Foster Update

Vegas is doing so incredibly well in his foster home. He is absolutely part of the family now and will forever be welcome to visit! Vegas has made huge strides in his training and impresses me each day with how much he learns. He will sit.. stay.. and not even flinch until I release him to his food. He knows that he will not get a treat until he does the commands I give him. Vegas loves to be out side and playing in the yard, and especially loves to lay out in the sun for hours at a time. He will now recall all the way across my property and even while out of sight.

He is wonderful meeting new people and knows no strangers. Even while out in public with all the distractions Vegas walks like a gentleman on his leash.

At home is where Vegas's truly shines!! It is amazing how loving he is and how well he has adapted to my home. He is crazy about being loved on and he loves to cuddle!! He allows me to lift, roll, slide, and pull him. He sleeps while I clip his nails, and is the most gentle big baby ever.

Vegas gets along wonderfully with my Greyhound, and even drinks out of the same water bowl and sleeps on the same bed. He has never even tried to get on the couch or bed.

Vegas would make a great addition to someone already with a Greyhound or an amazing new family member for a first time adopter.

I can't emphasize enough how wonderful and enjoyable it has been to have the honor of having Vegas in my home. He has made such a difference in my life and brought me so much happiness! I would honestly adopt him myself if I had the room to do so and continue to foster future Greyhounds in need of a loving home. I want nothing more than to see Vegas go to a home where he is loved and respected as much as he deserves. Vegas is incredible and I will be so happy yet so sad the day he finds his forever home.

Vegas chillin!

Foster Life

Vegas has adapted very well to his foster home thus far.  When he first arrived he showed slight signs of anxiety, and an extreme sense of curiosity.  After just a few days he had picked up on our daily routine and has fit in quite nicely.  He has had no problems with being kenneled for up to 12 hours at a time while we have been at work.  He has had no elimination problems in the house at all.

Vegas has shown no signs of aggression toward his foster person's existing Greyhound or to any visitors.  He is very playful and loves to be outside in the yard romping in circles, but he calms easily.  In the evening he is extremely laid back and chill, and only wants some love and attention.

He can be very affectionate, too!  His foster family is working to strengthen his basic commands and general manners.  With each day they are building trust and respect for one another and in turn, creating a very enjoyable living experience for the whole family.

His foster person says he is hopeful for Vegas to have a wonderful forever home but until then, he is a welcome addition in their family.

Your New Best Friend

Hello friends, and those who might be needing another boy greyhound in their house.  My name is Vegas and I am doing great at the prison and I am graduating this week!  I know all my commands and passed the test, so I know I will be leaving my inmate trainer soon.  I do like to test him, so I sometimes take my sweet time to follow through with my commands.  I like to keep them on their toes.

If you are looking for a really smart, really funny, really laid back boy, then I am your man.  Um, I mean your greyhound.  I am also pretty handsome, if I do say so myself.

I guess I am a morning person (dog), since my trainer says I get really excited during training in the morning.  I get up at the crack of dawn and I'm ready to go!  Chow time and treats for training; Who wouldn't get excited about that.

I get along great with all four-legged and two-legged friends.  I'm not a fan of another dog getting close to my kennel.  I have my personal space and you have yours. Nothing wrong with that.

My time here at the prison has been so rewarding and my inmate trainers say I've done a great job.  I think I've grown up a lot over the past 9 weeks.  I will miss my trainers and vice versa, but I'm ready for my forever home!  I'd love to show you my portfolio and audition for the role of becoming you new best friend!  See you soon!   Vegas

Pick Me!

Hey Peeps!  Vegas checking in with you for the week.  I am all ready for graduation next week.  I know all of my commands, but I like to keep my inmate trainers on their toes, so sometimes I take a little while to follow through with what they want me to do. I can be a little quirky, especially with the "sit" command.  I like you to tell me to "sit" when standing on my left side.  I know it sounds silly, but it works for me.

