Progress

Russell is really responding well to the leash during walking and potty breaks, staying on my left side and walking WITH me! He continues to exhibit some anxiety as it relates to the squirrels that are EVERYWHERE when we are walking.

This week Russell and his inmate trainer have been working on the “stay” command while out on the big yard. This consists of the inmate trainer dropping Russell’s leash and attempting to get Russell to stay in place verbally reiterating “stay” and then using his name to get him to come to his inmate trainer. This will eventually evolve to the “stay” and “here” command without using his name.

Training is definitely a work in progress which has really just begun. Many more weeks to go!

With daily training sessions, Russell will eventually know all his commands. He’ll be ready to become an outstanding part of his forever family.
