Wonderful Boy!

What a wonderful dog Apollo is!  He had a great week and passed his final exam with flying colors.  Apollo has learned so much in the short time he has been at the prison, and has also taught his trainer a lot too.  He is going to miss him dearly.

Apollo is an easy going greyhound that is going to be a great addition to his adoptive family.  He is eager to show you what all he has learned.  He knows a list of commands and extras:  "Hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "heel", "here", "sit", "down", "stay", "bed", "jump", "leave it", "bow", "shake", "give" and "speak".  This list seems to go on and on for this smart and handsome boy.

Apollo is a very happy boy, whether he's in his kennel or on a dog bed watching tv.  He has never had a bad day.  The life of a dog is truly the life to have.  Enjoy Apollo.  He will keep you entertained.

Always Happy

The week for swapping the dogs has arrived.  The inmate trainers swap dogs to work on training commands from new people and to give them time away from their primary trainers.  Apollo handled the swap like a champ!  His alternate inmate trainer says that Apollo always has a sunny outlook on life.  He’s happy to play with toys or just hang out relaxing.

Apollo has his favorite people in the dorm.  When he sees one of his favorites he gets bouncy and wags his tail till you’d swear it’s about to fall off.  If that fails to the get attention of one of his favorites he’ll give a friendly bark of heelllooo.  His alternate trainer says that it’s highly amusing.  In just one short week Apollo stole his alternate trainer’s heart.

He'll steal yours too!

Happiness Is A Smile Away

It’s official; Apollo gets more loving every day.  His inmate trainer says that in the morning Apollo starts his day off with a happy dance and you can’t help but smile at that.

This week was mid-term testing and Apollo passed with no problems!  He loves doing his commands for whomever makes a request.   He also learned the “speak” command this week.   His inmate trainer says that when he gives the command Apollo drops into the down position and speaks a polite bark as requested.

Apollo’s inmate trainer says that it’s hard to see this training session winding down.  He’s going to miss sweet Apollo when he leaves and hopes that he finds a truly wonderful home.

Showing Off Progress

Apollo’s inmate trainer is proud to report that Apollo preformed every command on the first try without hesitation for the SCG progress check this week!  He says that Apollo loves to learn and please whomever he is working with.  He’s a happy energetic boy who calms easily on command.

This week his inmate trainer has introduced the “speak” and “kiss” commands.  His trainer plans to add an assortment of tricks in the coming weeks.  He’ll have a lot of fun stuff to show off to his forever family!

Happy and Content

Another great week in the books for Apollo!  His inmate trainer says that he’s never met a dog so happy and content all day every day.  It doesn’t matter if he’s just chillin in his kennel or out and about with the other dogs and people.  His trainer says that Apollo does this little happy dance every time he greets someone.  It doesn’t matter if he’s just played with that person a few hours before he’s still dancing with happiness to see them!

Apollo calms easily with the “heel” or “leave it” command.  He’s actually doing great with all his commands.  His inmate trainer is slowly introducing extras every week.  He loves to learn and learns best with short training sessions of 15 mins or less 5 or 6 times a day.  He loves chasing toys and doesn’t mind sharing with the other dogs and humans!

Loves To Learn New Tricks

Wow!  Can you believe it is week five already? Apollo is not the same dog that walked into the prison just a short time ago.  He is such a great dog and loves everyone.  His tail gets to wagging and he hops around with excitement with every new person he meets.  He's not a shy guy anymore.

Apollo sometimes doesn't like the male dogs to approach his kennel while he's laying in it.  His trainer corrects him every time, and he is doing much better.  His trainer says he has no problems with giving up his toys or sharing his food.

Apollo knows all his basic commands, so his inmate trainer is now working on extras.  He is learning "kiss".  This is where he touches his nose to your cheek.  He is also learning "shake" and "bow".  He also loves to play fetch.  He will bring the toy back and "drop" it at his trainer's feet.  Apollo loves to learn new tricks.  I wonder what he will learn next...

Fun, Loving and Loyal

Apollo spent the week with his trainer sharpening up on all of his basic commands, and he's doing very well. He is very attentive and obedient when it comes to his training.  His inmate trainer has also trained him to eat his meals outside the kennel in the down position with the bowl between his front paws.  He has no problems with anyone coming up to him while eating.

Apollo is also learning to share his toys and his bed with the other dogs.  He sometimes doesn't like to share, but is learning sharing is a good thing.

Apollo is such a fun loving greyhound.  He is very loyal and will make an awesome pet to some lucky family that adopts him.

Happy And Friendly

What a great week it has been for Apollo!  He is really getting his basic commands down pat.  He knows all of the basic commands with a verbal cue and most with hand signals.  His biggest accomplishment is that he will "stay" in the "sit", "down" or standing position while his inmate trainer leaves his sight and returns.

Apollo also practiced on the stairs this week for the first time and he did very well going up and down without any difficulty.  He's the stair master.  His inmate trainer has also been working with Apollo to "sit", "down" and "stay" before he is allowed to eat.  He is doing so much better.

He loves to fetch toys and will bring them right back to his trainer without any problems. Apollo is always happy and friendly meeting and greeting with everyone. He has lots of energy, but also calms very easily.  He will be an excellent pet for any dog lover out there.  Could it be you?

A Complete Turn Around

Apollo lived up to his race name last week coming to the prison, but he has almost done a 180.  is really coming out of his shell.  He is very comfortable around other people and the dogs. This week the inmates had a puppy visit them.  Apollo did very well around him.

Apollo is progressing nicely with his basic commands.  He knows "hurry and let's go" well and needs more work on "kennel", "release", "wait", "heel", "here", "sit", "bed", "down", "stay", but his inmate trainer has faith that Apollo will have these figured out soon.

He loves to run on the big yard, galloping and chasing the other dogs.  When his inmate trainer calls him from across the yard, Apollo barrels toward him, runs just past him, and then walks up to him, tail wagging and bobbing his head with joy.  He will keep walking with his inmate trainer until he says "go get em".  Then he is off and running again.

Apollo is very happy and eager to please.  His inmate trainer knows he will be a wonderful addition to anyone's family.

Apollo - "God Of The Sun"

PJ's Shy Guy was very fitting race name for this boy, now being called Apollo.  He was very shy about everything when he came to the prison.  He refused to walk on the shiny concrete floors and his inmate trainer had to carry him to his kennel.  Once he was in his kennel he was very reluctant to come out, but after 3 days and a lot of patience and encouragement, he comes right out of his kennel and walks with his head held high on all the floors.  Yay for Apollo!

Apollo is a very happy dog and loves to please.  He's very obedient and takes direction well.  He gets along with all of the other dogs and shows no signs of food or toy aggression.  He is slowly picking up on the basic commands, but there's plenty of time to learn them.

He loves running with all the dogs during exercise time.  He is super friendly and loving.  Apollo means "God of the Sun", and he will certainly be a bright, shining light in his new adopters life.
