Swap Week Superstar

This week was swap week for the dogs and the trainers. It's exactly what it sounds like: each dog is switched to a different primary trainer for a period of seven days. This allows the trainers to observe how the dog handles being away from the person who trained them for the last 8 weeks and had become in essence their best friend during that time.

When the dogs are first uprooted and moved to a new kennel it is a shock to their system and it sometimes takes a couple of days for them to adjust and to trust a new person. So it was with Ryder. But after day one he was much better. After day two it was like he had always been his secondary trainer's dog. Ryder is a sweet little guy full of energy. He loves to cut loose and run in the big yard (which of course is enclosed with a fence to prevent them from running too far). He likes playing with toys and he likes his chewable Nylabone and his kennel. He knows all of his basic commands and will respond to them quickly without delay. By the end of the week, he and his trainer were having so much fun together that his secondary trainer was sad to see him go.

Given a few days to settle into his new forever home, Ryder will be a great addition to his new forever family. He is a well-trained handsome Greyhound that loves life, and can't wait to love life with you!

Swap week!

Ryder is now up to 72 pounds! He has been a little sluggish this past week and his trainer thinks it's due to the weather change (what's with this wacky weather? Nap time!!!). Other than that, our boy Ryder is doing very well. His alternate inmate trainer gave him his commands this week and he did well during swap week. Sometimes it's tricky to adjust to a new human but he did a great job!

Next up, his trainer is waiting to see how he acts when he's not around to supervise swap time and he's sure that Ryder will do great!

Pick Me!

Hi Ryder fans!  It's going great here at the prison.  I'm enjoying my time here.  Retirement is fun.   I'm also doing awesome with my commands!  At least that's what my trainer says and he can't be wrong.

Let me tell you a few things about me that may help you choose ME to adopt.  I love to play with toys and my fellow greyhounds here.  I love everyone, 2 and 4 legged.!  Petting is a necessity in my forever home.   I'm also open to belly rubs any time you'd like to give them to me.  I'm sweet, smart, cute and lovable.  What more could you ask for?  Oh,  I do love to eat.  That's one of my favorite past times.  I love it so much I learned how to catch kibble.  It's a cool trick.  My trainer thinks it's so cute.  I'm just loving it, because it means more food!!!  I told you I'm smart.

Anything else you want to know about me just ask my trainer.  He won't steer you wrong.  Look into my beautiful eyes and pick me.

Sweet, Goofy Boy

Ryder is still doing well with his commands. He's such a fun-loving active dog. He loves playing with the stuffed animals and calms down quickly when it's time to finish playing. He had some popcorn this week and really liked it. He eats really fast and his trainer has been making him eat from a down position - your dinner isn't going anywhere other than your tummy, Ryder! Promise!

Ryder's trainer is sure that Ryder will make his new family happy for years to come.

Kibble Catcher

Ryder is still coming along nicely with his commands.  He knows all of his commands verbally and most with hand signals too.  He's a sweet, gorgeous boy with a big appetite.  What can he say?  He's a growing boy!

Ryder likes to play with toys and enjoys his interaction with the other greyhounds outside on the big yard.  He loves to run and play.

Ryder is learning to catch kibble.  His trainer will throw kibble up in the air and Ryder will catch it.  He is getting pretty good at it.  Ryder is just a big, fun loving dog with a big smile!  Say cheese...

Smiles Abound

Ryder is a good, sweet dog with an irresistible smile. He has been doing well with his commands, plays well, and loves to run in the yard. He has a good memory and is gaining his weight back. Ryder loves to eat!

Next week we're going to work on "hurry," "leave it" and "jump." So far Ryder knows the verbal commands for almost every command, and the hand signals for "wait," "heel," "here," "sit," "down," and "stay." Tune in next week to see what Ryder is learning!

Ryder: Good Boy at Law

The good boy formerly known as Earl has a new name: Ryder!

Ryder's inmate trainer reported in to say that Ryder is doing great! They are working with getting him used to his name change and it's coming right along. They've been working on his commands and in the coming weeks they'll be working on "jump."

Ryder has a strong appetite but has shown absolutely no food aggression. Stay tuned for the next episode of Ryder: Good Boy at Law.

Progress is Made

Earl is doing really well with his training.  His inmate trainer introduced Earl to stairs this week.He is proud to say he went up the stairs and came down the stairs, without issue!!

Earl enjoys his time on the big yard running and frolicking with the other Greyhounds.  He shows no signs of aggression with anyone over toys, food, or anything else.

His inmate trainer will continue working with Earl to fine tune the 12 or so commands he has learned to increase the response time and consistency.

Earl is a great Greyhound!

Retirement Is Serious Stuff

Earl is making himself at home in the prison and is taking retirement pretty serious.  He is a good, obedient boy that seems to be catching on quickly to what is asked of him.  He is learning his name, "wait", "heel", "bed" and "down".  It is a work in progress, but he'll have them all figured out in no time.  Stay tuned for more updates next week.

Earl is a beautiful brindle boy who will make someone a fabulous pet.  Earl's one request on his Christmas list is a forever home.  Can you be the lucky family to grant him his number one Christmas wish?
