Bundle Of Joy

Mya has been hanging out with her alternate trainer this past week to see how she acts and responds to taking commands from someone other than her primary trainer.  She did her commands with no problem.  Mya only whined first thing in the morning, wanting her breakfast.  If you say "shh" she quiets down and relaxes in her kennel until it's time to get up.   Mya has shown no signs of separation anxiety, which means she shouldn't have any problems being left alone in her crate when her forever family is at work or away from home.

Mya is a very fun and sweet greyhound.  She is well trained and aims to please.  She loves toys and can be energetic at times, but settles down easily.  Mya is super outgoing and friendly.  She will go up to anyone looking for attention and to get loved on.  This girl is food/treat motivated, so her training can be endless.

You will love and enjoy Mya.  She's a small, cute bundle of joy!  Good luck in your new home Mya!

Hello Forever Family

Mya completed her final testing this past weekend. She performed well and will be a greyt adoptable and obedient hound. Mya's extras have really come a long way. Her trainer's personal favorite is "shake". This one will be a good one to use for Meet and Greets or to show her off to family and friends that visit. She can extend a proper hand shake to all who meet this sweet girl. She also knows "leave it", "roll over", "paws up" and "hug".

Mya loves to "hug". To initiate her "hug" command have your arms spread out as if you are welcoming an actual hug. Mya will come in and nestle her head under your arm to be loved on in full submission. All your worries and cares are washed away by her awesome "hug". Who doesn't enjoy a daily dose of an affectionate hug?

Mya's trainer says she has been nothing short of a true and pure joy to work with. She's pleasantly active when you want her to be and just as calm when you're just relaxing with her.  Her beautiful fawn coat has been complemented on time and time again. Mya is a great and beautiful Greyhound and her new forever family is very lucky to adopt her.

Sweetest Greyhound Around!

This week Mya and her inmate trainer have been polishing up on her basic commands. She is doing great. She does them all without problems, but enjoys doing them for treats or toys. Mya's trainer cannot believe his time with her is almost up.  He is really going to miss his good friend. If only he could keep her...

Mya really loves to do her extra commands ("leave it", "shake", "roll-over", "paws up", "hug" and "speak"). Her two favorite extras are "roll-over" and "speak". And if you really want to get her tail wagging, just break out the mini marshmallows!  So to prepare for her arrival, buy some mini marshmallows and you will be instant friends.  Mya will not let you down.  She's the sweetest Greyhound around!

Your New Best Friend

Mya has been great this week.  Her alternate trainer performed "show and tell" this week with Mya and she did wonderful, as expected.  Mya learned a new command this week.  It's "speak".  She was a little reluctant at first, since she is is not very vocal, but she caught on and enjoyed learning a new trick.  She now knows a few extras, such as:  "hug", "roll over", "shake", "paws up" and now "speak".  She is such a sweet girl and loves any type of affection or attention.

Mya is a great Greyhound to have around.  She can be active, playful or just a couch potato.  Whatever your mood,  she's right there with you.  She really enjoys being around people and other dogs.  She's the complete package.  Truly man's best friend.

Little Miss Sunshine

Mya has been so much fun to work with. She is used to obeying commands from two different trainers and learns very well. Teaching her extra commands was a total breeze! Sometimes Mya gets distracted, but you can snap her out of it by giving her a few easy commands annd making sure she obeys them. That'll get her right back on track so she'll respond to you.

Mya is very playful and lovving. Her "hug" extra command really showcases just how affectionate this little gal is. She loves being petted and rubbed, and like all Greyhounds, she loves running. She has plenty of fun with toys and gets lost in the flow of playing sometimes - but in a good way. She is also very responsive when it comes to working for a playful reward.

Mya is a beautiful dog with a personality that will fit anywhere she goes - whoever gets to be on the receiving end of her hugs is one lucky duck.

Polishing Commands

Another week has passed and Miss Mya is doing great. This is the halfway point in the program for the Greyhounds, and during the halfway mark sometimes they will act like they forget how to do their basic commands. Mya is no exception! She has started to be a little bit of a diva. Some of the things she has tried to do is walk ahead on the leash, do halfway heels, and being slow to respond on some commands.

