Happy Little Explorer

June has made so much progress with training and her personality has come alive!  In just three short weeks June has gone from a timid little girl to a tail wagging happy little explorer! She goes up to meet everyone new and loves to have her ears scratched no matter who’s doing it!  Her inmate trainer says that it is just amazing to see her understanding how to follow commands and enjoy doing it!  She has a wonderful grasp on the concept of action equals reward and strives to do her best!

June’s new found joy of exploration means that her inmate trainer is having to work a little harder on the recall command.  He says that once he gets her attention she comes running as happy as ever.  Outside in the big yard she runs with the other dogs or trots happily around investigating things on her own.

This week they spent a lot of time working on the “stay” command and her eating etiquette. Her inmate trainer says that it’s important for her to act like a lady who “sits” and “stays” before her meals.  They’ve also been working on proper toy playing manners by rewarding responses to the “give” command.  June was introduced to stairs this week as well.  Now, it took several treats to lure her up and down in the beginning, but by the end she was going up and down without a hitch!

June’s inmate trainer says that one of the great things about this sweet girl is how well she responds to her training team now that they have bonded and share trust.  He says it’s a great feeling to see her look to him for support.
