Your new best friend

Now, don't get me wrong here - but to tell the truth, Harley's trainer is glad it's about time for the new class of greyhounds to come in, because the longer he spends time with Harley, the harder it's going to be to give up this sweet guy. He is such a pleasure to work with and love and be loved by. You can teach him ANYTHING, and he doesn't mind putting in the work to learn new things. He is a healthy, sweet dog who enjoys lots of different kinds of activities. He is going to make such a great friend!

Calm, Cool, Collected and Cute

It was yet another great week with Harley. He is such a great dog - so laid-back and nonchalant, he is just cool with whatever. Little Mister Harley enjoyed his bath this week.  He didn't even have to have his collar on for the bath! He was just that calm.   He's doing great with his training and his primary trainer can't wait to see how swap week goes.  He knows Harley will be wonderful, as always.

Big Handsome!

During swap week, Harley and his trainer enjoyed each other's company so much. He is always attentive and excited, full of joy and always anxious to interact with you. The thing his trainer enjoyed most about this big handsome guy is the relationship he developed over the week with him. Before swap week, his swap week trainer would always see him interacting with his primary trainer and admire him from afar. But then he got a chance to be his trainer! And that's a week that won't be soon forgotten. Harley is such a sweet, memorable, handsome dog and an absolute delight to love. And soon you'll get to love him in person!

Gimme A Little "Kiss"

Another successful week has come and gone for Harley!  His inmate trainer says that Harley is so smart and friendly!  He knows all of his commands with verbal and hand signal cues.  The only command that he’s not so crazy about is “jump”.  They have been working on helping him gain confidence with this request.  He does really well if he gets a running start, but he’s not crazy about jumping from a stand still.

They worked on a few extra commands (bow, speak, and kiss) this week and Harley already knows them really well.  He’s still not showing any real interest in toys but does enjoy playing with some of the other Greyhounds in the yard.  He will play with the ball by chasing it, but has no interest in returning it to you.

His inmate trainer says that they are going to hate to see Harley go.  He’s a sweet and loving gentle giant who is going to be a blessing to his new forever family.

Good Boy Slim

Hello, Harley's trainer here! I have got to say that this boy is a great dog. He has a wonderful, shining personality and goes right along with whatever you have for him. If you're relaxing, he is too. If you are excited and bubbly, he is too (but still gentle!). Harley would get along great with kids because he is so gentle. Even when playing "rough," he is still so gentle. Harley is a great example of a big baby and for the most part he is just a baby. He's only one year old! He'll be two in July (and his namesake, the musician Fat Boy Slim, will be 65 in July!).

Harley is very smart and he has learned all of his commands so easily. He performs them well, too! He is just a guy looking for his forever family and some lifelong friends who he can make him happy for years to come.

You're the man, Harley!

Week 5 already! What an awesome week for Harley!  His trainer is SO proud of him this week. During show and tell, he decided to just do hand signals for Harley and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. He did all of his commands on the first or second try!  He has also improved at sitting and downing faster, as well as "bedding" faster. He knows all of his commands and just needs a little more work going up and down stairs. He will continue working diligently on his commands with his trainer so that he stays show ready! He's going to be spending some quality time with the stairs, too, and hopefully learning that not only is the floor not lava, the stairs are also not lava.

Harley is more of an indoor dog than most greyhounds. He did run back-to-back days with some of his greyhound pals this week, and showed a playful side that he hadn't revealed. He was in a bowed position looking up at his trainer, then he would spin in circles and bark. It was so funny and exciting at the same time to see Harley opening up like that!

Harley is an awesome greyhound, and a VERY cute boy. He is an excellent greyhound to have if you haven't taken the plunge and become addicted to cuddling these sweet former racers. Look no further if you are looking for a charmer, because Harley is your man.

Mr. Cool!

Another successful week for Harley!  He did his first “jump”!  The first few attempts he didn’t want anything to do with this new command, but after several encouraging tries he took the leap!   A little more work will have him confident and jumping like a master!

His inmate trainer worked with him on the stairs and Harley did great!  He was a little hesitant at first, but ended up following his trainer up and down like Mr. Cool!  Harley is doing really well with all his commands.  He’s a little slow responding to “bed,” “sit,” and “down” but with continued practice he’ll have these figured in no time.

Sweet Gentle Boy

Week 3 was a great success for Mr. Harley! He did his first sit! He also did his first down. He catches on so quickly! Sitting and downing is hard for greyhounds because they are shaped like sweet long noodles (be sure to check out the pics on the website - you can see their butts don't even touch the ground when they're doing a sit sometimes because of their long legs!).

Harley has been working on all of his commands except for jump and off, because those two have yet to be introduced. He'll start those next week and he's gonna do GREAT!

Harley also got to go up and down stairs for the first time, but he needs a little more practice. Imagine having long legs like that without knees for suspension like us humans have - wow! Harley needed some assistance going up but he did better coming down, so half the battle is won. He is gonna keep working hard on those stairs! Practice makes permanent, after all.

Harley has started to show interest in toys - before he would turn away from them and show no interest, but now he is showing some! He even nibbled at a squeaky toy. With a little more time and exposure, he should come around and be the biggest squeaky toy fan in the world.

Harley doesn't run all that much and is a little nervous around loud noises and tons of people at once, but he is getting used to it. He is such a good greyhound, the cutest and sweetest boy. He is so adorable! He is going to make such an excellent companion to some lucky family - what about yours? ;)

Lots Of Love To Give

Another week gone, and it was successful for Harley!  He is such a young handsome boy that will have heads turning!  He is a little shy at first, but is starting to open up and come out of his shell each and every day.

This week his trainers worked on "sit"  Harley is very close to sitting on his own.  A few more days and he should have it.  This week they worked on "bed", "release", "heel", "wait", "hurry", "let's go" and "kennel".

Harley is not a big runner.  He sprints a time or two and then he's done.  He has shown no interest in toys yet.  Harley is a wonderful boy and becoming his trainer's favorite greyhound that he's trained.  Harley has a ton of love to give.  Are you going to be the lucky one to receive it?

What a catch!

Ah, good ole Week 1. We have a 73-pound black and white greyhound named Harley in the mix. Harley is a little nervous at the prison, with all the new sights, sounds and smells.  So different from the track life he was used to. He's in a brand new environment! A whole new world. He is such a calm and cool dog. For a dog of his size and stature, he is incredibly laid back. He has such beautiful markings and a big black spot in the middle of his rib cage. He is such a gorgeous greyhound - a must see!

Since Harley has arrived, he has begun working on some of his commands. He has worked on "wait" before coming out of the kennel, followed by "release." Harley also waits going in and out of any door, followed by "let's go!" Also, he has worked on learning his name, hurry, and heel. Coming up next week he will work on sit and down. Harley hasn't shown any interest in toys yet, but it's still early.

Harley is a real gentle giant, and very cute. So if you are interested and like what you see, then you are just a few clicks away from adopting this handsome boy! And in just 9 weeks, you can pick up Harley and bring home a companion for life. Stay tuned these next 9 weeks for more updates on Harley. Hurry, or this great guy may soon be spoken for!