The reason her inmate trainer mentions this is because it happens almost every timeand he wanted to tell you how to fix the problem if it emerges when she reaches her new family. This is always fixable. All you have to do is stay constant with the commands. Don't settle for a half heel; make her do a real heel. While walking on the leash, change speeds at random times. Keep her on her toes. It won't take but a couple of days and the problem will be fixed. The main reason her inmate trainer is letting you know this is because Maya is so cute and sweet and when she looks at you with those adorable eyes, you won't want to correct her. Then, before you know it, she will be running the house.

As for her commands, she is doing very well with all of them. She especially loves the jump command. Her inmate trainer has also been working on extra commands such as hug, leave it, roll over, and he recently added shake. Her favorite extra command is rollover. She's still learning shake and her trainer is hoping by next week that she'll have it down.

Well that's it for now, so check back next week for more updates on the cutest Greyhound around!

Hugs For Everyone!

What a great week with Mya!  She is really coming out of her shell.  She is now realizing that she gets rewards for good behavior and doing her commands when asked.  This week her eagerness to learn has increased greatly and her response time to her commands has improved.  In fact she is doing so well with her basic commands that her inmate trainer has add an extra command.

Mya loves to give hugs and so far it's her favorite command.  The ladies from SCG came by this weekend and they got to see first hand how much Mya loves to give hugs.  She will melt your heart with just one hug!  Mya and her trainer got to display just how well she knows her basic commands in front of the ladies.  She did very well and her trainer was proud of her.

Next week Mya and her inmate trainer will polish up on her commands she's good at, and improve on her response time and distance of her "stay" command.  She's such a sweet and smart girl and he's so glad he has gotten this opportunity to train her. That's all for this week.  Tune in next week for updates on cute liltle Mya!

Jumping Pro

So much has happened this week with Mya that her trainer doesn't know where to start.  She is now "sitting" and "downing" on her own.  She is a little slow sometimes, but her trainer will work on that and he's confident she will have them mastered in no time.  She has greatly improved on all of her other basic commands.

Mya was introduced to the "jump" command this week.  It only took her one try and she was jumping up like a pro.  She was also introduced to stairs too, and did very well with them.  She didn't know what to make of them at first, but quickly overcame her fear and conquered them like a champ.

Toys are Mya's friend and her favorite one is a pink squeaky elephant.  She is very gentle while playing and responds well to the "give" and "leave it" commands.  Her trainer couldn't be more happy with her progress so far.  She's a sweetheart of a dog and will make some lucky family very happy.

Gimme a Hug!

Mya's inmate trainer has seen a lot of progress with this cutie this week! She has gotten much better at leash walking. She was pulling a lot while walking on a leash, so every time her trainer noticed her pulling ahead he'd stop and make her heel, so she picked up on heel pretty quickly, too. As for sit and down - well, they've been a little tougher. Mya really isn't motivated by treats, and when she sees a toy she loses focus. She is doing "down" but is a little slow about it. But she has started sitting all on her own! As a reward, her trainer gives her a really good petting.

Mya loves - and I mean, LOVES - petting and attention. She does this thing where when her trainer kneels down and opens his arms, she'll come in and bury her face in his chest or under his arm. He's tagged it as an extra command called "hug." He doesn't work on it very much because he's still waiting or her to master all of the basic commands before confusing her with any bonus ones. Mya is a very loving, sweet and playful Greyhound. He is looking forward to getting to know her for the remainder of the session. He knows she is going to make a great addition to some lucky family!

Ready to Love!

It's the start of another 10-week session for Second Chance Greyhound's here at Jenkin. This trainer was lucky enough to receive a beautiful light red female with the race name of Plumbers Fanny, which he says is the funniest name he's heard so far. After spending a little time with her he decided to name her Mya. She didn't seem to care about being in a new environment. She came right in with her tail wagging and did really well with bathing, clipping nails, and cleaning her ears. She is so full of energy and love that she walks right up to new people and give them a hug. By hug, he means that she puts her head on people waiting for some love. So far they've really just been working on leash walking. She has a lot of energy so her trainer is working on calming her down. And they've already made progress! Tune in next week for more updates on the sweet Mya.
