Laid Back, Loving Boy

Jace was a great dog during swap week.  He breezed through his basic commands for his alternate handler and did them on the first try.  Jace is a very unique dog.  He is very calm and laid back, but loving at the same time.  He's also very obedient and loves attention.  He does enjoy a good run out in the big yard too.  Jace's alternate trainer said he enjoyed working with Jace this past week.  If you're looking for a great dog, then you have found it in Jace!

School's (Almost) Out for the Summer!

Jace has been doing well for the last week. He can get a little too excited (who doesn't when graduation and summer break are right around the corner?) but he can calm down and focus when it's time to do so.

Jace gets so excited around new people and is so different! He initially was quiet and sort of skittish, but now he's a friendly litle firecracker who can't wait to meet his forever family.

Forever Home; Here Comes Jace!

Jace has come completely out of his shell and just loves everyone he meets!  He is such a happy dog. Jace is a big boy, but a gentle guy too. He is very curious about things, so this week his trainer is going to work very hard with Jace on the "leave it" command.

Jace's training has come along great and he performs all of his basic commands well.  He has no problems doing his commands for others. He knows them all verbally and almost all of them with hand signals too.

Jace has a beautiful coat. It is smooth, shiny and oh so soft. He is such a happy and loving dog and his trainer is dreading the day he leaves the prison. He has enjoyed training Jace and his trainer knows he is going to make someone a happy owner.

Smart Boy!

Jace has been doing great with all of his training, and works well with everyone he meets. He's even starting to anticipate his commands around feeding time, so sometimes we change it up to make sure he's paying attention. He loves treats and he loves to play.

Swap week is coming up, and we're looking forward to seeing how Jace handles a brand new human! Jace tells me he's ready to perfect his commands and strut his stuff during swap week. Tune in next week to see what our sweet little boy is up to!

Ready to Play

This week Jace performed well with his secondary trainer as well as his primary trainer. Jace is an energetic, happy and playful hound and gets excited at the drop of a hat! But don't worry - like all Greyhounds, he's easy to calm down. Jace loves everyone he meets and the loud, noisy environment outside of his dorm doesn't bother him at all. It's getting close to swap week, so tune in next week to find out how he handles the switcheroo!

Happy Boy

Jace has started to have a personality change, or maybe it's just now emerging and blossoming. He is such a goofball, really energetic and playful. He's pretty easy to get riled up and get him going. He's a little stubborn when it comes to calming down. It takes about a minute, and when he's excited he really tries to ignore commands but he still does them. It might take a few moments but he does them. He is pretty good at doing them right when his trainer wants him to. He is still a bit skittish about the jump command, but he's coming along.

Jace is a very friendly dog and is friendly around anyone and everyone. He loves attention and getting loved on. All in all, Jace is coming along well and has no problems with anything at this time. Next week the secondary trainers can start training and Jace’s primary trainer is very interested to see how well he performs and behaves with his secondary. Tune in next week to find out!

Ready For Love

Jace and his trainer worked on his duration and distance with his "stay" command this week.  He's improving.  They also worked on all his other basic commands.  He knows his commands and will perform them immediately, but sometimes gets distracted and forgets he's still in training.  Jace's trainer is working on keeping his attention on him.  He's a good boy though and he's very happy and playful.

Jace loves to be brushed and has the most shiny, smooth and soft coat of any greyhound.  Jace's trainer could just pet him and smother him with love all day long.  He expects Jace will receive plenty of loving and kisses in his forever home.  He's ready for it!

Stairs? No problem!

This week Jace has grown more comfortable with performing his commands and getting accustomed to being handled by the secondary and alternate trainers. Jace is an all-around well-mannered dog who has a playful side that sometimes comes out. He and his inmate trainer tried the jump command and did stairs training for the first time. Jace was very reluctant to do jump and to go up the stairs the first time. He did step up by himself on "jump." On the stairs after going up and down the first time, he readily went up and down on his own with confidence! Jace is a little bit slow to respond to certain commands, and his trainer is planning to focus more on these rather than the ones he knows before adding more. Jace is doing very well and his inmate trainer sees improvement every day.

Retirement Life Is For Jace

Jace is bonding more and more with his inmate trainer.  He is still getting accustomed to the facility, people, activities and noise.  He seems comfortable and calm in the environment and is doing well with all the commotion.  Life at the prison is so much different than his track life he left behind, but retirement seems to agree with Jace.

Jace is a very friendly dog and is coming along well with his training. They have been working on "sit", "down", "heel", "bed", "wait" and his name.  Jace's trainer is working to find his true motivation that will sky rocket his training.  He is excited to see how much this sweet boy learns this week.

Shy Gentleman

The first few days with Jace have been great. Jace is a mild-mannered gentle guy. He is motivated by treats but not super motivated yet. He and his inmate trainer have just been bonding and mostly checking for aggression issues, like sticking his hand and his bowl while he's eating, but he's shy still. Jace kind of flinched a couple of times, but he and his trainer are building up their trust in each other. Jace has been introduced to sit, down, heel, kennel, and bed. They are working on his name a lot. Also, sometimes it's hard to remember to say their names before giving commands. Jace is grasping the idea is very well and is adapting smoothly to his new environment.
