One Cool Dog

Chip’s Secondary trainer wanted to say what a great time he had helping to train Chip.  He is one of the smartest dogs in the dorm and has a great personality.  Joking around, his trainers say that he had to come pre-trained because of how easily he picked up everything that he was taught.

Chip likes everyone he meets, especially if they have a treat for him.  The coolest thing his Secondary trainer saw him do was throw his favorite pink monkey toy up in the air, spin around, then catch it again. At least if no one is around he can still play catch with himself.  His trainer said that Chip is hands down the coolest dog he has ever met and will make an amazing addition to his adoptive family.

Happy Go Lucky Attitude

Swap Week has come and gone!  Chip did great for his alternate inmate trainer!  His alternate trainer says that Chip is a very gentle guy who has a lot of love to give and his happy attitude has a way of rubbing off on you.  He did great responding to all his commands and even knows most all of them with hand signal AND verbal cues!

Chip’s alternate inmate trainer says that being with Chip this week was a true joy.  He hopes that Chip’s forever family loves him as much as they do in the training program!

Downtown Spin Boy

Hey everyone! This is Chip again, just here to check in with all of you and tell you how my week was. My training is going really well and I am working on mastering the commands that I know using the hand signals or the spoken command. I do really well with both and can’t wait to show off everything I can do for my new family!

Speaking of that, I can’t WAIT to meet you! We are going to have so much fun playing together and lounging around on the couch taking naps (sorry in advance if I drool on you!). In addition to all the stuff I already know how to do, I have learned how to shake, speak and can catch kibble and toys from the air! Shake doesn’t really make much sense to me; it must be the way human greet each other, but hey, it gets me a tasty treat and loved on so I’m not complaining! I will just have to teach them how to properly greet someone, greyhound style.

Something else I like to do is throw a toy up in the air and catch it again, and I might even add a spin in there if I am feeling festive! I hope you have a great week, and I can’t wait to meet you!

"Stay" Champ

This week Chip’s trainers are working to get his basic commands in tip top shape for graduation. He is a pro at the stay command. His trainer can tell him “stay”, walk around him with toys and treats and he will not move until given the release or here command. He is the same with the “bed” command.

Chip has learned a couple extra commands. Shake, which is Chip’s favorite command and “spin”. Chip is going to make your world spin in just a few weeks!

Sharing Is Caring

Chip here! This week I’m continuing to work on perfecting my commands and holding them for longer. Don’t these humans realize a dog’s clock runs quicker than theirs?

I really enjoy playing with toys, slinging them around and catching them in the air. I started sharing my toys with the other greyhounds. I didn't want to at first, but I learned the importance of sharing and now I will let anyone play with them. It was great chatting with you. See you soon!

Smooth and Sweet

Welcome back, Chip fans! This is week 5, the halfway mark of the training session. This week I did show-and-tell with my secondary trainer. That's where I get to go up in front of all of the trainers and show them what I can do with someone other than my primary trainer. I did well on all the commands that I've learned so far. This past Sunday, I did stair-climbing again for the second time. I did a lot better the second time going up and down the stairs. I love to perform all of my commands for treats! Since I've been doing so well perfecting my commands for you guys, I'm starting to learn some extras, like shake hands and spin. I can't wait to show you my new tricks!

Here's a little about me - I have a really shiny black coat, my fur is real slick, and I shed very little. When my trainer combs my hair, barely any fur comes off of me. I'm so laid-back and calm. I love to lie on the daybed and get my belly rubbed and just get loved on in general. Come back next week to find out more!

Monkeying Around

Welcome back, Chip fans! This is week 4 of my training session here at Second Chance Greyhounds Academy. This week I've been perfecting my commands for you. I started on my stair climbing. My first time going up and down the stairs wasn't that bad, especially since I had a little bit of help from my trainers. I will have it mastered in no time!

I also started learning how to sit this week and my trainer started with a special treat to lure me back on a bed to teach me how to do it. I can't wait to show you all that I can do. I've been doing so good with learning all of my commands for you, and I’m doing so good that my trainers have introduced me to some toys. I love toys so much! My favorite thing to do in the play room is take this pink monkey toy and shake it around in my mouth as fast as I can. The monkeys arms will swing everywhere, and my trainers think it's really funny. I've also started to learn the give command, and that's for when you need to ask me to give something up when I'm focused on playing with a ball or a toy. I will drop the toy and look up at you, so that you have a chance to pick the toy up (and hopefully throw it for me to play with again!). Well, that's all for this week, so check back next time for more!

Chip Will Light Up Your Life

Welcome back Chip Fans! This week I’ve been working hard on learning a few new commands, like here, stay and leave it. I really get excited when my trainer calls my name and says “here”. I stop everything I’m focused on and run to my trainer as fast as my long legs will take me.

Leave it was a tough one. I was in my kennel the other day and my trainer set a treat down in front of me and told me to “leave it’. I was thinking to myself that this was some kind of sick joke, but no. He really didn’t want me to have it. I wanted it soooo bad, but I didn’t take it. I waited a second, then rolled on my back and gave him my best puppy dog eyes. He just couldn’t resist and then he gave me the treat! Yeah, I’m just a big goof ball at heart. Shhh. Don’t tell anyone, but I love to cuddle too.

A Kisseroo for Chip

Welcome back, Chip fans! This is the second week of my training session and I've been working hard on my new commands. I started on some of the 13 commands that I have to learn here at Second Chance Greyhound Academy, starting with leash walking around the dorm and the yard. I've also been working on wait, coming out of the kennel and waiting at door so that you can check the room and go in first, as well as kennel which means I go in the kennel whenever I'm told to do so. I'm also learning release which is when I get to come out of the kennel. Bed is when I get to lie down. I'm learning heel, which means I come out of the kennel and go back and stand by your left side so you can hook up a leash for walks. I'm also learning hurry, which is for when I go outside to use the restroom - you can say the hurry command and I will find a spot to go! That's what I've been working on it since I've been here.

Here's a little bit about myself - I learn really fast, so I'm going to spend the time I have here to perfect all of my commands for you. I'm a really laid-back dog and I love attention and affection. I love to be kissed on the top of my head, too! Well, anyway, that's all for now. Come back next week for more updates about what I'm up to! Paws crossed I get more kisses ;).

Training's Going To Be A Breeze

Hi there! It’s Chip checking in with everyone. It’s been quite an experience so far here at Jenkins. I got off the truck and my trainer was waiting for me with a bag full of treats! All different kinds. I think I like the mini marshmallows the best. After enjoying some of those magnificent treats, they took me and gave me a bath. I enjoy taking baths. It’s very relaxing for me. I got my ears cleaned, check for fleas and ticks and got weighed.

The next day my trainer jumped in to training. I’m working on leash walking, “kennel” and “wait”. I’m starting to catch on pretty fast, so this training thing should be a breeze. I’ll take to you next week. Later, Chip.
