She's Back!!

Dear Jada was returned to SCG to be rehomed, due to no fault of her own. I've been fostering her for about two weeks now and she is doing great.

She loves squeaky toys and more squeaky toys. I'll get a video of her playing with them soon.  Here is a photo of her simply enjoying retirement while sharing a dog bed with her foster brother, Tito.

Jada and Tito just chillin' out!

Dreaming Of A Forever Family

Jada is such a sweet girl that enjoys being close and loves to be loved on.  She is very spirited and full of energy.  She loves to run, jump and play with all sorts of toys, especially if they squeak or make other noises.  Jada has a rubber pig toy that makes pig noises every time it gets squeezed.  This is her favorite toy.  She will pounce on it, bite it a little bit and toss it in the air to catch it.

Jada is a special greyhound and has lots of love to share.  A forever family would make her dreams come true.  She's a fun loving girl that would be so happy to make your Christmas very merry and bright.

Aims To Please

Jada is a special Greyhound who loves attention from humans. She wants to be near someone, even if it is just to hang out.  Don't get me wrong,  she doesn't mind all the ear scratching and petting that usually goes along with it.  She enjoys other Greyhound company when running out on the big yard too.

Jada has mastered all of her commands:  ""Hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "heel", "here", "sit", "down", "stay", "bed", "jump" and "leave it".  She also learned "back", "give", "drop", "circle" and "bang".  Her list goes on.  Jada aims to please.

Jada has an awesome recall!  She can be across the big yard and her inmate trainer can say "Jada here" and she will run straight to him.  This is a command you should practice with your greyhound on a regular basis.  It is the most important one and could be life saving.

If you are looking for a precious and sweet Greyhound that just loves to hang with humans, then Jada is your girl.

Jump and Spin

Jada is such a character!  There are so many facets to her personality that it's uncanny.  She is always full of energy, but at times she just leans against her trainer wanting to love and be loved on.  At other times she is just so happy to be playing with her toys, especially the squeaky ones.  She loves her trainer to throw them long distances for her to chase, or even to throw them up in the air so she can jump and catch them.  She absolutely loves to jump!  When she is very excited she will jump up in the air and spin around at the same time.  Jada is so funny!  Sometimes she will prance around with her nose and tail in the air, happy and proud of herself.  Her inmate trainer calls her a princess and he thinks she believes it.

Jada has conquered her basic commands and a list of extras.  "Back", "give", "drop", "circle", "take it" and "bang!".  Her trainer makes learning fun.  He loves Jada to pieces and will miss her dearly.  She is going to be a special companion for some lucky family.

Such A Cutie!

Jada's inmate trainer says it is truly a joy working with her.  The excitement and energy she brings every time she comes out of her kennel makes her so much fun!  She is full of life and curious about everything.   Every new person or sound sends her into investigation mode with ears up, head tilted to the side and feet on the move.  She's such a cutie!!

This week her trainer worked on weening her off of being treated every single time she completes a given command.  No treats is still no problem with Jada.  This week was "show and tell".  This is where the dogs go through their commands and show how well they are progressing.  Jada performed her commands flawlessly with no treats.  Her trainer is so proud of her progress.

Jada was introduced to an extra command/trick this week. "Bang!"  When her inmate trainer points at her and says "bang", Jada will fall all the way down into a side flop with her head on the floor.  When her trainer says "release", she jumps back up.  She is catching on, but will require a little more time to perfect it.  There's still time for that, and time to get your application in on this adorable floppy eared girl!

Fast As Lightning

Jada is as fast as lightning!  Her inmate trainer is astounded by her speed.  She is a small girl compared to some of the others, but she outruns the pack time and time again.  Her inmate trainer will call "here" Jada.  She will search the big yard for him and make a bee-line straight for him.  She is such a sweet and loving girl.

This past week there were a couple of cool mornings, so her trainer put on her royal blue and red fleece jacket.  Jada pranced around with her nose and tail up in the air like she was a royal princess.  As if her ego wasn't big enough already, some of the other greyhounds had to come check her out like she was royalty.  It was too funny!

Jada knows all of her basic commands, so this week they worked on "take it".  She is to take what is in your hand and place it on the floor.   Her trainer thinks she will have it mastered soon so she can add it to her list of extras.

Jada continues to grow daily into the great pet she is going to be for that special someone.  She just wants to give love and to be loved on in return.  Treats would be an added bonus...

Practice Makes Perfect

This week Jada spent her time brushing up on her basic commands and her three extras introduced last week, which are "back", "give" and "drop".  Repetition is the key to strengthening them in her memory.  Like the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect".

Jada loves playtime, so to keep training fun and interesting, her trainer adds extra play sessions.  This helps her burn off some of her extra energy and focus during training time.

Jada is also learning a new command this week:  "Circle" - This is where she starts in a position facing her trainer or in the "heel" position.  She then does a complete circle around her trainer and ends with her nose at his right hand, where she gets a treat.  It's a cute little trick and she picked it up very quickly.  She knows the drill; "Circle" = yummy treats!

