Forever Family, Here I Come!

This past week was swap week, and now it's time for graduation. Chase isn't your typical dog. He prefers to avoid conflict at all cost, and takes a few days to warm up to his new surroundings. He's a sweet little guy who's a slow burn. After giving him large doses of love and time, and once he feels safe, that's when he'll reveal his inner wild child. You'll get to see how silly Chase can be, chasing errant flies around and trying to eat them, pouncing toward airborne toys and demonstrating his gift of flight, albeit a temporary state. A dog like Chase is just what Second Chance Greyhounds is about: giving a second chance and a new opportunity to an amazing dog for you to fall in love with.

Laid Back to the Max

Chase took a bounding leap forward this week! He has solved the mystery of the toy and discovered its joy. He loves the sheep toy and laps around and around with the toy in his mouth, and it puts a smile on everyone's face. Hey, I might run around in circles with excitement if I were leaving for my forever home in a week, too!

"Chase Face," his incredibly apt nickname due to his adorable face, has taken his final test this week He will now be graduating on the 20th with the rest of his classmates.

Those of you who keep up with Chase's blog know how he is with new people - he can be a little bit shy, but once you break out the treats and give him some face and neck rubs and scratches, he's all yours. He is sure to fit in with any family lucky enough to get him. Small children? No problems - Chase is childproof! He is extremely tolerant and has no qualms with ear/tail tugs, playing and messing with his feet, or even grabbing for his food while eating. He's one laid-back dude ready to celebrate graduation, summer break, and his new family with you!

Buddy For Life

Chase performs his commands flawlessly for anybody that works with him. He is such a sweet and smart boy. He does take a little time warming up to people, but when he does he's your buddy for life! His low energy and even temper makes him a great catch for any family.

Chase loves to around other greyhounds. Tini and Chase have become good friends and he gets excited to see her. You should see them out on the big yard. He is usually running large circles trying to catch up to Tini. His trainer named him Chase for a reason. LOL

Chase has come a long way since arriving at the prison. His trainer is very proud of him and wishes him the best of luck in his forever home.

Chase Is A Keeper!

Chase is a very intelligent greyhound and knows all of his basic commands, verbally and most of them with hand signals too. Chase enjoys being with his handler, but takes commands for the others just as well. He's a sweet, beautiful boy. Can't you tell?

Chase loves to run on the big yard, and boy is he fast! His inmate trainer enjoys seeing him open up outside. He can't explain the grace and beauty when he's running. It's something you have to experience yourself.

Chase's trainer wishes his forever family the best of luck. He wishes he could keep him for his dog. Chase is a keeper!!

Moving Forward Like A Champ

It's been another successful week of training for Chase. He took to "jump" with no problems at all. That's usually one of the harder commands for the boys to learn, since at the track their crates are on the bottom and they don't have to jump to get into them like the girls do. Great job Chase!  Also with a little repetition he is now going "down" on command. It is always an incredible feeling for the trainers when their hound performs a command for the first time. It's like a proud Daddy moment to them.

Chase is moving forward like a champ. He is definitely the couch potato type Greyhound; preferring to camp out on a bed in the corner and take everything in.  Chase's trainers are very proud of him and all the accomplishments this far in his training. This program has helped him come out of his shell and show everyone what a sweet, smart boy he truly is.

Ear Rubs = Heaven

Chase hit a milestone this week and "sat" on his own.  Now he will "sit" for everything even without being asked.  He's such a funny boy.  He is also venturing more out of his comfort zone.  Although he is still a little unsure of new people, he's quick to warm up to them, especially when he is offered a nice rub around the ears.  That's heaven to him.

After one month, sweet Chase has shown great progress and everyone at the prison loves him.  if you are looking for a sweet boy that loves to relax in his crate as much as he loves to run and play outside, then Chase is your man!

Making New Friends

Chase is showing improvement here at the prison, and his colors really shine when he gets outside! It's a wonder why he was moved to retirement because he runs almost nonstop when he's outside. Because he is very timid by nature, the focus this past week has been introducing him to as many people as possible. While he's not quite the social butterfly, he is allowing more people to approach him than he was before.

During the quiet part of each morning, his inmate trainer allows him to roam freely around the dorm in hopes that he will gain confidence. Chase is still not a big fan of sudden loud noises. Of course, who can blame him? We all enjoy some peace and quiet!

Chase has all but mastered "heel," he stays on his bed well and has started responding to his name and coming when called. His trainer is so proud of him and how well he has performed when going up and down the stairs. After a couple of test runs, he now trots up and down them with ease. This sweet and gentle boy teaches everyone at the prison that despite how uncomfortable we might be, we should all persevere, as there's always a chance to grow and learn.

Gentle Boy

It's the end of Week 2 and Chase still has a lot to experience at the prison.  His trainer is taking things nice and slow to give him a chance to get used to his new surroundings. He is showing much improvement from his first day.  Chase has picked up on a few commands very well - "wait", "heel", "kennel" and "let's go".  He also knows "sit" and is good to lay on his "bed" when his trainer watches a movie.

Chase continues to show a whole new side of himself outside on the big yard.  It's clear he loves the feel of the wind through his fur.  He loves the company of the other Greyhounds when he's running outside.  He is such a sweet and gentle boy!

Loving Retirement

Hello, my name is Prime Boy, but lately I've been called Chase! I have taken to retirement like a fine Italian suit. Who said you have to be old to retire? It's been 5 days since I began my retirement and I am only two and a half years old.

My time here so far has been great, though there are more people around that I am used to. Since I am not too fond of sudden loud noises, I mostly prefer the solitude of my kennel retreat with my fancy quiet time kennel cover. Some days me and my fellow retirees, of which I'm certainly the cutest, will be taken to a great big yard to run around in. So far my favorite thing to do is to run around and chase the other greyhounds. Hey, I guess that's why they call me Chase! I haven't figured out what I'm supposed to do with these so-called toys but I am bound to figure it out soon. In the meantime if I can just get used to all these new people around me then this place will be a breeze. So here I am, with lots of tasty treats, big comfy beds, and plenty of affection. I think I am really going to like my time here.
