Graduation is Near!

This past week Jason and his inmate trainer have been polishing up on all of the basic commands he knows as well as all the extras.  All to prepare Jason for graduation next week.

His inmate trainer is happy that his buddy is going to his new home.  Although it will be sad to see him go as he has grown very attached to Jason, as have several of the guys in the pod.

Every week he does something different that makes him even more likable.  He has only been with them for ten weeks so his inmate trainer can only imagine what an impact he will have on the people in his new home after a year or home.

Have a great life Jason!  It's been wonderful knowing and training you!

Cruising Through Swap Week

It was swap week this week!  The inmates exchange dogs to help acclimate the dogs to receiving commands from new people and to experience time without their primary trainers.

Jason’s temporary inmate trainer says that Jason is a gentle, playful, and loving boy!  He minds well and does all of his commands with no problems!  He didn’t seem to have any problems being away from his primary training team and adjusting to his new environment. He hurt one of his toes and limped for a couple of days, but was better by the time he rejoined his primary trainers.

Jason’s temporary handler said that Jason’s new family will really enjoy this guy!  He’s a lot of fun and full of love!  He believes that Jason is going to make a wonderful addition to his new home.

Happy And Playful

Jason puts everyone around him in a playful happy mood.  He is coming out of his shell more every day.  He loves to play with Gracie and has no problem listening to commands when given by other people.  He certainly loves his treats!

Next week is swap week which means that Jason will spend the week away from his main handlers and with a new group.  His trainer believes that Jason will do great!  He knows all of his basic commands and extras really well!

Jason hurt his paw pad last week, but it is healing nicely.

Always Moving Forward

It’s week seven and Jason is always moving forward with his training.  His inmate trainer loves how attentive Jason is!  Jason’s training team has worked hard to help him through the harder commands.  All this hard work has paid off!  Jason is jumping on benches and walking on shiny floors like a champ!  Jason’s secondary and alternate trainers have taken a more prominent role during training therefore Jason has been learning to take commands from more than one person.

Jason is playing a lot more lately and has even let out a playful growl when he gets really into a game.  He loves chewing his Nylabone and he’d never turn down a treat!

Jason’s inmate trainer is looking forward to the days ahead with this wonderful boy!

More Progress

Jason's inmate trainer has been working to polish his basic commands.  They've also been working on a couple of new extra commands, one being "bow".  He's catching on to it very well, they say.  His inmate trainer is confident he'll have "bow" mastered in the next week or so.  Another extra command they are working on is "paws up" which is where Jason puts his front paws on the surface of an object, like a chair or bench.  He has picked up this command very quickly.  Other extra commands he has learned include "shake" and "leave it"!

Jason is a very sweet and laid back dog with a splash of playfulness.  Today after a training session, his inmate trainer and Jason sat back and watched some TV.  He laid there with his head in his lap for almost an hour and would have stayed longer if his inmate trainer hadn't gotten up.  He was very comfortable and content!

He thinks Jason will make a great addition to a home with kids or even without.  He'll be great in any environment!

A Calm Easy Going Boy

One more week of training down and one week closer to Jason moving to his forever home.  Jason has quickly progressed through his basic commands and his inmate trainer believes that Jason could graduate today and pass with flying colors!  His inmate trainer plans to hone in the basics and throw in a few extras since they have lots of training time left

Jason is a loving boy and his inmate trainer believes that he will easily fit in with his new forever family.  He is a calm easy going boy who occasionally gets into a playful mood.  He enjoys playtime with Ann Curry and has no problems being around other dogs.  When he is not playing or training Jason is content to lounge around on his doggie bed chewing on a toy bone.  His inmate trainer is happy to see Jason enjoying himself and plans to work with Jason for improvement every week!

Having Fun

Jason seems to have come out of his shell this past week.  His inmate trainer has enjoyed playing with Jason and watching him have fun.  His training continues to improve.  Jason is highly treat motivated.  His inmate trainer is working to wean Jason off the treat reward and replace it with a praise or play time reward.

Jason loves to run and when he’s let off leash and usually takes off full speed ahead!  Next week his inmate trainer plans to work on the recall command at a distance in the yard.  (Treats included for new commands!)

Brilliant

Hi, I’m Jason.  You should know that my inmate trainer thinks I’m brilliant.  He’s right.  Not to brag, but I already know most all of my basic commands and I’m ready to dive into whatever comes next.  Now, I do have a preference for the proper kibble payment.

I like people and enjoy resting my head in laps.  A good and proper bit of attention is always in order so please people prepare yourselves to share love.  Plainly speaking, I can actually absorb attention like a sponge.

Okay humans, we need to have a discussion about shiny surfaces.  Why do you need them?  Just asking because my inmate trainer believes I need to walk across them.  Where’s the dirt I say?!  A boy needs traction under his feet for a good firm foothold.  Slipping and sliding is really not the proper way to walk.  Maybe it’s more difficult because I have four legs and humans have two?  I don’t know, but I do aim to figure this out just so that I’m successful.

Mr. Calm

Jason has adjusted to this new and very different environment very well and is progressing quickly with training!  He has learned to perform sit, down, bed, and here all within the last week!  Now keep in mind he hasn’t mastered them, but he’s well on his way!  He is a calm passive guy who doesn’t mind sharing his food or toys.  He absolutely loves people and will walk around the dorm from person to person hoping for a quick scratch on the neck.

While outside in the yard and off leash Jason tends to stay by his inmate trainer’s side, but will occasionally take the opportunity to run around.

Jason’s trainer is looking forward to seeing what Jason learns next and is enjoying his time with this awesome boy!
