!

Singing With Happiness

June had a good week playing outside and interacting with people and other dogs.  She was able to spend some time in the big yard and she loves to play with the toys and other Greyhounds.  She is good natured and inquisitive.  Her training is going well and her inmate trainer is working on duration and quicker response times.  She’s doing great with verbal and signal ques!  She’s also learning a few extras: kiss and belly.  She’s still having fun with her new found singing voice.

Her inmate trainer is proud to report that everything is going well and June’s confidence is growing daily!

Little Princess

June has done very well this week with her training!  They added a new command, “belly.”  She is a very quick learner and picked up on this new command with ease.  The rest of the week they spent time working on sharpening all the basics.  She's improving her response on the first que and holding each position for as long as her inmate trainer requests.  Her “stay” and “sit-stay” have come a long way!  Her inmate trainer can now put her in a “sit-stay” and leave the room and she will hold the position until he returns and releases her!  She’s doing really well with “heel” they’re just working to have her hold it until released.  She still got a bit of puppy in her so she can be a little impatient at times.

Her inmate trainer has taught her how to roo and she comes alive with personality when singing the song of her people!  He says that it brings him so much joy and pride to see how happy she has become!  June can be vocal at times, but her trainer is working to help her to understand that being vocal on command is the most rewarding.

June is a soft, sweet, and delicate little girl.  If the other Greyhounds play too rough with her in the yard she tucks her tail and runs for her trainer.  On the way to her inmate trainer’s side she’s happily wagging her tail.  June is a little princess who bonds well with her pack leader.

Finding Her Voice

This week was by far the most fun week working with June!  Her inmate trainer says that June has finally found her voice!  He says that it is the most precious, cute, and adorable puppy voice ever!  He taught her to open up by Rooing with her and tagging every time she would speak.  He then added the hand signal and the “speak” command and phased out his human Roo.  He says that what makes is so cute is that it’s such a quiet Roo, but you can see that she puts everything into it.  What makes this accomplishment such a big deal is how it has changed her personality. Once June found her voice she instantly became more confident and outgoing.  This turn makes her training more fun for both of them.

Basic training is going very well and she already knows all of her basic commands!  They are now working on time and duration of every basic.  Her inmate trainers’ goal is to have her performing all basics on the first verbal que within the next two weeks.

Another impressive trait is that June has great recall outside.  Her inmate trainer can call her from up to 80 feet away and she will come running with her tail going crazy!  In the dorm June has found that she really enjoys laying her head in her inmate trainer’s lap and getting her ears scratched.  Her inmate trainer says that June is a beautiful smart girl with the voice of an angel!

Happy Little Explorer

June has made so much progress with training and her personality has come alive!  In just three short weeks June has gone from a timid little girl to a tail wagging happy little explorer! She goes up to meet everyone new and loves to have her ears scratched no matter who’s doing it!  Her inmate trainer says that it is just amazing to see her understanding how to follow commands and enjoy doing it!  She has a wonderful grasp on the concept of action equals reward and strives to do her best!

June’s new found joy of exploration means that her inmate trainer is having to work a little harder on the recall command.  He says that once he gets her attention she comes running as happy as ever.  Outside in the big yard she runs with the other dogs or trots happily around investigating things on her own.

This week they spent a lot of time working on the “stay” command and her eating etiquette. Her inmate trainer says that it’s important for her to act like a lady who “sits” and “stays” before her meals.  They’ve also been working on proper toy playing manners by rewarding responses to the “give” command.  June was introduced to stairs this week as well.  Now, it took several treats to lure her up and down in the beginning, but by the end she was going up and down without a hitch!

June’s inmate trainer says that one of the great things about this sweet girl is how well she responds to her training team now that they have bonded and share trust.  He says it’s a great feeling to see her look to him for support.

June Bug

June’s inmate trainer says that Christmas with June was wonderful and that she’s been a true blessing in his life.  He says that June is not one to give her trust and affection easily.  She’s made her inmate trainer earn every ounce of trust she has in him.  Because of this it has been a joy to watch her personality slowly come alive. Every day her trainer gets to see a little more from June.  He says that sometimes its just an extra tail wag that wasn’t there the day before or her excitement over toys or other dogs that makes this such a wonderful experience!  Her inmate trainer says that they’re not supposed to turn the dogs into mushy love hounds, but in this case June is turning her trainer into mush!

June is a sweet, gentle, and delicate girl that people can’t help but to stop and notice her.  He says that you can’t help but fall in love with her when you look into her beautiful eyes.

Her training is coming along very nicely.  This past week they worked on heel, bed, and sit.  Heel is her best command so far and bed is well understood.  Now, she takes her time sniffing and circling at first before following through with the bed command. She performs sit with just the lightest touch behind her legs.  Soon she’ll be performing with no direction needed!

June loves food so they get the most learning accomplished before meal times.  She is a very social girl and she loves to be around the other dogs.  Her kennel training and leash etiquette are stellar!  She responds really well to her name and will even recall from 30 feet!

Her inmate trainer says that both he and June are learning from each other and he’s enjoying his time with this sweet girl.  Her new nickname is June Bug and her trainer says it fits her really well!

Training for Treats

June’s inmate trainer says that bonding with June over the last few days has brought him much joy!  He says that June is to Greyhounds as Sandra Bullock is to movie stars: beautiful, respectful, eloquent and classy.  Everyone that sees June talks about how beautiful she is!

June arrived at the prison calm, ready to explore her new environment.  She didn’t mind her grooming session – getting her teeth brush, nails trimmed and a bath.  For the most part she has taken everything in stride.  She’s a very calm girl, slightly shy, and still a little unsure of all the loud noises.  Her inmate trainer believes that once she completely trusts him she’ll start coming out of her shell.

Training started with June learning her name and he’s proud to report that she knows it well! She will respond to her trainer from across a loud room.  Next they worked on “kennel” and she is doing great associating it with a safe place to call home.  Her leash etiquette is improving daily. She plays with a few toys but loses interest fast.  She’s spent some time lying around with her inmate relaxing and building trust.  She’s very treat motivated, actually she LOVES food… so training will be a little easier for her once she figures out the response/treat deal.
