Graduating To Retirement

Susie’s final week in training has arrived.  Her inmate trainer says that he’s afraid that he’s become quite attached to this wonderful girl.

She’s come a long way from the day she arrived.  She has a short attention span so her inmate trainer kept the training sessions to about 5-10 mins at a time.  At the end of each session she was ready to be loved on or take a nap in her kennel.  She still gets a little over excited at times and jumps up on people but has shown great improvement with this behavior.  Her inmate trainer says she’ll listen to correction and this will help her understand that jumping in greeting is not a desired behavior.

Susie’s inmate trainer knows that saying Goodbye is going to be hard, but knowing that she has a wonderful retirement ahead of her makes it hurt a little less.

Swapping For Training

Susie’s alternate inmate trainer says that his time with Susie during swap week was great!  She knows all of her commands and is a joy to be around.  She can be a little stubborn from time to time but will do whatever you ask for a tasty treat!  Her alternate trainer says that it didn’t take Susie long to warm up to him and she didn’t have any problems being away from her primary trainer.

He says that Susie has this fanny backward dance she does when she goes to potty.  He said that at first he was afraid she was going to step in her business, but she just danced her way right around it!  Susie’s alternate trainer says that Susie’s a girl you’re sure to lose your heart to before you even know it.

A Little Toy Toss

This week Susie has been working on some extra commands.  Her inmate trainer is proud to report that it only took her about 40 minutes to learn both “back” and “bow”!  Susie has started to open up and play a little more these last few weeks.  She loves to shake and throw toys everywhere!  Her favorites are the soft plush toys.  Her inmate trainer says that he truly enjoys seeing this silly side of her!  He believes that her wonderful personality is going make her irresistible to her new family!

Where Does Time Go?

Susie’s inmate trainer says that time is going by so fast with this sweet girl!  He says that Susie is a very sweet and loving girl.  She’s knows all of her commands including “jump.”  She still has some room for improvement with the “stay” command, but she does really well at short distances.  They’ve started working on some extra commands such as: back, show me love, visit, and shake.

Susie is a very out-going and friendly girl who’s also perfectly content to lie around and enjoy the restfulness of retirement.  Her inmate trainer says that she’s an excellent Greyhound and he knows that she’s going to make her forever family very happy.

What A Clown

Hi, I'm Susie.  I'm working on learning commands with my inmate trainer.  I know all of my basic commands.  I know the jump command as well, but I'm not too sure about jumping very high.  I've gotten much better at not jumping up on people when I see them.  I admit I get excited to see people but I'm beginning to understand that it's not polite to jump on them.

I'm not a fan of loud noises and tend to shy away from them.  I love to play!  My inmate trainer says that I'm a clown.  I've learned that I can throw and play with toys all on my own!  They're so much fun and some of them squeak!!  I love humans, attention, and love!  I hope my forever home is filled with all of these things - including toys!

Working Towards Retirement

Miss Susie Q has come a long way in the past five weeks.  She knows all of her basic commands except for “jump.”  Her inmate trainer is working with her daily to improve this command.  They’re also working on increasing the distance on the “stay” command.  Her inmate trainer is proud to report that she’s improving every day!

Susie gets so excited to see people that she jumps with enthusiasm, but her inmate trainer is working to help her understand that ladies do not jump on people.  She’s catching on, but sometimes she just can’t help herself.  She knows all of her commands with verbal cues and many with hand signal cues!

All Smiles

Susie has learned that the quicker she performs a command the faster she gets a treat.  Her response time has improved dramatically with this new discovery.

She is showing a little interest in toys, but will only play with them for a few seconds before losing interest.  Her inmate trainer has been working on the “stay” command and she’s working hard to get it but really wants to go wherever her inmate trainer is going.  He knows that she’ll get the hang of it soon.  They worked on stairs this week and at first she was a little unsure but after the third time she was running up and down them without a problem.

Susie prefers short training sessions.  She’s willing to work for a few minutes before she wants to lay down and take a nap or have you give her scratches and rubs.  Her inmate trainer wants you to know that Susie smiles.  She just showing she’s happy, but if you don’t know what a Greyhound smile looks like you’ll think she’s bearing her teeth in aggression and that’s not the case at all! Nope, she’s smiling at you!

Sweet Little Susie Q

Susie is doing great with training!  She already knows the “sit” and “bed” commands really well! Her inmate trainer says that Susie doesn’t like to sit near as much as she likes the bed command!  She’s also doing really well with:  let’s go, kennel, release, wait, heel, and here.  Her inmate trainer is very happy with the progress Susie has made so far.  Next week he plans to work with her on the stay and jump commands and hopefully mix in a little toy play.

Susie’s inmate trainer says that Susie would much rather be loved on than do any training work. She is a sweet and gentle girl who brings joy to each new day.  He's given her the nickname Susie Q and can't wait to see what this sweetie learns next!

One Cute Girly Girl

Susie is a sweet and docile girl who’s doing really well in the new environment!  Her inmate trainer says that he believes that Susie would be perfectly content to lay on a bed and get her belly rubbed.

Susie’s training is coming along wonderfully.  She has learned how to:  leash walk, wait, here, kennel, bed, heel and down!  They’re working to improve her response to each command.  She’s also been working on “sit” and as with most Greyhounds this command tends to be the hardest due to all those muscles.

Susie’s inmate trainer says that Susie is a girly girl and is simply adorable!

Acclimating

Susie's first few days have been spent getting acclimating to her new surrounds.  She is a very curious Greyhound but more than that, she is a very happy and loving one!  She and her inmate trainer have begun working on a few commands including "kennel", "bed", "here", and "wait".  She is picking up on things very quickly.

She loves attention and has discovered the joys of a good belly rub.  Her inmate trainer believes this is going to be an interesting and fun session with Ms. Susie Q.  He is looking forward to seeing what Susie is capable of learning during the weeks to come.  Stay tuned!