Jada's inmate trainer says she is such a sweet girl and he is definitely enjoying his time with her.

Social Butterfly

This week Jada and her trainer worked on fine tuning all of her basic commands.  All of their effort paid off.  On Friday of each week, the inmates have a show and tell session.   This is where each dog goes through the list of basic commands.  Their response to each command as well as response time is graded and recorded in order to show where improvement is needed.  Jada performed each command flawlessly.  She is such a good girl and her inmate trainer is so proud of her progress. These are the commands she knows so far:  "hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "heel", "here", "sit", "down", "stay", "bed", "jump" and "leave it".

Jada can lay around and relax when it's rest time, but she is by no means a lazy dog. She is full of energy some of the time.  She loves play time and so far her favorite toy is a furry little ball that has a squeaker in it.  She loves to make it squeak and squeak and squeak...

Also this week Jada was introduced to three extra commands:  "Back", will get her to back up if she's standing in the way.  "Give" and "drop", which will have her "give" up an object that is in her mouth, or drop the object to the floor.  She is catching on very quickly to these new added commands.

If you have an active lifestyle and you like to be around other people, then this little girl is definitely for you.  Jada is an active social butterfly, but it is imperative that you are able to give and receive lots of love.  That is Jada's favorite activity.

Amazing Recall

Jada is such a sweet and loving little girl!  She seems to like the attention from nearly everyone.  Once she turns those caramel colored eyes at you, it's over.  You have to lean down and smother her with love.  She is so precious!!

Training has been moving along nicely this week.  Jada now knows all of her basic commands, but she and her inmate trainer will continue to run through them several times a day in order to lock them in memory and perfect them.

One morning this week, they had access to stairs for training the dogs.  Jada did superbly!  She went up and down every time without being lured or coaxed;  just like she had been doing it all her life.  He inmate trainer was so proud of her.  She was prancing around afterwards.  A job well done, Jada!

Another incredible attribute her inmate trainer wants to mention is that Jada has excellent recall.  Even outside on the big yard, from 40 to 50 yards away, when her inmate trainer calls her name and tells her "here", she will search around the field filled with the other dogs and men all dressed alike, and lock eyes on her trainers'. Regardless of what she is doing, she will run full speed toward her trainer.  When she gets back to him, she is so full of energy, just like a child trying to tell their parent what they did on the playground.

Jada is a special girl.  Don't miss out on this wonderful, smart little girl.  She is too cute to pass up!

Taking Things Slow

This whole week Jada and her inmate trainer continued getting to know one another.  Jada is slow to trust but they are taking things at her pace and she is progressing nicely.  She doesn't jump at loud noises like she did the first few days after arrival.  She is still wary and unsure of people and or objects being behind her, especially ones that make any type of noise.  Her trainer is sure that with repeated exposure to these noises, she will become accustomed to them.

Jada and her trainer has continued with leash etiquette, the "name game", and the "attention game".  They also worked on the commands "wait", "release", "let's go" and "heel" every time she exits the kennel and they revisit them frequently the whole time she is out.  Her trainer is pleased with her progress.

Later in the week her inmate trainer introduced the commands "leave it", "down" and "sit" while in the training room.  He adds these into her other commands.  Repetition, repetition for perfection.  That's the goal.

Jada is such a sweet girl!  She loves to be pampered and loved on.  Her inmate trainer exposes her to lots of people, so she learns to be comfortable with others.  He lets her approach them and she just eats up the attention.

Jada is as fast as a rocket when she plays outside with her other greyhound friends.  Sometimes they run like they are still at the track.  Give them something or someone to chase and they are off!

Jada is a special little girl with the cutest ears around and is looking for her forever family.  Could it be you??

Fast Friends

Jada and her inmate trainer have spent the past few days getting acquainted and acclimated to her new surroundings.  It was quite a culture shock to her from where she came from, and now being in prison.  She still seems a little timid and wary of many things, but she is making progress and Jada and her trainer are becoming fast friends.

Jada and her inmate trainer have been playing the "name" game and the "attention" game.  They have spent a lot of time walking in the dorm working on leash etiquette, along with commands, such as:  "let's go", "release", "wait", "heel" and "hurry".  Her trainer can already tell that Jada is a smart girl and will do well with her training.

Jada is a small little girl, but on the yard where she is free of the leash, she is as fast as lightning.  She comes out of her shell.  She is no longer timid or shy.  She runs like she is a champion.  Her trainer is certain as the weeks progress that Jada will blossom into a confident, well trained, well adjusted retired racer.  Just you wait and see.

Jada is such a beautiful greyhound.  She has a sleek and very shiny black coat that shimmers in the sun.  You can't help but love her floppy ears!  This girl is sweet and loves to be loved on.  Her inmate trainer is looking forward to training Jada.
