One-of-a-Kind

It is the 10th week of training for Jack and it sure has been fun. He has come a long way since he first came in. Over the weeks, his trainer has come to realize that he has a few things that make him different from the other dogs. He rarely barks, which is sort of unique. He plays well with other dogs, even though he can be a bit of a toy hog. He doesn't try to lick or jump on strangers. And strangest of all, loud noises don't seem to faze him whatsoever. His training team knows that you are going to enjoy his presence in your life as much as they have. He is a great dog with a wonderful personality. His training team hopes that he brings you as much happiness in your life as he has in theirs and more!

Flying Colors

One lucky team had the delight of taking care of Jack this week for swap week. For those that don't know, swap week is the time to get the dogs ready for the big change when they go to their forever homes. They do this by having them go through a little change in their environment and routine for one week and spend a week with a different trainer. If there are any separation anxiety issues, they can work them out now so that the next move to you will be easier. Jack sailed through swap week with flying colors.

Jack and his swap week trainer’s primary dog Barney are very similar in temperament and behavior, so things went very smoothly. They had such a fun week! Jack did all of his commands and walked great on a leash; he is such a laid-back dog. His swap week trainer said he couldn't have asked for a better swap week. Jack's primary trainer did a wonderful job with him! Swap week is necessary and helpful, but his swap week trainer will be glad to get his boy Barney back for the final weeks of the session. Graduation is so close!

My Main Man

Dear Future Adopter,

It is week 8 of training the amazingly sweet Jack. His true colors are starting to show and he is letting everyone see how happy he can get – especially at feeding time! He will come out of his kennel, heel, then get in the sit position with the biggest smile on his face, ready to eat. His trainer really loves how calm he is around strangers. He doesn’t try to jump on them or get too excited.

He is so smart, too! He catches on to new commands pretty quickly. His trainer thinks his favorite command would be the down command, because he’s constantly doing it even unprompted. It’s pretty funny when he does because he looks up at you like ‘where’s my treat for this?’ It’s so adorable! As time passes, he shows more and more of what a good family dog he will be.

Toss Me A Toy

It’s hard to believe that training will be over in a few short weeks!  Jack’s ready, with full knowledge of all of his commands.  His inmate trainer has been working on distance and duration with each command.  They started working on “kiss” and “shake” this week.  Next week he plans to add “spin” to the list for Jack.

Jack has been enjoying running in the big yard this week.  He loves to play with toys especially if you toss them up so he can stand up and catch it.

Boys Just Wanna Have Fun

Jack’s secondary trainer here to tell you about his week. Let me first state how much he has turned around in his few weeks of this program. Jack started off real shy and out of place, but he has adapted very well. I take him out for his daily dog runs/walks and he listens superbly. He loves the outdoors. You can tell as soon as he sees the grass that it excites him. You can see the joy in his eyes and ears.

I run through his basic commands and he does very well. Jack has a great recall. When I do the “here” command he responds so fast and looks so happy running to me.

Jack’s play time is the best. He doesn’t go nuts, but he loves to have fun. He is going to be great dog for some lucky family. He loves to lay in his bed and relax, but when its time to go or play, he’s all game. I hope he brings a lot of joy and happiness to your life as he has for me. Thank you for allowing me to work with Jack!

Fetch Anyone?

Another week has flown by with Jack!  He’s done really well with his commands at Show and Tell.  They’ve been working on “sit” which has been the hardest command for him so far. They continue to keep up with all the other commands to keep him sharp.

Jack has really opened up and shown his personality. He’s full of love with a dash of stubbornness.  He enjoys being out of his kennel and for any reason.  His favorite, by far, is going out with his grey pals and playing in the yard.  He loves to chase toys then bring them back for you to throw again.

"Jump"

Hey! It’s Jack doing the update for you. This week was a blast. I got to show off how fast I was. They need to start calling me Jack Flash!

This week I was shown stairs for the first time. I think I did pretty good for a first timer. I also leaned to “jump”. I think this one is my favorite. I hear it’s good to know, so when my forever family wants to go for a ride, they can take me with them. I’lll jump right in.

I played with toys this week and man are they fun! I’m working on being a perfect gentleman and “giving” my trainer the toy when asked. I’m not sure why he wants the slobbery thing, but I oblige. He’s a cool guy, so I guess I can share.

Retirement Life Is Good

Another great week of training with Jack. His trainer has been reinforcing the commands he has already been taught along with building on distance and duration. He is very smart and picks up things very quickly. He enjoys learning new things and it helps that he’s very treat motivated.

He has made great progress on give with his food bowl. This still has been his biggest challenge so far. He loves his food!

Jack was introduced to toys this week and he knew exactly what to do with them. He also showed two other greyhounds what toys were all about. He is starting to open up and show some excitement. His trainer is very happy with his progress so far.

Perfect Gentleman

Hey everyone! Jack has had such a great week of training. He picked up leash-walking very quickly and seems to be a very smart boy. He is already making great eye contact and loves learning commands. Other than continuing to work on leash training, Jack has been learning wait, stay, heel, bed, here, kennel, release, let's go, and hurry. Most of those get used every day on the dog run, so he does very well at this point. Bed, stay and here have been the major focal point this week during training and he is progressing very well.

He also has been learning his name and the give command. 'Give' with his food bowl is not his favorite thing in the world; he loves his food but is slowly coming around and lifting his head when he's told to give. They are working on those commands until they're perfected, and then they'll move on and introduce sit, down, jump and off. Jack is doing very well with his adjustment to a new environment, and he's starting to show his personality. He is always happy to get out and learn, and is very affectionate. He loves to lie down on his bed and be petted. His trainer can't wait to see what else he has in store for them during the session! He imagines Jack will be a big fan of the toy room once it's time to introduce him, plus he'll get to run soon. Until next week, take care!

Outgoing Guy

Jack’s inmate trainer says that Jack is doing great! He is a handsome white and brindle boy with the cutest brindle spot right in the middle of his head.  He’s already showing that he’s smart and outgoing.  He’s picked up on leash walking and doesn’t seem to be bothered by the new environment.  Jack has been exploring but isn’t troubled by anything going on around him.   His tail wags with happiness all the time.

Jack’s inmate trainer says that he’s really looking forward to the weeks ahead!
