Flashy Fellow

Eli continues to be a wonderful house guest. He is sweet and affectionate. He loves to gives little kisses when he gets excited, which is usually mealtime or walkie-time or practice commands time. He enjoys walking and is always eager to get out but he seems to prefer to keep the walks fairly short, not that he causes any problems, he’s just not a high energy go getter. We sometimes take a path along a busy street and the loud street traffic doesn’t faze him at all. I adore his jaunty prancing gate that he has during our walks. He’s quite flashy. He did great with the 4th of July fireworks, not a worried peep out of him at all. He’s getting better with toys and now there are more out for his playing pleasure. If he starts to get destructive I can tell him in a stern voice to be gentle and he eases right up, like he knows he’ll lose privileges if he doesn’t. He is one smart cookie!

Toys!

Foster Eli 20200622.jpg

Eli has been in foster care for over a week and he is quite the charmer. He can get obsessed with squeaky toys, so he gets them rationed out to him. He does best with toys that are built to be “indestructible”. One of his favorites is the Cuz brand squeaky balls. He’ll self-entertain with that for as long as you can stand the noise. Another enchanting thing about him is his plethora of noises. He’s not vocal in the sense of barking or roo’ing, there is a little whining when he’s bored, but he has the best variety of moans, groans, and grunts I have ever heard. His voice is deep so some of his tones are human sounding, especially when he’s content. And the horse-like snorts are the best. It’s hilarious.

He does not get on the furniture and shiny floors are not a problem. Thunderstorms do not phase this easy-going guy. He is now kenneling routinely and still continues to be eager to complete his commands for treats. “Wait” at the door is improving but still needs a little more work. He sits for dinner and just about anything else when I ask him to wait. His leash manners are da’ bomb. Sometimes I have to check he’s still with me because he’s just chugging along next to me. He also responds well to the “leave-it” command for just about anything. He’s a very good boy.

Eli is the total package

Eli has been a fabulous house guest in the few days he’s been here. He has great manners and is johnny-on-the-spot with his commands. He is lovable, food motivated, and handsome. He’s good with stairs, kennels okay (sometimes he needs a little bribe but a few morsels of food tossed into the kennel has him entering it eagerly), and he seeks out affection. He loves to go-go-go and is enjoying his morning walks. We are working on waiting at the open door before leaving the house – he’s just eager to see what the walk will bring. His leash manners are wonderful, most of the time I forget he’s even there. He’s been friendly with people and dogs that we’ve met on our walks and everyone comments on his striking good looks as well as how friendly he is. This fellow is a total package kind of guy.

Oodles of Charisma

It is almost time to say goodbye to Eli.  His Secondary trainer has only had a few weeks to work with him but that is all it took to know he is a special dog.  He is a friendly, happy-go-lucky boy with an infectious personality and oodles of charisma.  Eli will fit in quickly at his forever home.

Eli did great on his final testing, passing all of his commands with flying colors.  This week will be spent reinforcing those commands, maybe even teaching him a new trick or two.

Eli’s Secondary trainer wants to wish you a Merry Christmas and get ready to start the New Year with a special new friend.

Mr. Popular

Swap Week has arrived!  This week Eli spent time with an alternate training team.  Eli’s alternate training team said that Eli is a complete 180 from Storm!  Eli’s an active guy vs Storm’s  retirement ready attitude.  His alternate inmate trainer says that Eli was a lot of fun to have around and did great with everything!  He loves to socialize and play and hasn’t met a stranger yet.  He was proficient with all of his commands and his social etiquette was greyt!

Eli’s alternate training said the family who gets Eli is going to be lucky to have this guy in their life.  He’s fun, smart, and loving!

Getting Down To Business

Greetings from Eli’s secondary inmate trainer!  He says that he’s new to Eli’s training team and has only spent a week with Eli, but can already tell that he is one truly wonderful boy!  He’s happy and full of life and curious about everything.  Eli’s one that you can’t help but fall in love with.  His new inmate trainer says that Eli reminds him of Scooby Doo and all they need is a van and a few friends so they can go around investigating everything!