Next week is graduation and I'm hoping to have a forever home to go to.  Please, Please, Please, pick me!  I will not disappoint you.  I'm an easy going fella that loves attention; belly rubs, neck rubs, ear scratches.  I'm not picky when it comes to that.  I will be your faithful companion forever!  Over and Out... Vegas

TV Watcher

Vegas is doing great!  He has gotten fascinated with the TV.  It's like he is really watching it. Put on a good movie and he will lay in his soft bed right beside you, and watch it with you.  He knows the true meaning of "couch potato" and retirement.

He has become treat motivated, so does all of his commands with no problems, most of the time.  He can get stubborn sometimes.

He is laid back and very loving.  He plays a little, but not with toys yet.  He runs and bounces when he plays, and sometimes plays with his trainer.  He's like Tigger when he plays.  Overall Vegas is a smart, easy going dog that will make a great pet for some lucky family.

Attention Hound

Week 6 for Vegas has been great!  He knows all of his commands, but can be a little stubborn at times with his follow through.  He is super smart and learns very fast.

On potty breaks, he takes his time to "hurry".  He likes to explore outside and see if there is anything new to discover.

Vegas loves attention and is full of energy early in the mornings before he eats.  I guess he's still in the kennel/racing routine.   He is a laid back greyhound the rest of the time and doesn't have any aggression issues whatsoever.  Vegas has such a cute face and floppy ears that will keep you smiling.  Won't you take a look and adopt him.  He will make someone an awesome pet!

Happiness in the Future

Vegas is doing really well!  He has learned to “sit” but can be a little stubborn about it sometimes. He has learned everything really fast.  His inmate trainer has introduced the “down” command and he will do it with very little hesitation.

Vegas is a smart boy who loves to be petted.  He loves to be scratched under his neck and will kick to the point of almost falling over!  His inmate trainer says that Vegas is a great boy who is going to make someone very happy.

Laid Back

Vegas is doing great!  He has shown improvement with all of his commands!  He’s doing really well with: hurry, let’s go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, stay, and bed.  “Sit” is a work in progress, but his inmate trainer is very proud of the progress Vegas has made.  Vegas still isn’t too crazy about toys yet, but this may change as he learns more about these strange things.

Vegas is a laid back guy and enjoys being around humans and other dogs.  His inmate trainer believes that Vegas is going to make a great family pet for some lucky family out there!

Smart and Loving

This been a great week!  Vegas is continually improving with commands!  He and his inmate trainer have just started working on the “sit” command and Vegas is not to sure what to make of this request.  Greyhounds have a harder time with sit due to all those muscles so it’s not unusual for this command to take a little longer.

So far Vegas still hasn’t shown any real interest in toys yet, but he may come around once he figures them out.  Now, the boy does love a nice soft bed.  Add a little chin or neck rub in deal and you’ve got one happy fella on your hands.  He’s catching on to the Dog Run call (which is their potty break run).  When he hears the call he jumps up ready to go!

Vegas’s inmate trainer says that Vegas is a laid back well-mannered guy.  He’s a smart and loving dog who is easy to love.  His inmate trainer says that he’s looking forward to the coming weeks with this sweet guy.

Training In Progress

This week has been a productive week with Vegas.  He knows his name really well, and he will turn his head and look at you.  He learned "heel", "wait" and "bed", "no" and knows them fairly well.  He seems to be a fast learner, so he will have them mastered in no time.  Next week his inmate trainer will keep working to improve on his commands he already know and also introduce "sit".

Vegas is very laid back and mild mannered.  He does love to have a good run in the yard when turned loose.  He shows no signs of aggression to anything or anyone.  He is doing great and will make an awesome pet for any family.

Welcome To Prison Training

Vegas is doing really well!  He has adjusted to leash walking and already knows a few commands! His inmate trainer says that Vegas is really smart and laid back.  He doesn’t mind having his teeth brushed or receiving hugs around the neck.

His inmate trainer hasn’t really started working on a lot of commands yet as it’s early and they’ve been working on bonding first.  He is adjusting nicely to the new environment.  So far he is not very treat motivated, but he will eat them so his inmate trainer believes that once he has the reward system figured out he’ll be all about the treats.
