Master of Commands

During this final week before adoption time, Drake has gotten so much attention from so many different people. In preparation for him going to his forever home, his trainer has been having him work with different trainers in the dorm that are new to Drake. This is to ensure that he will continually obey his commands regardless of the source. Drake never ceases to amaze with how well-mannered and well-behaved he is. Drake is going to make some lucky and special family feel all the more so. It has been a privilege training Drake and he will be sorely missed from the Second Chance Academy dorm!

Ready for Treats

Although Drake can be a little bit skittish and wacky at times, he is such a carefree and relaxed guy who will be genuinely missed by his training team. They're gonna miss this handsome fella come graduation time. He's back up to his regular weight after a bout of upset stomach. Drake didn't seem to mind at all - he's such a strong dog. He may love affection, but he loves food even more, and definitely did not begrudge his team for having to feed him extra for a few days to get his weight back up. He is such a treat hound! He's continuing to work on commands so he'll ace his final exams and be ready to bound into your arms!

Laidback Lounge Hound

This week was swap week and Drake adjusted so well with no separation anxiety or moodiness from being away from his primary trainer. Drake is a wonderful dog! He's very quiet and loving and sweet. He loves to curl up and just watch whatever is going on around him. He loves to just lie in his kennel and people watch.

He already knows all of his commands, so his swap week trainer's job was easy! He just made sure he will follow commands from new people, and Drake did a stellar job. He is sure to be a loyal companion to anyone lucky enough to add this guy to their family!

Pampered Pooch

Drake is continuing to do great with all of his commands, so his trainer is going to continue to reinforce them.  This week Drake got a taste of counter surfing.  This is where highly desired food is put on a counter and the trainers walk the dogs by it.  Drake is doing a fine job of staying away from food that is not meant for him.

Drake received a bath this week and his trainer thinks he really enjoyed it.  Nothing wrong with being pampered every now and then.  You may come home some day and find Drake in your spa tub enjoying a hot bubble bath and martini!  Wouldn't that be a sight to see.

One Happy Boy!

Drake is continuing to do great on all of his basic commands and is progressing quickly on the extras his trainers have been working on.  His list of extras include:  paws up, pray, bow, and one his trainer likes to call TKO.

When Drake first arrived at the prison, he was timid and shy. It is amazing to see him now.  He is a fun, loving and sometimes playful, handsome boy!  You never hear a peep out of Drake, unless it's first thing in the morning and he's ready for his morning dog run.  Even then, it's barely a whimper.

Drake's trainer is enjoying his time with this sweet boy and knows he will miss him a lot when he graduates.  Someone is going to be ecstatic that they decided to adopt this wonderful greyhound!

Coming out of His Shell

Drake's excitement level at dinner time has increased exponentially over the past week! His shy and timid nature still resurfaces occasionally, but for the most part he seems to have settled in and become relaxed in his environment. During testing this past week, he got "knows well" on all of his basic commands! He will still lock up (sometimes called statue-ing), but it's rare.

Drake has started working on a few extra commands and he seems to be catching onto the extras just as quickly as he did with his basics. He will still freeze up on the shiny floors sometimes, but that's usually only early in the morning. It's like this cute lil goober forgets how to walk when he first wakes up! 'Hey, what are these noodles attached to my body? How do I use them?'

Drake should have no problem whatsoever adjusting to his new forever home, whether or not there are stairs. His continued, steady progress is so remarkable, and he can't wait to show it off to you!

Forever Family Sounds Greyt!

Drake has improved significantly over the past week with his commands, and his trainer couldn't be more proud of him.  He knows all of his basic command well, all with verbal cues and most of them with hand signals.  Awesome job Drake!  His trainer is stunned at how fast he picked up on the "stay" command.  He takes the command "stay" very seriously.

Drake is becoming more and more comfortable with his environment and a lot more social with everyone.  His trainer is looking forward to the week's ahead training this smart boy.  Drake is so sweet and cute.  Take a look at his loving face and give him his forever home he's dreaming of.

Exploring and Learning

Drake's transition from week two into week three has his trainer impressed to the max! Drake has come out of his shell and has become much less jumpy around others. he still gets a little scared when it comes to sudden movements and loud noises, but he's adapting remarkably well and improving each day. His ability to handle these sudden movements and sounds shows a huge improvement from when he first arrived at Second Chance Greyhound Academy.

Drake is also doing amazing with all of his commands. Sometimes he will tug on his leash during walks (what's that? I have to smell it! And what's that? I have to pee on it!). But a light leash check assisted by the heel command and he'll correct right away. He has shown immense progress on sit and down, two of the hardest ones for greyhounds to master due to their long noodle legs. He performs both without assistance and once he is placed on the bed, he can be alone for minutes at a time without moving! He's quickly grasping stay and before long he'll know all his basic commands, and learn some extras to show off to his new forever family!

What a Sweetheart!

Drake has been doing well this past week! He is starting to acclimate to his environment, and he is feeling more at ease. He tends to seek comfort and security by leaning up against a leg while training, but that's just his personality. He stays up close and personal. So affectionate!

His leash walking is going well and he's beginning to develop a firm grasp on "wait" and "heel." Right now he's working on sit, down and stay, but these are all works in progress and it's only the second week. Drake loves his daybed and has no problem obeying the bed command. He is progressing nicely and is becoming more sure of himself with every day that passes. See ya next time!

One Lovable Greyhound

Drake was unsure of his surroundings when he arrived at the prison, but after only a few days he's getting more comfortable with his temporary home for the next 10 weeks.  There's so many new noises, smells, sounds and people to get used to.  It's very different from the track life, but he's adjusting well to the new environment.

Drake is doing very well walking on a leash.  He has already picked up on the "let's go" and "heel" command.  His trainer also worked on a few other commands like "hurry", "kennel", "release", "here" and "bed".  Drake is a sweet and incredibly lovable dog and his trainer is looking forward to teaching him this session.
