Silly, Goofy Boy

This past week the Greyhounds have spent time working with a different trainer than their primary trainer they were assigned.  This is called swap week.  Zander's alternate trainer was very grateful to get such a sweet boy, not that they all aren't sweet.  LOL

Zander showed no signs of separation anxiety.  Zander's swap week trainer said it was exciting working with him and getting to see the fun tricks he can do, like "catch" and "speak".  He responded to all the basic commands without any problems.  Zander may not be the youngest of retired racers, but he is just as lively and playful as any of them.  Zander loves to have toys tossed around to chase.  He will even toss them around by himself.  Zander can be a very goofy boy!

Zander will be a great addition to any family, big or small.  He's a sweet loving boy and his alternate trainer said his only regret was that he could not spend more time with him.  Zander is ready to meet his new family!

Zander... A Greyt Choice.

Zander has completed all of his requirements to graduate next week! His commands and extras include:  hurry, let's go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, sit, down, stay, bed, jump, leave it, give, speak, whisper and spin. Quite the long list. His trainers have said that he has been a great dog to work and train with. When he first came to the prison he was very unsure about himself and his surroundings. Now he walks, plays and stands with confidence. They have both enjoyed working with Zander and have come to love him. He will be missed by everyone.

Zander will soon be heading to his forever family and home. You have made a greyt choice adding him to your family!  Good luck in your new life Zander.

Zander is the Man

It's been another great week for Zander! He does all of his commands for anyone. He's learned "whisper" and "spin" this week and now he's working on "shake." I must say, this dog is dangerously lovable. He is the ultimate pet! He's so loving and has a wonderful personality. He's very silly and so much fun to be around. We'll miss him, but we know he just can't wait to bound straight into your heart forever!

Mellow Man

Zander continues to do great with his basic commands.  He passed this week's show and tell with flying colors.  He also learned how to "catch" his treats when they are gently tossed to him while in the "bed" position.  His extras include: "catch", "speak" and "give".  He enjoys hanging out on the bed in the common area with all the other inmates and dogs, regardless of which trainer brings him out, although he does have a few favorites to get affection from.

Zander is very mellow and laid back, but bring out a squeaky toy and his inner puppy comes out.  This only lasts for a few minutes and then he's back to retirement mode.  Zander is going to be a mellow, well-behaved, loving pet for his forever family.  Enjoy sweet Zander.

Let's Play

Zander's inmate trainer doesn't know what else he can say about this lovable, happy dog.  Zander makes him smile and laugh everyday.  If he's feeling down, all he has to do is take Zander out and play and everything gets washed away.  Zander now plays with his trainer as if he's a dog.  He will get down on all fours and chase each other around.  Zander will pounce all around his trainer with his tail and tongue wagging away!

This week they are working with Zander on "speak", both as a whisper and a regular bark.  He really loves trying out his new voice.  His trainer is also working to teach Zander to "shake".  He knows all of his basic commands.  All verbal and most with hand signals too.  He's a smart boy.

Zander is going to be extremely missed by his trainer.   He is happy for whoever adopts this sweet boy.  Zander is going to make his forever family smile everyday.

Zander Can Catch

This week Zander worked on perfecting his commands. He knows them all well, but his trainer wanted to work more on "stay" with increasing the distance and time. Zander has been spending more time with the other dogs playing and sharing his toys, which he doesn't mind doing.

Zander is also learning to "catch" treats that are tossed to him from a distance. So far he's not very good at it. LOL. Give him another week and he will be a pro at it.

His trainer wishes he could take Zander home. He's the ideal pet. He loves to play for 5 - 10 minutes at a time, then he will lay his head in your lap and wait to be petted. For such a big boy, he is so gentle and loving. And quite the beauty too!  His trainer will definitely miss him when he leaves to go to his forever home.

Perfect Addition To Your Forever Family

It's been another fantastic week with the the lovable Greyhound, Zander!  His trainers worked with him on stairs this week.  Zander goes up and down them without any difficulties.  He also learned the "jump" command this week, as well, and had no problems.

Zander also had his first testing session with the ladies from Second Chance Greyhounds and he performed great!  He did all of his basic commands and was rewarded with a purple "peep" marshmallow treat, which he loved!  Zander's trainer cannot say enough about this special boy.  He's always so loving, friendly and laid back.  He's the perfect pet to add to anyone's home.  Maybe yours?

Mr. Friendly

It's been another great week for Zander and his team. He's learned to sit for his food and toys, how to "leave it," and he loves to walk around the dorm with each member of his team and visit everyone. He does very well off-leash and will walk right by your side and stop every time you stop. Greyhounds sure do love to pretend they're Velcro! He is so friendly, gets along with all the people he meets and all of the other hounds in the program. He has no aggression with toys or food. He loves to play chase and also fetch (a rarity!). He also loves to lay around and be petted, but who doesn't? Zander is an all around great hound and will make any home full of joy with his loving and silly personality.

Settling In To Retirement Life

This has been a great week with Zander.  He is really opening up and is much more comfortable in his new surroundings.  He is a great leash walker.  No pulling.  He always stops and starts when his trainer does.  He also learned "wait", "let's go" and "heel" this week.

Zander discovered toys this week and absolutely loves them!  He will chase them and pick them up in his mouth and shake them like a rag doll.  He will gladly "give" up the toy if asked.  He is such a beautiful and friendly dog and will make a great addition to anyone's forever home.  Could it be yours?

Sweet Boy

Well, it's the start of a new session and one of the trainers has been blessed with a beautiful black male who's almost 5 years old. He's a little shy right now and still trying to get used to his new surroundings. He's very gentle, listens well, and his trainer knows he will make a great addition to any family. Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for progress updates on this sweet boy.
