Rockin' and Roachin'

Well, this past week was swap week and Quincy had a great time with his swap week trainer. Quincy is just such a great dog without a care in the world. He's easygoing, laid back, and he knows all of his commands and even some extras. If he is in his kennel he is probably roaching. He loves that position! If he is asleep or awake, he is going to be roaching. This guy loves to play with toys and has so much love to give. He can't wait to meet his forever family!

Relaxing before Graduation

Quincy continues to impress with the way he has calmed and changed his responsive personality. At first he was somewhat hyper and insatiably curious. He just wanted to investigate his new environment all of the time. Over the course of these past eight weeks, he has made a major change and he responds very well to commands and also seems eager to work. Quincy loves to play and you can tell that it makes his day to get a good romp in. His trainer has enjoyed training him and hopes that it has made him into the perfect companion for your family!

A Gentleman and a Scholar

Quincy has had another good week. He hasn't shown any regression in his training and he seems to be even more responsive than last week to his commands. He's so curious about each and everything around him. He still wanders and explores from time to time, but he's become quite familiar with the environment so his focus is much better.

Quincy has proven to be a very well-mannered dog and he loves to play and get attention. His main motivation to perform is food, but a good toy will work just the same. Quincy doesn't mind extended down time and remains content when left in the kennel for long periods of time. A good Nylabone or a treat Kong can keep him satisfied quite easily.

His trainer suspects that he'll go through another curiosity phase at first when he comes into your home, but once he gets accustomed to the environment and the way of things, he'll mellow right out.

Shakin' Paws

Quincy has learned the shake command, an extra command which is pretty cool for when he meets your friends and family. Who doesn't love holding paws? It's so cute - whenever you say "shake!" Quincy offers up a paw to shake your hand. What a gentleman.

Quincy is such a good companion. He loves to roam and play. He can't pass by a toy without acknowledging it, but he does respond to the leave it command well. He knows he needs to chill, and he saves that playful energy for later. He's also good at the "give it" command, an essential for when your goofball gets a hold of a chicken bone, favorite pillow or your credit card that he's taking to buy more toys!

Quincy is such a great dog, and in these last few weeks, he will become ready to graduate and come play with toys in your home, shake your hand, and love you forever.

Greyt Catch!

Quincy's training is coming along great.  He knows his basic commands and his trainer said he is doing much better at relinquishing his toys when told to do so.  He is also working to keep Quincy from being the "treat seizer".  He can't seem to help himself if he sees a loose treat or catches a whiff of food nearby.  A firm "leave it" works when it comes to toys and non-edible distractions, but he loses half of his willpower when food is involved. Maybe there's a little blood hound in Quincy.  LOL   No worries.  There's plenty of time to work on it.

Quincy is a sweet boy with an outgoing personality.  He plays well, calms easily and is super friendly to everyone.  He's quite the catch!  Don't pass up Quincy.

Quincy the Goof

Quincy has made many small strides this week in training. He has improved his response to basic commands and his trainer is even considering teaching him a trick or two. Quincy has also become more submissive with giving up his toys at playtime. He is working on the drop it command to aid in retrieval of toys and other items that he may be reluctant to give up. Drop it tells him to freely release the item from his mouth and abandon it so that you can pick it up and remove it safely. This helps when Quincy is being a little bit stubborn and wants to play keep away instead of giving up his toy. It is not necessarily a corrective command, but it should be said in a firm authoritative voice so that he knows that playtime is over and he needs to give up his toy.

This coming week, his trainer hopes to improve Quincy's response time and see if he can find ways to increase his focus on his handlers. He also wants to see if he will be able to learn any extra trick commands. Quincy is doing great and improving every day.

Fast Learner

Quincy has shown a lot of improvement this week.  He knows all of his basic commands, but sometimes gets distracted and forgets what he is supposed to be doing.  A display of a tasty treat snaps him back to reality and training.  His primary motivation is food and treats.  He likes toys, but the way to his heart is FOOD.  Can't argue with that.

Quincy can be a little stubborn when it's time to give up his toys after play time.  His trainer has been working to show Quincy that he can receive the toy again at a later time and he will be rewarded for his cooperation.  It's a fair trade...a treat for a toy.

Quincy is a sweet boy and a great learner.  I wonder what he will surprise us with next week.

Treats for Tricks?

Week 2 of training with Bobby has been very productive. His trainer was able to introduce him to all the basic commands, and he's still learning how to respond to them but he has grasped the concept of his response granting him a reward. Bobby enjoys toys, but his primary motivation is a food reward. But really, whose isn't?

He's been able to learn a great deal of things during his feeding times. He's still working on maintaining focus on his handler, but that's mostly because his environment is still fairly new and there's so much to look at and so many sounds to investigate. Overall, Bobby seems like he's going to be a good dog and could be a semi-energetic pet. His trainer is so proud of his progress thus far and can't wait to continue working with him.

A New Life for Bobby

Week one with Bobby has been off to a slow but steady start. Bobby is a big dude and is a leash puller, but he is still adapting to his new environment and figuring out that doing commands equals rewards in the form of neck scratches and tasty treats. He has started to grasp the few commands that his trainer introduced during the first week, and his trainer is sure he will soon blossom into a well-trained, studious graduate of Second Chance Academy.
