Sweet boy ready for his forever home

It’s been two weeks with Slick for us!

Slick is going to make a very loving and loyal companion. He is absolutely a velcro dog- Slick wants to be with you wherever and whenever you go. He is ready to be your best friend!

Slick loves squeaky toys, going on walks and exploring the neighborhood, and the company of people and other (big) dogs. He does have some separation anxiety, but he has greatly improved in the two weeks we have had him. He wants to be with you whether you are going for a walk, doing yard work, or reading/watching TV. He will miss you so much that he will give you a big ahhhWOOOOOO when you come home!

Slick deserves an affectionate and devoted owner who will give him all the love and attention he deserves. I can’t wait to see him thrive in his new home. We have grown very fond of him!

Squeaky Toys!

This past week has been a fun one for Slick and those on his team. He’s really started to play in the training room. They have a short play session before and after they train if he wants to let loose. Slick may not run around guns blazing each time he plays, but every few days he just goes nuts and runs around and hops up and down to get toys!. He is tough on toys. He loves them if they squeak, but they will quickly go silent and start to lose limbs if they aren’t industrial quality toys.

Training is going very well. He knows his basic commands and a list of extras. He knows room, water, leave it, give, catch, fetch, off and lift. Lift is a new one he just learned. When his trainer needs to wipe off his paws, she will tap his leg twice and say “lift”. He will raise each paw off the ground so she can wipe them off.

What A Great Week!

Slick has had a great week!  He’s done really well with stay and heel and is even getting the hang of jump.  He enjoys playing with the other pups and all the humans absolutely love this sweet boy.  The officers and medical staff can’t believe how a dog this size can be so easy and gentle.  He loves to have his toys surrounding him (aka hoarding)  A funny fact about Slick… He doesn’t like his muzzle in the water bowl just his tongue!  His inmate trainer says that she’s having a great time with this sweet boy.

"Hunk Of Burning Love"

Another great week in the books!  Slick has gotten almost all of his commands down pat except for heel.  He’s getting a little more playful as time goes by.  He’s been introduced to the big dog beds in the TV room and he loves them!  He also got to play with a full size soccer ball this week and he loves it!! He picks it up off the floor and carries it to his bed. His favorite treats are turkey meatballs, salmon jerky, beef lung.  Slick gets an Elvis song dedicated to him each day.  It started when another primary inmate trainer called him “hunk of burning love”.  He’s started roaching in his kennel!  His inmate trainer is happy to see him getting more comfortable.

Catch This

It’s been a great week with Slick!  Command wise they’ve moved on to stay and heel.  He’s doing really good with both!  He’ll have them down pat in a couple of days.  They participated in Show and Tell this week and Slick did great!  He went through all of his commands except stay.  He loves to catch toys during play time.  His inmate trainer says that she’s having a great time with this sweet boy.

Quick Learner

Slick has had a great week!  This week they’ve been focusing on “bed,” and “here.” Daily they use “kennel,” “wait,” “release,” “hurry,” and “let’s go” and he’s doing great!  His inmate threw out the “sit” command and Slick actually sat down!  He’s been sitting ever since!  His inmate trainer plans to introduce “stay” and “heel” next week.  Slick is one smart cookie and she can’t wait to see how he figures everything out!  He’s tried ice cubes and peanut butter this week.  He loves peanut butter!

Gentle Boy

Slick’s inmate trainer says that he’s a very sweet and gentle boy!  His first week in the prison training program has been really good!  They’ve started using some basic commands as they go about their daily routine.  He doesn’t mind being in his kennel, but going in is way more appealing with a treat tossed in. His inmate trainer says it’s only been a week, but she already sees progress!
