Home Life

Cabo is doing exceptionally well in the house. He hasn't had any more accidents in the house or any of my friends houses that we've visited. Yea! (he really catches on quickly)

He loves to get out. He's quite the social butterfly and is very friendly with all we meet. He's cautious with resident cat, which is good because she doesn't hesitate to let him know if he's annoyed her. He's done beautifully with the small dogs that we've met.

He has settled in quickly, does his commands easily, and is lovey-dovey. This sweet boy is beyond awesome!

Learning about home life

Cabo is doing great! He ignores the kitty, which is what I like to see, and he’s settling in nicely. He gets along great with his greyhound foster brother & sister. So far his leash manners are above reproach, even when there are squirrels present! He knows his commands but is sticking to his “you gotta gimme something good” to do them. Once he relaxes & gets used to being in a home he will get better about doing them without treats.

I took him to have a bath at a groomers & the groomer said he was one of the nicest dogs she’d ever had the priveledge of bathing! She probably says that about all the pretty boys…

Cabo is still trying to figure out the house training. He’s catching on to “wanna go out?” & I don’t think we’ve had any inside “accidents” in a while. He took an early morning stroll with me (3 miles) and walked it easily. No problems with the passing cars. Got stairs? No problems with that! He's got them down (& up).

He’s a gem!

Raider Budge has been such a great joy this last week. He's been practicing commands and has done a good job, including doing well with his stay in a down/bed position. This boy is a warm, gentle spirit and is shared between two dorms - everyone in both his "homes" loves him greatly. He has been the orientation dog at the prison for the last 8 weeks, greeting all the new inmates while they are being told about the dog programs. He's very well known and loved by many. Raider Budge plays well and has recently become excited about balls! His handlers say his lucky new forever family will have a one in a million with this big, lovable boy!

7/14/13

Raider Budge loves to hang about with absolutely anybody who will pet him. He will sit next to you until you are done and will move on to be petted by the next person! He's not afraid and there are many people around the compound who know him as he's visited everywhere. His favorite spots are the greenhouse and canteen. This energetic boy gets plenty of exercise between his two handlers and really benefits from his long walks. He does all his commands with ease and just his sit/stay needs work. He handles the steps/stairs wonderfully.  Raider Budge loves to please and easily learns new tricks.

7/7/13

Raider Budge has the most gentle, loving spirit. He was introduced to a female poodle this week (up close) and the two of them shared a snack while they were in the down/stay command. Raider did great. Even when Ms Poodle spat out her food, he didn't try to grab it! This boy loves people and is very gentle when visiting with the elder inmates. Raider loves to walk and will even carry a toy along, inside or outside on his walk. He also trotted well with his handler, keeping to the correct side when she tried jogging with him. He does all his commands plus "show me your belly" and "shake," and his visit and lap commands are coming along well. He's such a willing, eager-to-please boy and a joy to train.

6/30/13

Raider Budge loves to play and will voice his opinion if he's on the sidelines and other dogs are playing! He's shown no sign of aggression towards any people or greys or other dogs. Inmates and officers approach him regularly through the day and he does great with them. This boy will lean in as long as he gets petted and scratched. He's getting plenty of exercise with his two handlers and has mastered all his basic commands as well as showing progress with the newer visit and lap commands. His down/stay is better than his sit/stay but he can do both. His handlers say he's wonderful.

6/23/13

Raider Budge is a social butterfly. He loves everyone and walks around the dorm with other inmates and officers. He also spends time in the day room watching TV with inmates. Want him to curl up and read a book with you? Just call him over! This boy loves to play. He loves a particular yellow squeaky football and will even carry it along on his walks. When he first discovered what toys were, he would bring them all back to his bed area (he's a hoarder). Now he just seems to grab a favorite and run toward the kennel with it! What a smart guy he is! He is so quick to learn and wants to please. He's learning "visit" (head in lap) and "paws up/paws off" (paws on lap). He's quick to "show me the belly" when asked and even when not asked - having his tummy rubbed is one of hs favorite rewards. This boy's eyes will get you and you will be hooked. Then the added tail wagging or the gentle lean into you - it's as if he's giving you a hug. He's irresistable.

6/16/13

At this point, Raider Budge knows all his commands: sit, down, down/stay, sit/stay (a little bit slower on this one,), here, heel, shake, bed, stairs, wait and kennel. He's been a wonderful dog to work with and his handler was so proud when he demonstrated a steady down/stay while the assessor walked around, over and past him. Due to his joint handlers' work schedules, he gets plenty of exercise, walking around the track, jogging a few laps, or just being allowed to roam free off leash. He loves it all. His reward is time spent in the kiddie pool; this boy enjoys the water. Raider Budge is very easy going and gets along with everyone and all the dogs. He loves to interact with people and will lean in for a good head and neck scratch.

6/9/13

Raider Budge greets everyone happily and doesn't shy away from anybody. He'll do his commands for others, as well. He's a gentle soul and very trusting. He does fine around all the other dogs. However, he's shown an interest in the birds that get on the field and looks at them as if to ask what are you doing there?! Raider Budge is a beautiful hound and has somewhat longer hair than most of the other greys. His handler brushes him regularly. This boy goes outside often and is a real water baby - he loves the kiddie pool very much. He's a joy to work with on his training, always eager to please. This week his handlers have been reinforcing the stay command (at ten feet); he's caught on quickly and is excelling. He's beginning to learn about toys and enjoys his playtime as well. This dear hound puts a smile on his handlers' faces every day. They enjoy working with him and also cuddling with him.

6/2/13

In the short time he's been at the prison, Raider Budge has done well. This boy enjoys exploring the compound on his walks and going into new areas.  Then, after a walk, he really likes to cool down in the kiddie pool. He's made excellent progress in his training. His waits are fabulous and he's becoming proficient in most commands, with just stay and here needing a little more work. He walks on leash without pulling and does great on stairs. Raider gets along fine with all the greyhounds, other dogs and pups he's encountered at the compound. And he loves people.

5/26/13

Raider Budge has had a great week. He's doing really well on his training and has learned to sit not only for his handlers but also for other dorm residents. He's such a fast learner. He does a great wait at doors and will not move until his handler tells him OK, let's go. His wait in other areas still needs more work, however. This laid back, happy boy loves everyone he meets. He'll go up to people and stand politely while they pet him. Raider loves his neck being scratched (both sides) and will lean into any scratches or rubs given. He also enjoys a tummy rub! Walking is not one of his most favorite activities. He'll walk politely on a loose leash but will begin lagging behind after the first lap. He thinks once he's done his business that he is done. He does manage the ramps and stairs very well. This is a very easy going boy with an even keel temperament. He has taken his retirement seriously and loves to lay at your feet or snuggle up to you on the floor. If you stop, he actually paws at the air for more.
