Graduation Time Has Arrived

Graduation time has arrived and Marshall has passed his graduation exam.  He seems to have the stairs down pat.  He’s only experienced 3 steps up and down so it may take him some time to figure out a longer set of steps, but he understands the concept.

Marshall’s inmate trainer says that Marshall has been doing an excellent job holding his wait/sit/stay before meal times!  He holds his position until released to his kennel to eat.  His trainer says that Marshall is a lovable dog who will do great in any home.  He’s enjoyed his time working with him and is going to truly miss him.

Swap Week Complete

Marshall spent swap week with an alternate inmate trainer going through commands and spending some time away from his primary handler.  His alternate trainer said that Marshall is a very happy and energetic guy who loves attention.  He didn’t mind being away from his primary trainer and settled right in.  Her perform all of his basic commands quickly and flawlessly!  When he first arrived he didn’t really want to share his toys or food, but after bonding with his alternate handler and working on sharing all issues ceased to exist.  Marshall’s trainer says that bonding with Marshall seems to be the key to happiness!

Let The Fun Continue

Marshall has shown great improvement with his manners at meal times!  Before, he had a tendency to break his sit/stay position and go for his food before being released.  He has improved a lot over the past two weeks and is now able to hold his sit position calmly until released!  During playtime he has learned to calm down before getting a toy and now when his inmate trainer holds up his favorite squeaky ball he will “sit” and “wait” for his trainer to say “okay” and throw it.   Marshall is also doing much better with “give”.  Now when he brings the toy back he “gives” knowing that the fun will continue!

This coming week is Swap Week and Marshall will spend some time with an alternate inmate trainer going over his commands.  His trainer says that he’s confident that Marshall will do great!

Marshall’s inmate trainer says that Marshall is very easy to love and is going to make a wonderful addition to his new home.

Chasing the Ball

Dear world, my name is Marshall.  I’m a handsome retired racing Greyhound looking for a forever home.  I’m a young energetic guy who loves to have fun and show off my training skills.  My inmate trainer throws a ball for me and I sit calmly waiting for the toss!  He says sitting helps to focus my energy and keeps me from jumping when I’m soooo excited.  I can see his point, I mean you humans only have two legs and I have four so I got more bounce than y ‘all.  While in training I’ve been learning that there’s a time for play and there’s a time for work.  It balances out and I enjoy all of it.

I hear that after this training bit I’ll be headed to a forever home filled with love and treats.  Now that sounds like a winner!  I can’t wait to see what that’s like!

Playtime Is A Ball!

Marshall has had a great week!  They’ve worked on extending his “stay” in the “down” and “sit” positions.  Marshall is an energetic guy and can get excited but calms down easily.  He loves to play with a ball especially with one about the size of a basketball.  His inmate trainer says that he will chase a ball till he drops!

He’s doing great with all of his commands and most all of them with verbal and hand signal cues.  The “jump” command is a work in progress, but it is coming along!  His extra commands include: paws up, leave it, give, drop, bounce, off, speak, quiet, shake and show me love.  The sky's the limit for this amazing guy!

Understanding Commands

This week has been amazing!  Marshall has really started to grasp his commands and his personality is starting to come out.  His inmate trainer says that Marshall can be quite the goof ball when he wants to be.  His inmate trainer is working on sharing and offering rewards for positive behavior.  His inmate trainer says that he’s having a lot of fun training this wonderful boy and believes he’s going to make a wonderful companion for some very lucky family!

Playful and Happy

Another great week for Marshall!  He’s a happy dog and aims to please.  His inmate trainer says that Marshall can get a bit lazy at times, but other times he needs a nice walk or quick yard run to burn off his energy.

This week they worked on the basics and how to play with toys without jumping on the human. He’s also been learning that barking when he does not get his way is not the way to win rewards. He’s a smart guy and catching on, but he’s not so sure it’s fair.  He is retired you know and should be living like a king with a table laden with treats.

He does really well with grooming.  He’s not sure about having his teeth brushed as he doesn’t know if he should try to chew it or just move is mouth with the motion of the brush.  He doesn’t mind being hugged or approached while eating.  His inmate trainer says that while Marshall is a playful guy he calms easily.

Happy to Meet New People

Marshall has had another great week!  He sat all by himself this week!  He and his inmate trainer have been working on: sit, down, stay, here, heel, wait, paws up, spin, speak and hurry!  His trainer says that he is very proud of this smart boy!  Marshall is a sweet guy who’s always happy to meet new people.

Marshall had the chance to stretch out and run in the big yard this week and his inmate trainer says it was great to watch him have so much fun!

Time for Christmas!

Week two has arrived bringing Christmas to the inmate trainers and Greyhounds.  Marshall’s inmate trainer says that spending time with Marshall was a lot of fun.  They spent time bonding and learning to trust.  (i.e. Marshall was eating and receiving lots of love and attention)

Marshall has been learning to sit, heel, down, and bed.  He’s a little slow responding to wait and let’s go, but he’ll have these figured out in no time!  He knows kennel, release, and here really well!  His inmate trainer says that Marshall has been easy to train and he can’t wait to see what Marshall learns next!

A Wonderful New Life

Marshall has arrived at the prison to begin training for a new life!  His inmate trainer says that Marshall is a beautiful boy who handled his grooming session like a champ! He was bathed, had his teeth brushed, nail trimmed, and ears cleaned upon arrival. He didn’t mind the process, but couldn’t figure out what the tooth brush was all about so he gave it a good chew.

Marshall and his inmate trainer have been spending time bonding and will start training soon!  His inmate trainer says that Marshall is going to be a wonderful dog to work with!
