Training Without Treats

Another good week for Casey!  He is really doing well with his commands even without treats!  His inmate trainer says there’s just something about the way Casey looks at him as if he’s asking, “what do you want to do next?” He learns very fast and will start doing commands on his own just to get a treat! 

His secondary trainer has been working on commands with him to help him respond to new people.  At first he was reluctant to respond to the new trainer, but he’s coming around and getting better each day!  Next week is swap the hound week where the trainers exchange dogs to work on command response from new handlers and to experience time away from their primary handlers.  Casey’s inmate trainer says that he believes this is harder on the handlers than the dogs!  He’s going to missing seeing Casey every morning, but knows that he’ll do a great job for his temporary handler.
