Ready For Love

Misty has turned into a stunningly beautiful greyhound that loves life and tackles any challenge that comes her way with her head held high.  Misty is not the only one who has changed over the past 10 weeks.  Her trainer said he knows first hand the difference a positive program like this makes, in both the lives of the men and dogs.  They learn patience and responsibility.  Thank you Second Chance Greyhounds for making it all possible!

Misty passed her final exam and is ready for her forever home.  Her trainer is very proud of her accomplishments.  She learned all her basic commands and also learned some extras, such as "shake", "spin", "leave it", "boo" and "speak".  Misty is quite the class clown and will keep you entertained and laughing out loud.  Enjoy this silly girl!

Greyt Girl

Swap week is here.  This is when the trainers switch dogs with the other trainers for a week.  This helps them ensure the Greyhounds are well behaved and that they will do their commands for anyone.  This inmate trainer was lucky enough to get Misty for the week.  She has no issues at all. She does all of her commands on cue.  She is the most loving, friendly and obedient Greyhound he has met so far.

It was all fun and games this week.  She loves playing with toys and getting riled up, but she will always calm down on command.  She shows no aggressive behavior at all. This little girl is going to steal the hearts of her new family, just like she has stolen his (her alternate trainer's).  He also has not doubt she will be the envy of every other pet owner she meets.

Her trainer said it was a genuine pleasure to be in the presence of this lovable girl.  In addition, he believes her "Greyhound Lives Matter" campaign has secured a new and positive direction for this country.  Thank you Misty and don't forget your trainers when you are famous . . .

Misty for President!

While Misty and her inmate trainer were watching the election coverage this week and pondering the direction of our county her inmate trainer noticed a look of quiet frustration on her face.  He said that’s when it dawned on him that it was due to the fact that neither candidate was speaking on the issues she considers important to her like maybe a Greyhound retirement fund or her favorite, "Greyhound Lives Matter" movement, both ofwhich are noble causes.  That's when her inmate trainer's sense of duty as an American kicked in and he decided to give this girl, who is so rich in character, a voice that will allow her to speak her mind.

The end result is she now speaks on command, and is quick to voice her opinion on anything she deems important.  Her inmate trainer has a vision of her one day taking her fight to Washington and being the strong, eloquent voice for all Greyhounds of this great land!

So that leaves us with the question of who Misty will be casting her voice for. . . let's put it this way, every time she speaks it sounds like "Trump . . . Trump". If you ask her inmate his thoughts on the matter, he would have to say he believes Misty would do just as good a job, if not better than what we have to choose from . . . kind of makes him proud to know her! *sniff* *sniff*

Misty for President!!

Ms. Personality

Misty’s inmate trainer says that working with Ms. Personality has been a wonderful journey!  Her sweet loving character has made training a true joy.  He says that she’s such a social butterfly that they added the “shake” command.  After all, not everyone wants to be greeted by a tongue to the face!  This is the chosen greeting Misty quickly gives to those she deems worthy of her kisses – which is pretty much everyone.

Her inmate trainer is adding a few extras to the list.  He wanted to keep training fun and give her ways to earn treats instead of just staring at him in hopes that he understands subliminal messages to toss tasty treats.

This week SCG came down to check training progress and Misty did great!  She did all of her commands on the first try and made everyone laugh when she performed the “Boo” command in honor of Halloween! Misty’s inmate trainer says that Misty is one of the best dogs to have come through the program so far!

Appreciating The Little Things In LIfe

Misty's inmate trainer says that Misty is one of those dogs that will make you appreciate the little things in life.  Every morning she wakes up with this infectious unquenchable inner passion for having fun!  She is never grumpy and is quick to say hello to everyone here as if she hasn’t seen them in years!  When she runs in the big yard she’s a vibrant ball of pure energy, mixing leaps with full throttle sprints in circles that are reminiscent of her days at the racetrack.

A new training member has been added to the team.  In true Misty style she’s welcomed him into the fold with paws wide open.  It’s an absolute joy to watch her bring a smile to the new guy’s face.  When she “sits” or “downs” for him it’s a reminder of the power of unconditional love that dogs so freely give.

Her Halloween trick has been perfected and was showed off for the first time Friday!  Everyone was laughing and having a great time watching her fall on her side and cover her eyes every time her trainer said “Boo”!  Misty loves to perform and it’s no wonder she has been given the nickname “Ms. Personality”.

