Frankie’s trainer said the most rewarding part of dog training is the moment when a command you’ve been working on clicks in the dog’s mind and he does it on his own. It’s a feeling of accomplishment and a proud moment.

There are dozens of little nuances involved in shaping certain behaviors that a trainer might spend days training, but they only take Frankie one session to comprehend. This week Frankie’s trainer started teaching him “jump” using the station they assembled in the day room. His trainer pointed to the jump station and said “jump”, then lured Frankie with a special treat. He tried it again a couple minutes later (this time without a treat) and he immediately jumped. Of course, once Frankie was up there, he played down and looked at his trainer with those big brown eyes expecting a treat. Just like “bed”, getting him up there is the easy part. Getting his lazy self off? That’s another story. For now, that still takes a bribe (treat). LOL

Frankie is a one of a kind hound and whoever adopts this smart boy is in for a real treat.
