Swap week. No problem.

Swap week time!  Quinn spent some time with an alternate inmate training team this week.  This time allows the trainers to see how well the greyhounds adapt to change and follow commands from a new team.  Quinn knows all of his commands and likes to sit down for everything!  Once he settles in he performs all his commands with no problem.  He also did well spending time away from his primary trainer.

Quinn’s not too crazy about the shiny floors, but will muster up the courage to walk on through.  He’s an energetic guy who loves to play with toys. His inmate trainer has been working on the “give” command during play time.  Quinn is not too fond of the idea of giving the toy back he doesn’t understand why he has to stop having fun.  His trainer exchanges a yummy treat for a toy so that it’s a positive experience for Quinn.

Up For The Challenge

This session is flying by.  It’s already week 8, which means that swap week starts this week.  The inmates will exchange hounds getting the opportunity to work with a different dog.  The dogs get the chance to receive and respond to commands given from a new team.  Quinn’s inmate trainer believes that Quinn is ready for the challenge!

Quinn’s inmate trainer says that Quinn is going to make a great addition to his new family.  He’s a playful guy who’s full of life and lights up a room.  He loves being outside running and jumping.  He played chase with his trainer, stopping to zig zag across the field while he waited on his human to keep up.

Class Clown

Hello again, everyone! I hope everything is going well. Quinn is progressing along well this week and has been practicing his stairs. He did great at show and tell and Quinn seems to have had lots of fun this past week; he's acting goofier than normal! He was rolling around in the dirt and lying down in the pool of rain water on the volleyball court. What a goober! As his trainer was updating his blog, Quinn was sitting in his kennel tossing his blanket around acting like a goofball. He is such a good boy!  He loves meeting new people and smelling new things, and is filling out his life as a student so nicely. Quinn is a happy-go-lucky, smart guy who just loves to be loved! Are you going to be the lucky duck who takes home this handsome, sweet source of endless entertainment and affection?

Fetch Anyone?

Quinn has made great progress with his commands this week!  At Show and Tell he nailed all his commands except “heel.” His inmate trainer is proud to see that everything is coming together and he knows that Quinn will have “heel” mastered soon enough.  The plan is to keep reinforcing the commands he knows and working on cleaning up anything he hesitates to respond to.

Quinn is an energetic guy. He loves to play with toys and a ball, which he loves to fetch.  His inmate trainer says that Quinn is a loving boy who is going to be a great friend to his new family.

Peanut Butter!!!!

Quinn is doing great this week.  His commands are coming along nicely.  He's a quick learner and catches on fast.  He did very well at show and tell this week.  "Jump" seems to be his favorite one.

This week Quinn found a new love.  A love of peanut butter and he loves it... ALOT.   He will do just about anything for peanut butter.  The sky is the limit.

Quinn is a smart, playful and lovable boy and he's guaranteed to brighten anyone's day.  No bad days with Quinn around.  Gotta love him!

Looking For A Special Someone...

Quinn is making progress by leaps and bounds.  His personality is starting to shine through.    He was timid coming into the program, as most of them are, but now he seems very relaxed in his temporary home.  He's playful and curious about everything.   His training is going well.  He knows "hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release" and "bed" well.  The other commands he's a little slow to respond, but he's got lots of time to work on them.   His trainer is sure he will have them mastered in no time.  Practice makes perfect!

There are no bad days when Quinn is around.  He will give you a nudge with his nose just to see you smile.  Quinn is a special boy that is looking for that special someone.  Can it be you???

Easy Breezy

This is Quinn's third week in school but his first week under the tutelage of a new trainer. His trainer says that even though Quinn is a larger boy, he is very gentle. He is also a playful pooch, but he is so easy to calm down. He is so easy to work with, learns quickly, and takes to correction quickly, as well.

Quinn's best quality so far is his loyalty. He is going to make an amazing best buddy to some lucky duck!  He's the kind of dog you would take anywhere. He bonds very easily and trusts easily. He's more like a labrador than a greyhound. He even looks like one with his black coat, big smile and gentle nature.

What a ham!

Quinn is settling in nicely. His trainer and him have a nice little routine going that he's comfortable with and likes. This handsome guy is working on getting his commands down and his trainer has so far introduced him to sit, down, stay and heel. He's doing it slowly though, and doesn't train more than 15 minutes per session. You gotta ease into it since greyhounds have shorter attention spans than humans, and training should be fun for them!

Quinn is such an amazing dog - he is so full of plain, unconditional happiness. He is like a big lovable goofy kid who loves to eat. He loves to come out of his kennel and see what's going on. Curious and friendly, he's the kind of dog who will always bring a smile to your face no matter how down you feel. He reminds his trainer a lot of Scooby-Doo! Zoinks!

This week and next and the next after that, Quinn will keep training and playing. Repetition is the key to success, and so is making sure to find time to have some fun!

Excited for a New Life

A new session has begun! A greyhound with the racing name El Chapo, now Quinn, has bulldozed his way into his trainer's life - full steam ahead. It took about a day for Quinn to get over the shock of the move into his new environment, but soon after he arrived, he shed all that quiet timidity and is now fervently exploring every nook and cranny (and smell) of his new world. And he's loving every minute of it!

Quinn goes "down" in his kennel easily and seems relaxed as he watches everyone go by. He and his trainer are in a high traffic area of the dorm, and some dogs can be nervous about that, but he does not mind at all.  He loves to be out of his kennel and in the action. Quinn greets everybody with a friendly, open attitude - especially if you have a treat! His trainer says he's never had a dog before who loves treats right off the bat. He starts his full time training on Monday so we'll see if treat motivation makes for easy training ;)  My guess is yes.

"I'm already in love with Quinn; he is such a good dog," his trainer says. "He's going to make a great companion in ten weeks!"
