Hard Not To Love

This is the final week of training with George.  His inmate trainer wasn't sure about this tall dog when he first came to the prison, but now he looks over at his buddy George, and says he's his favorite greyhound he's trained so far.  With his sweet attitude and big glowing eyes, it's hard not to love him.  They didn't see eye to eye on some things, but they always worked through them.

His inmate trainer said all of their hard work has paid off.  George passed his graduation test the other day.  He knows all of his basic commands and all of his extras.  Of all the dogs his trainer has trained in the program, he's never been more proud for any other dog than he is for George.  He's such a great dog and friend.  He knows that his buddy George is going to bring his new family lots of love and joy.  Good luck George!

Toy Trance

It's been another fun and eventful week with George.  His inmate trainer calls him his buddy.  He is such a sweet and curious greyhound with a short attention span when it comes to a squeaky toy.  If they are going over his commands, and he hears a squeaky toy, his trainer and George have to take a short break and walk around to get his attention back.  He's just like a little kid!

He will do all of his commands for a toy.  He will "drop it" or "give it" whenever his trainer asks.  Sometimes he will just sit and stare at a toy when he really wants it, and won't move until his trainer throws it.  It's almost like he is in toy trance.

George had a play session out of the small yard with some of the other greyhounds, and his trainer was very proud of him.  He was very well behaved.

George's inmate trainer is very pleased of the progress that he has made since day one at the prison.  He knows George will make his new family very happy.

Did I Hear a Squeaky Toy?

This week Mr. George's trainer has been polishing up on his basic commands.  He knows all of them really well, but can get easily distracted sometimes, especially when he hears a squeaky toy.  So his inmate trainer has been working on his attention as well.

George's love for squeaky toys has grown quite a bit since he first arrived at the prison.  After each training session has playtime with his toys.  During this time his trainer uses some extra commands like "leave it", "give it" and "drop it".  His trainer is very proud of George's behavior during these playtimes.  George is learning and doesn't even know it.  George will  "sit" or "down" and wait calmly until the toy is thrown.

Everyone at the prison loves George, and he loves the attention.  George's inmate trainer has been enjoying his time with this sweet greyhound and said George is his favorite one that he has trained.  He knows George will make a great new loving addition to some lucky family.

Ready and Waiting...

Hi Folks!  George here.  I have been hearing from some of my greyhound friends that they are being adopted after graduation and going to their forever homes.  I was just wondering why I'm still available.  I've made a list of pros and cons about me - maybe that will help you decide to pick me.  I am cute, super sweet, I learn quickly, I don't mind having my teeth brushed, I love to be brushed and loved on, I have soft fur for petting, I know all my basic commands and quite a few extras, like "shake", "leave it", "give it", "drop it" and "bow", I get along with my grey friends, I was a pro athlete, and I adjust to new surroundings easily.  OK - that's a list of pros, here's the cons... I don't have any.

If you're looking for a happy, cuddly boy dog, and you are dedicated to doggie petting, then fill out an adoption application on me today!  I will be ready for my forever home on September 15, 2016.  Please don't disappoint these big brown eyes of mine.  I'll be waiting...

King of the Soccer Field

Another week has come and gone with so much progress made with George.  He has all of his basic commands mastered, and has improved tremendously on his extra commands, "leave it", "give it", and "drop it".  These extra commands make play time easy and fun.  When George is told "give it" or "drop it', he leaves the toy alone and steps back waiting on his trainer to throw it, so he can chase it.

George has also discovered a new love in the form of a pink Jolly ball the size of a soccer ball.  He is the king of the field with it.  He is so fast and good with rolling the ball with his nose, that none of the other greyhounds can even touch the ball.  Sign him up for the MLS!

George has also learned "shake".  He tilts his head to the side when he lifts his paw to shake.  It is so cute.  George's inmate trainer can't wait to see what else this talented boy can learn in the remaining weeks at the prison.

Sharing Toys

A lot of progress has been made this week with training!  George has pretty much mastered all of his commands!  He can be a little hard headed sometimes, but he will follow through.  His inmate trainer says it’s like George is weighing the odds of what’s in it for him to follow through.

George has started discovering toys, especially squeaky toys!  His inmate trainer has been using toys as a play reward for learning leave it, give it and drop it.  He’s picked up leave it and give it really quickly and drop it is still a work in progress.

George plays really well with the other dogs and doesn’t mind sharing his toys.  He’s starting to run more while out in the big yard and his inmate trainer says that it’s a sight to see!

The Stay Master

George has greatly improved this week on his "stay" command.  His inmate trainer has been working on different "stays", like standing, sitting and down stays.  George has a really cute sit.  When he sits he likes to bring up one of his paws like he wants you to shake it, and he will tilt his head a little to one side.  It's almost like he's wondering where his treat is.

George is doing better on the stairs.  His legs are so long, that climbing them seems awkward for him.  He's such a goofy boy!

Mr. George is starting to like toys.  His favorite toys are a squeaky alligator and squeaky teddy bear.  Now that he is playing with them, his inmate trainer is working on incorporating some extra commands like:  "leave it", "give it", and "drop it".

George's trainer is very proud to say that George did really well with testing this weekend.  He did all of his commands on the first try.  His inmate trainer is dreading the day George leaves the prison.  He has grown very attached to this sweet boy in only a few short weeks.  He knows that whoever adopts George will form a bond that will last a lifetime.

A Real Sweetheart

Week two has already come to an end.  George’s inmate trainer says that time is already flying by! He is proud to report that George was sitting on his own by day 3!  By day 4 he was already understanding the “down” command.  He pretty much had the “bed” command down on the first day.  George is not only a smart guy but he’s a real sweetheart.  His leash walking skills are showing great improvement.  He is picking up on the “let’s go,” and “wait” commands really well. When he’s being trained in front of a group of people they laugh when his trainer says “Good Boy, George.”  It makes them think George of the Jungle.

George’s inmate trainer says that he is looking forward to the coming weeks with the King among Greyhounds!

Walking A New Path

George is a tall boy with bight beautiful eyes.  His inmate trainer says they always seem to be glowing with life and happiness.  George is very gentle and loves attention.  So far he’s been they've been working on his leash walking skills.  Right now, George is very inquisitive and is pulling with excitement, but his inmate trainer knows that George will understand proper leash etiquette soon enough.

George’s inmate trainer plans to start working on sit, bed, and kennel in a couple of days and is looking forward to seeing how far George with training.