Now, Eli has a serious side too.  When it’s time to work on his commands he’s all in and preforms like a pro.  Eli’s the kinda guy who likes to have contact with his human.  If you’re walking he likes to lean on you a little.  His secondary trainer says that he can tell that working with Eli is going to be a real treat!

Fun Loving Eli

Eli is doing great! He has all his commands down pat and does good with his leash walking. Eli is a favorite among the inmates and staff. His fun loving nature is adored by everyone. He has mastered all his basic commands with the exception of “stay”. He knows it, but just isn’t as quick to respond as his trainers would like, so they will work extra hard to have it perfected by graduation.

This boy is crazy about toys, running and having a good time, but is very calm when on a leash outside. He’s a sweet boy and his trainer is enjoying his time with Eli. He can’t believe it’s week 7 already. Where did the time go?

I'm Cute!!

Hi Guys! Eli here! I’m really, REALLY enjoying my stay here at Second Chance Greyhounds Academy. This week we played with a bunch of different toys and I have found out I love the weird squeaky sounding ones. I love to toss them around and bite on them to make the squeak, squeak, squeak. I also made a new friend, Olivia. I even share my toys with her. I think she likes me.

I can’t wait for “show and tail” this week, so I can show off what I know. I have pretty much mastered my commands, so I’m fine tuning them, so I can impress my forever family. It won’t be long now.

The Most Loving Boy

Eli is coming along exceptionally well in his training. He did wonderfully at “show-your-tail” this week, performing his commands smoothly and correctly. In fact, he has become quite proficient at doing his commands in general! Eli loves to play with toys, perhaps a little too much... so his trainer has been working on the give command this week to make sure he knows how to respond when you need him to let go of something.

Overall, Eli's doing great - he came here happy, and he is still happy and loving. Out of the six dogs that his primary trainer has worked with, he is without a doubt the most loving of them all.

Can't Help But Love Him

Eli had a wonderful week! He learned how to jump and he learned the down command. He now has a working knowledge of all 13 basic commands. There are still a few things to sort out and fine-tune, like him following his trainer’s hand, because he thinks that he's holding treats in it all the time! However, practice will make him more proficient at all of these commands.

Eli shows love to everyone and enjoys running with the other dogs, as well as chasing toys in the training room. It's been very chilly in the mornings lately, so Eli has been wearing his coat. The first few times that his trainer put it on him, he ran around in circles for the first minute or so getting used to it. He is a very curious pup and such a wonderful dog. His trainer loves him, and you will, too!

Handsome Boy!

Eli’s inmate trainer says that Eli is doing great.  His commands are coming right along.  They’ll continue working on faster response times and yummy treats.

Eli likes to watch TV.  While watching TV this week a Petco commercial came on showing a dog and Eli jumped up excited and happy.  His inmate trainer says that they all got a good laugh out of Eli’s reaction.

Gentleman on a Leash

Eli and his trainer have had a great week! They worked on a few commands like kennel, wait, leave it, heel and sit. With each of these commands, Eli seems to be progressing well. He and his trainer have spent most of their time working on leash walking and he has become an utter gentleman on a leash. The first time he tried to get Eli to sit should have been taped! At first he tried to lure Eli into a sit, but his front feet would stay on the floor. So he tried scooping him, which worked, until he gave the release command, then Eli I jumped up and began spinning! Then he bounced into his trainers arms as if to say, “that was fun, let's do it again!” You’ll have no shortage of entertainment with Eli around.

Friendly Guy

Eli came off the truck with his brother, tail wagging. He is a very happy dog and loves to be petted. This first week is all about forming a bond with their dog, so for the first couple of days Eli gets hand fed. By the way, he is a very good eater.

Eli got to walk around and check things out in the dorm where he will be spending the next ten weeks. He is walking well on a leash, but can use some work. Eli is a very smart, loving, friendly dog and his trainer is proud to have the chance to work with him. In ten weeks, Eli is going to make some family very happy. Could it be you?
