Casey's First Week.....He's such a HAPPY boy!!

We’ve had Casey for a week now. When he first arrived he was very excited to be around other greyhounds. It only took Casey a couple days to master our stairs! He enjoys romping around the backyard with the other greys. Casey went on his first walk through the neighborhood and was great on the leash. We introduced him to our neighbors French bulldog and he was a complete gentleman. Casey would be a great addition to a family with another dog.  He is a very sweet and loving dog that I know will make that special someone very happy when he gets to his forever home.

Graduation Has Arrived

Well, it’s here – graduation.  Casey has passed his test and is ready for his forever home.  He was even used by some new inmate trainers who took their command test to work with the dogs.  This proves that Casey will perform commands for anyone!

Training Casey has been a lot of fun for his inmate handler!  He’s going to miss this sweet guy who’s always looking for attention.  When his inmate trainer tries to read or do something for himself Cooper interrupts in order to receive attention!  His trainer says that it’s only fair to say that this is one of the many things he loves about this adorable boy!  He only gets bossy when he’s running with the other Greys.  He wants to be the group commander giving marching orders.

Casey is a happy-go-lucky guy who’s sure to steal the hearts of his new family members.  His inmate trainer is going to miss him, but Casey has earned a special place in his heart and his memory will last a lifetime.

Training Time Is Almost Over

Casey is back and settled back in with his primary inmate handler after swap week!  Casey is a smart guy who enjoys attention and doesn’t mind having his coat brushed.  His inmate trainer has noticed that if Casey’s left ear is handled roughly that he’ll yelp.  Casey enjoys playtime with the other Greyhounds, but does like to be bossy and isn’t a fan of sharing his toys with the other Greys.

Casey has successfully learned to speak, whisper, bow, lap, circle, leave it, off and give!  He’s a little slow to respond to the give command, but he will follow through.

His inmate handler says that Casey is going to make a wonderful addition to a very lucky family!

What A Great Guy

Casey's alternate inmate handler says that it was a pleasure spending the week with such a well trained dog!  He did notice that Casey seems to be addicted to treats.  He gets energetic whenever treats are offered as a reward and glum without the testy reward.

Casey has a great personality and plays well with other dogs and toys.  His recall command his excellent even in the big yard.  His alternate handler believes that some lucky family is going to be very happy with this great guy!

Training Without Treats

Another good week for Casey!  He is really doing well with his commands even without treats!  His inmate trainer says there’s just something about the way Casey looks at him as if he’s asking, “what do you want to do next?” He learns very fast and will start doing commands on his own just to get a treat!

His secondary trainer has been working on commands with him to help him respond to new people.  At first he was reluctant to respond to the new trainer, but he’s coming around and getting better each day!  Next week is swap the hound week where the trainers exchange dogs to work on command response from new handlers and to experience time away from their primary handlers.  Casey’s inmate trainer says that he believes this is harder on the handlers than the dogs!  He’s going to missing seeing Casey every morning, but knows that he’ll do a great job for his temporary handler.

Performing Like A Pro

Everything is going well with Casey!  His inmate trainer is still working to cut back on treat rewards, but Casey isn't really crazy about this idea!  In his mind payment for a job well done is only fair!  Casey does all of his basic commands as well as a few extras like lap, where he puts his front paws in your lap. He will also speak on que, perform paws up on a chair or window sill, and will shake with either paw! He is also doing really well with the stairs.

Casey loves attention and is full of energy.  His inmate trainer says that this smart boy is capable of so much. He is going to be missed when it's time for graduation.

Treats Please

Another great week for Casey and his inmate trainer!  They have been working on paws up, lap, speak, kennel, sit, down, jump, off, bow, stay, wait, here and back!  Casey is doing really well with all of his commands.  He can be a little stubborn if he doesn't get a treat reward, but his inmate trainer is hoping that Casey will be off the treats soon and responding to praise alone.  Casey will do every command he knows just to see if he can get a treat.

Casey likes to play and can get carried away sometimes mouthing in excitement, but his inmate corrects him.  His inmate trainer has been working on  leave it and making him sit before meals.

Speaking on Command

What's up?! Casey here to tell you about my week!  I now know how to speak on command!  How cool is that?! My inmate trainer has been teaching me stay, sit, here, wait, jump, off, down and bow.  Did you know that I get treats for following through with commands?!  What an awesome deal!

Sometimes when I'm in my kennel I think my inmate trainer needs  to pay me more attention.  If he ignores me I'll grab my bed and sling it around.  If he ignores me for too long I'll settle down and then he'll acknowledge me.  I really don't get it I know I look cute throwing my bed around. Wonder why it takes him so long to pay me attention?

We should discuss toys.  It's quite simple actually - I LOVE them.  I love to rip 'em up and eat them, but my inmate trainer says that eating them is not a good idea.  He watches me while I play to make sure I don't eat any of my toys - and because I'm cute.

One Amazing Guy

Casey is doing well with his commands!  His inmate trainer says that Casey has three types of bows. 1) is a one paw bow, 2) is a quick half bow and 3) is the full bow.  Casey is doing really well with hurry, let's go, kennel, wait, here, sit, down and bed.  He is a little slow to respond to release, heel, stay and jump but his inmate trainer knows he'll have these commands accomplished very soon!

Casey's inmate trainer lost his mom last month and having Casey around has really helped him deal with the grief.  He says that Casey looks up at him as if he understands and wants him to know that he has a friendly furry shoulder to lean on.  His trainer says that through it all Casey keeps him smiling and he's thankful for their time together.  He knows that some family is going to be very lucky to have this amazing guy.

Learning The Basics

This week with Casey has been a lot of fun!  He's starting to pick up on his basic commands!  His inmate trainer says that his waits and walking on a leash are great! Casey is doing better with the here command and coming when called!  He sat for the first time this week without help!  He's still a little slow to respond to bed, but he's showing improvement every day!  He is doing well with the kennel command and almost has stay down pat!

His inmate trainer says that Casey is a loving guy who is going to make a wonderful pet.  He doesn't like to be left out if another Grey is receiving attention.  He will walk in between his inmate trainer and the other grey to get a bit of the attention for himself!

A New Leash On Life

Casey seems like a very gentle loving guy and his inmate trainer already knows it's going to be hard to let him go when the time comes.  He is doing well with his leash training there's no pulling and he stays right beside his inmate trainer while walking.  If he gets ahead his trainer tells him "easy" and he goes back to his trainer's side!

In the big yard Casey loves to run!  He likes to chase his tennis ball and gives it up easily! While sleeping in his kennel he rolls onto his back with his feet up in the air assuming the roach position.

Casey has started learning his basic commands and knows let's go and wait really well.  He's a little slow to respond to kennel, hell, here and bed, but his trainer has no doubt that he'll have the licked, errr, down in no time!