Wildly Wagging Tail For Attention

Misty is one of those dogs that make it easy to see why they are called man's best friend.  She loves to meet new people and greets everyone with a wildly wagging tail.  Her inmate trainer has yet to see someone resist the urge to give her the attention she thrives on.  You would think getting a lot of attention would give her a "diva" complex, but she remains forever humble.

Misty knows her basic commands and will do them for whoever gives them to her.  "Boo", her extra command is almost perfect.  Her trainer has no doubt it will be ready in time for Halloween.  Now if he could only take her trick or treating...

Can You Say "Boo"

Misty is the kind of dog that makes you appreciate the little things in life, like a bird.  To Misty they are a fascination.  She spotted and chased a bird out in the big yard the other day trying to figure out what it was.  She is so playful that it could be she wants a new playmate or wants to see if it squeaks, so she can bring it back to her kennel and hoard it for a later date.  She is a hoarder of squeaky toys after all and lives for playtime!

On the training side, Misty is learning to take commands from other people besides her primary trainer, and she's doing a good following through for them.  She is learning too, that you don't always get a treat, sometimes it's just a petting, and she's ok with that.

Misty knows all of her basic commands very well, so she is learning a cool extra to keep it fun for her and her trainer.  She is learning "boo".  When you say "boo", Misty will fall over on her side and cover her eyes with her paws like she is scared.  She is picking this up quickly and will be ready just in time for Halloween.  It is one of the cutest things her inmate trainer has ever seen, and it is sure to bring a smile to anyone's face.  She can't wait to show her new family!!

Part Bird?

After three weeks of working with Misty, her inmate trainer is convinced that she thinks she's part bird.  LOL.  Not only does she constantly ball her bedding up into the perfect looking nest, but she collects toys and whatever else she can carry off to place in her nest (kennel), to lay on as if they are eggs to be hatched or chewed upon at a later date.

Misty loves learning and is highly motivated by tasty treats, which makes for fun and easy training.  She is doing a wonderful job learning her basic commands.  This week they also worked on stairs.  She was nervous at first, but that quickly gave way to confidence.  Now she goes up and down them with no problem.  She does it with grace and beauty, like Scarlett O'Hara.

Misty also had success with the "jump" command this week.  For Misty, "jump" will be an important command.  Being as cute and cuddly as she is, who wouldn't want her to be sitting on the couch beside them enjoying a good movie, like "Gone With The Wind". She's your next couch potato!

Not A Dull Moment With Misty

Misty's inmate trainer is quickly learning there is never a dull moment!  Even when it's bed time where most dogs lay down to sleep, Misty chooses to fluff up her kennel bed and blanket until it is a nest of comfort.  Can you say Diva?

You might think teeth brushing is mundane, but this is not the case with MistyWhen she sees her toothbrush, she greets it with a level of excitement usually reserved for Publisher's Clearing House sweepstakes winners.

Misty is quite funny when going outside to potty too.  Before doing her business, she loves to roll around on the ground for a good minute.  One might think that after it has poured down rain and the ground is soaking wet, she would not do this...well one would be wrong.  She rolls in the grass even when it's wet.

This week a 12 year old puppy came to visit.  Misty was very playful with him and would have loved to play all day if she could have.  Her inmate trainer said it was super cute to watch!

Misty's inmate trainer said training this girl has been going great.  Misty has tackled it with a positive attitude.  She knows her basic commands fairly well and is eager to learn new things.  All in all, Misty is a super sweet dog and is a lot of fun.  Her trainer said it is hard to believe in just 10 short days this girl has stolen his heart.

Ready For The Challenge

When Misty first walked through the door, her inmate trainer noticed she was a very confident greyhound.  While some dogs seemed unsure, Misty held her head up high ready to conquer this new challenge and any other obstacles they through her way.

After her visit to the beauty salon where she received a thorough deep tissue massage, using the latest in flea and tick shampoo, it was time to make her grand entrance to meet the people and dogs she would be spending the next few weeks with.  She was quick to approach new people and eager to play with the other dogs.  She love toys, especially the ones that squeak, so her trainer is using this as an opportunity to teach patience and "sit".  She has to "sit" before she gets the toy.  She is such a smart girl that it only took a few tries before she figured it out.

Mistys inmate trainer has no doubt that this young grasshopper will be able to take the pebble from his hand is just a few short weeks!
