Ear Rubs Ahoy!

Well, we've come to the last week. It's been a good session for Adele and she has been a wonderful dog. Her trainer hopes that she enjoys her new home. She is so eager and is just go go go all the time. She is like a firecracker! But, at the same time, she's really sweet and friendly. She just wants to be loved by anyone and everyone. She will follow her commands after some reminding, and she might say it's just so hard to remember what to do when you're so excited to be here! But in the end, she's a smart dog and will do what is asked of her, especially if a good treat is in the offering. That, or a nice long rub behind the ears - and then she's in heaven.

Miss World

This week was swap week which means Adele was with a different training team. She did her basic commands great for both the primary and secondary trainers and showed no signs of separation anxiety from her usual team. In fact, she showed how friendly she is and how quickly she adjust to different people. She also enjoyed playing with the dog toys and running on the big yard. Adele was such a joy and a pleasure to have for the last 7 days, as we're sure she will be with her forever family.

Adele Speaks!

All these weeks everyone has been speaking on my behalf. Well, I think it's high time I say a little something for a change. Hi, this is Adele, or Hi Scotia to all my racing fans, and I want this blog to come straight from the doggy's mouth.

First off, things are going great here. I don't know why people complain about prison, because to me things are pretty sweet here! I get regular food, although personally I could always eat more. I get lots of fun toys to play with, and I especially like the ones that squeak. And finally, I get a huge field to run around on once a day.

Everyone loves me and I love everyone. I love getting petted, especially around the neck. That and eating are my two favorite things. School is okay, I mean I like learning, and I'm good at it, but I get bored quickly and rather play with toys. I mean, who wouldn't? Still, if treats are involved, I'm your girl. I'll do anything you say. Overall, I like it here. I'm able to adjust to any situation pretty well so I feel I'll be happy wherever I end up so long as they've got treats and toys, and lots and lots of petting.

Adele The Adorable

It was a good week all around with Adele.  Show and Tell was Friday and the secondary trainer gave Adele her commands in front of the whole group.  She did great!  Her trainers worked extra hard on the "leave it" command this week and it really paid off.   Everyone was very proud of her.

After show and tell, Adele got to show off her speed on the big yard.  She is such a sweet girl that loves attention.  Food is pretty high on her list too.  That's the way to her heart...petting and treats.  Her trainers are looking forward to spending more time with her before she is off to her forever home.  It's hard to get enough of Adele.  See you next week.

This Girl Loves to Learn

Adele had another good week here at Jenkins. She continues to learn and get better her commands. At this point in the program she knows all the commands, but they must be reinforced every day so they become second nature. Adele has always been a good sport about training and she's very smart. It's a real pleasure to work with her. She just loves doing things, whatever they are! Her trainers thinks that to her it's not like training, it's more like playing. She has such a wonderful attitude. While he continues to work on the regular commands, he started teaching her some extras. This week, they're working on Spin and shake. And so far, so good. She can do them but more time is needed however to get her to do it every time. Her trainer really enjoys teaching her new things and says it's one of his favorite parts about this program. We'll keep you posted on her progress. Until next week!

Adele, Full Of Life And Love

It is the halfway point and time is flying by with Adele.  She has most of her commands down pat and is working to improve on a few others, such as, "wait" and "leave it".  She gets so excited going places and trying new things.  You can't blame a girl for that.

Adele is taking her commands from the other trainers and she is responding well.  Her trainer knew she would, because she just loves everybody!  Adele is so full of life and love.  No matter how your day is going Adele will put you in a good mood.

Master of Stay, Future Master of Shiny Floors

Great progress on commands this week with Adele! She's pretty much mastered sit, down, here, and bed. She still needs to work on staying on her bed, and she's doing great at kennel. Plus, she's staying for the most part when her trainer walks straight back and forth. She still needs to shape it, by extending the "stays" further back and having her trainer do a 360 around her while she stays put.

She's doing great with jump, which she had flat-out refused to do it first, but after a few days starting from a low rise, she worked her way up to about two and a half feet using only kibble as a motivator. She is really motivated by kibble and food treats.

There was a slight setback this week on the shiny floor in the hallway; she had slipped one time on the floor and now is a little scared to walk on it. Like a lot of dogs here, when she loses traction, she gets spooked and puts her toes out which is the worst thing to do because then you get even less traction. So, this is something that her trainer will be working on next week. She does fine if she hugs the wall all the way, so they're doing that for now. Also, her trainer is going to take some time on the weekends when nobody's out there to practice walking in the middle. She just needs to get her confidence back and her trainer is up to the challenge and believes in her 100%. How could you not believe in a girl this gorgeous, sweet and smart?

Happy-Go-Lucky Girl

Adele is progressing nicely for only being week three.  She now can do sit and down very well, but sometimes gets them mixed up.  Silly girl.  Her trainer is working on stay and leave it this week.  He feels these will be a challenge for Adele, because this will mean she will have to stay away from her two favorite things... food and attention.  You've got this Adele!  Time to focus...

Adele is super smart and very eager to learn.  This week they also did stair training.  She was a little reluctant to go up the stairs the first time, but came down them like a pro.  This was her first time seeing stairs, so she will definitely get better as the weeks go by.

Adele starting showing an interest in toys, and loves a green dinosaur that squeaks, so she is hoping her new family has it on her wish list.  Adele loves to play and explore, and is a joy to be around.  She is going to be a greyt companion and addition to her forever family.

Curious Girl

Week two is going well for Adele. She is adjusting nicely to her new surroundings and so far no signs of separation anxiety have appeared. Her trainer spent the week with her learning the basics such as her name, kennel, hurry, bed, release, and proper leash walking which includes the commands let's go and wait. For Adele the toughest thing is leash walking. Not so much the commands that give her trouble, but not pulling on the leash. She is just so curious and wants to be apart of anything and everything that you just can't wait. This is not a critical flaw of course, it is only week two. Lots of the other dogs are having to adjust to waiting and not doing whatever you want whenever you want. It just means for right now all of the training is focused on lots and lots of leash walking and less on sitting, down, and stay. The good news is they are making progress in her happy-go-lucky personality and she's staying positive throughout the whole training process. He thinks all that energy will really help her learn all kinds of things when she learns how to learn. See you next week!

Sweetie Pie!

Adele and her trainer are getting to know each other and so far, so good!  She is a sweetie pie; very friendly and loving.  She is extremely curious about everything around her.

Right now her trainer is focusing on teaching Adele her name and proper leash walking.  It's a little bit of a challenge, because she wants to explore and sniff everything.  That's ok.  It's early in the training and Adele's trainer is up for the challenge.

Adele is a happy girl with a tail that never stops wagging.  She is motivated by treats and kibble, so training should be easy with this sweet girl.  She's not too interested in toys yet.  Maybe next week.

Everything went well during intake and Adele took to her new home in the kennel like a champ, with very little whining and no barking.  It's going to be a busy week, with a full training schedule.  Buckle up!  Here we go...
