Playful Polly

Hello everyone! It's week ten, the final week that Polly will be in training. Her trainer is going to miss her so much. She has been such a sweetheart and so fun to train. Just so you know, she passed her final exam with flying colors! She's laying on her day bed just relaxing with her head on her trainer's foot. She is SO adorable. When it comes to play time. she is all about it, literally all over the place! She plays well with the other dogs here. This wonderful girl is going to make your millenium!

Baby Doll

What an exceptional week with Polly during swap week!  This girl knows all of her basic commands and loves to train.  Polly had no problem acclimating to all the new things thrown her way during swap week. She's a baby doll and loves to get lots of attention.

She is the most lovable dog this trainer has ever had the pleasure of spending time with.  She's the cutest, little greyhound around and you are going to LOVE her!  Polly is going to love you too.

Right On Track

This week as show and tell, her trainers had her go through her commands without treats, to see just how well she knows them.  Polly did great. She, of course, knew all of her commands and did them without treats.  She got lots of praise in place of the food treats.

Swap week is upon us.  This is where Polly goes to live in another kennel and be with another trainer.  They will see how she does doing her commands and see if she has any separation anxiety being away from her primary trainer.  This is all in preparation for the big move to their permanent home in just a few more weeks, which will be here before you know it.

Precious Polly

Little Miss Polly had a pretty calm week.  She didn't work on any new commands this week so she spent her training time polishing the basics. She knows them all, but it's always good to go over them as much as you can at least once a day. Practice makes permanent!

Polly enjoys her playtime after training.  She perks up at the sight of her "wubba".  Playing with her wubba is by far her favorite thing to do. Her trainer actually uses it as a training tool - she has to sit and be calm in order to get the precious talisman! Her trainer tosses it around like a game of fetch. She gives the toy up easily if you use the command "give," which is a VERY useful command to have in your repertoire.

Well, she's all perked up right now and ready for some play time again!  I guess it's time to go clown around with Polly and Wubba. Time for some fun! Until next week, Polly and her trainer signing out.

Petite and Sweet

Hello, fans of Polly! We all hope you have had a wonderful week; I know Polly and her trainer have! She's such a wonderful girl, whether it's play time or relaxing time. She listens well and responds to her commands with good timing. She is the smallest dog her trainer has ever worked with, but what she lacks in size she makes up for in intelligence and cunning! As her trainer wrote his entry this week, she was watching him with those radiant eyes of hers. Get a load of those peepers!

She did excellent during show and tell.  This is where they take the dogs and run through all thirteen commands in front of everyone and score them on their ability to listen and respond to each command. She scored super well this week!

Polly is such a sweetheart who loves to be petted - and have some squeaky toys ready when you bring her home, because she LOVES to clown with the squeaky buddies!

Toys! Toys! Toys!

Polly’s inmate trainer says that it’ s hard to believe that this training session is already at the halfway point.  He says that she’s a smart girl who knows all of her commands.  Last week they worked on doing all of Polly’s commands perfectly in one session.  She has successfully put everything together!  Moving forward they will work on keeping her skills fresh.  Her inmate trainer plans to add a few extras to the list in the coming days.  She’s really good at spinning and howling  so her trainer is thinking about marking those as extras.

Guess what?!  Polly has discovered toys!  She’s fallen in love with an octopus with a squeaker body.  Her ears perk up and her usually calm tail wags ninety miles per hour!  She loves to run around the training room with her toy gleefully happy.

Gentle and Lovable

It's already week four! Time is flying and Polly and her trainer are having fun. Polly has done all of her commands perfectly at least once, which is awesome. Now he just needs to get her to do them perfectly every time! Her secondary trainer has also begun working with Polly, working on commands and also bonding with her. Things are going really well with her secondary trainer.

Lately, her trainer has been playing with her using toys and seeing how she responds. Short answer: very well! She loves squeaky toys and chew toys, but you can safely take the toy away with a "give" command, without any problem. She's such a sweetheart though, she'll give the toy up with just a hand signal!

Polly also worked on stairs again this past weekend and there were no problems there. Up and down with only slight hesitation on the down part; slow and steady, no jumping, and a nice treat to top it all off. The main thing is that there's improvement - the treats help overcome the hesitation toward the end, and she learns and improves with each session. Polly is an absolute dream to work with and so lovable that you just wanna pet her all day!

Top Tier Pup

Polly has adjusted so well to her new surroundings and routine. She's starting to show signs that she's feeling comfortable around everybody, which is good this early in the program. That little squirrel tail of hers is not tucked in like it was at the beginning. It's out and it's proud, and that is a sure sign of her relaxing.

Training is going well, too! She's very smart and picks up things quickly. She was already doing a perfect down when she arrived, so he simply tagged it and taught her to do it on command. Other things like stay, here, heel and wait were a piece of cake for her and she already looks like a seasoned pro. Sits are not her favorite (not uncommon for greyhounds) but she and her trainer are working diligently on it. She even did stairs last week with no problems!

Polly will make a great friend and superb companion in any situation. She is gentle, smart, demure, and just so darn cute! Look at that tongue hanging out in her profile picture. Now that is one happy pup. Don't let the gray hairs fool you! She's got a lot of spunk and she's only three years old - think of all the years of loving and fun you could share with this little cutie! And I mean little - she's only 54 pounds! Greyhounds are already great apartment dogs, and she would be a top-tier apartment dog. Just curled up like a little croissant on her day bed, then bounding up to greet you with love when you get home from work. She loves to run, but she gets tired quickly. She loves toys and chew bones, but mostly she just loves laying around and relaxing. And did I mention how cute she is?!

Little Miss Polly

Things are moving fast with Miss Polly! She is a quick learner, already doing down and stay, and mostly doing excellent heels and waits. Sits, not so much, but those are tricky for greyhounds. They're not her favorite, but she is working diligently on mastering it. She'll sit beautifully in the kennel!  All in all, her trainer is very impressed with her progress. And she's so darn cute! She should be scooped up immediately!

Her trainer is already in love with this dog. She is so sweet and lovable, and it's going to be hard to let her go. She is the smallest one in her class, further enhancing the cuteness.

The weather is getting nicer and the dogs get to go outside more, which is great. Spring in this part of the world is the best, and to be able to walk a dog in the green grass and blooming flowers is a sweet taste of home for many of the trainers. For Polly's trainer, it's what this program is all about... a second chance...

Cute As A Button

Polly’s inmate trainer says that Polly is as cute as a button!  She’s bright eyed and full of curiosity.  She’s settling in to her new digs rather nicely.  She’s been doing a lot of leash walking and working on the “wait” command.  The “wait” command is given at every doorway.   They are also working on “let’s go” and “kennel” which are coming along well.

Polly’s inmate trainer says that he’s looking forward to the days ahead and can’t wait to see more of Polly’s personality emerge and watch her grown and learn.
