Training for Treats

June’s inmate trainer says that bonding with June over the last few days has brought him much joy!  He says that June is to Greyhounds as Sandra Bullock is to movie stars: beautiful, respectful, eloquent and classy.  Everyone that sees June talks about how beautiful she is!

June arrived at the prison calm, ready to explore her new environment.  She didn’t mind her grooming session – getting her teeth brush, nails trimmed and a bath.  For the most part she has taken everything in stride.  She’s a very calm girl, slightly shy, and still a little unsure of all the loud noises.  Her inmate trainer believes that once she completely trusts him she’ll start coming out of her shell.  

Training started with June learning her name and he’s proud to report that she knows it well! She will respond to her trainer from across a loud room.  Next they worked on “kennel” and she is doing great associating it with a safe place to call home.  Her leash etiquette is improving daily. She plays with a few toys but loses interest fast.  She’s spent some time lying around with her inmate relaxing and building trust.  She’s very treat motivated, actually she LOVES food… so training will be a little easier for her once she figures out the response/treat deal.
