Graduation is Near!

Week 10 is finally here!  Basso has come so far since first coming to us.  Basso is one of the funniest dogs to be around.  Basso has done excellent with all of his commands. He also knows how to learn now.  Just this morning I taught him to jump up. He picked it up so quickly.

Basso can be an active dog. He loves to play and he loves people.  His inmate trainer is excited for his new family and knows he will miss him terribly.

Enjoy him - he's a great dog!

Exchanging Dogs For The Week

Swap week time!  This is the week where inmate trainers exchange dogs to work on training with commands coming from someone other than their primary trainer.  Basso’s alternate inmate trainer says that Bass was excellent.  They spent a couple days allowing Basso to adjust to the change and become comfortable.  Once comfortable Basso had no problems doing all of his commands!

Basso’s alternate inmate trainer says that Basso is an energetic guy who is very alert and loves to play and be goofy.  Basso’s trainer didn’t see any signs of aggression with food, but did note that if you try to touch or take his bowl he will try to gulp his food down as quickly as possible.

Basso’s alternate trainer believes that Basso is going to do great with his new family.  He likes to go for walks and enjoys being lazy and lounging in his bed.  He hopes that his new family will enjoy Basso as much as he did!

Responding Without Hesitation

Basso’s inmate trainer says that it’s hard to believe that it is week ten already and that his journey with Basso is coming to an end.  He says that Basso is truly going to be missed!

Basso did a great job with his command test!  He responded to his commands with no hesitation! The “leave it” command is coming along nicely but still needs a little more work.  Every morning Basso and his inmate train spend 5 to 10 mins working on commands then spend about 30 mins playing and having fun.  Basso loves to fetch and catch toys, especially balls.  He doesn’t always like to return the toy, but he’s learning to exchange it for a treat.  His inmate trainer says that sometimes Basso will sling his head back and throw the toy at him as if saying, “here you catch it”.

Basso sleeps with his tongue sticking out and usually forgets to pull it back in when he wakes up. His inmate trainer says that Basso is so cute with such a wonderful personality that he’s sure to make a happy addition to his new family.

Loving and Silly

Basso’s inmate trainer says that Basso is one of the best dogs there is and is a lot of fun to train.  He says that Basso is so loving and silly that you just can’t get enough of him!  He’s always good for a laugh and never causes any problems.  He knows all of his commands and does them with ease.  Sometimes he gets beside himself with excitement when he sees his treats and doesn’t know what do first.  His inmate trainer helps Basso get his focus so that yummy treat can be all his!

Basso’s inmate trainer says that he has no doubt that Basso is going to make some lucky family very happy!

Superman

Well hello there, my name is Basso and as you can see from my photo I’m a strikingly handsome young man.  My inmate trainer says that I’m nosy, but I believe all things in life should be investigated.  I truly enjoy the round rolly ball thing it’s very exhilarating to chase.  My inmate trainer tells me to “leave it” and most of the time I do because I have impeccable manners, but sometimes the object just speaks to me.  You know, pulls me to it like a magnet how’s a guy to ignore that?

Just incase you’re not impressed enough yet (not sure how you couldn’t be) I thought I’d share with you what I know.  I have the following commands down pat like:  hurry, let’s go, kennel, release, wait, heel, here, sit, down, stay, bed and jump.  Oh yeah, I’m that good.  Maybe I should talk to SCG about replacing my photo with the image of Superman….

Bringing Out The Happiness

Basso is doing great!  He knows all of his commands and will do them for other people in the dorm.  He likes to grab toys, paper, cups, or any random thing within his reach as he’s walking by.  He will release whatever he’s picked up he just seems to be fascinated with stuff!  His inmate trainer has been working with him on the “stay” command.  Basso likes to follow his trainer wherever he goes so Basso says the “stay” seems like a total waste of bonding time.

Basso’s inmate trainer says that Basso is fun and likes any toy that’s a ball or makes noise.  He believes that Basso is going to bring happiness to some lucky family.

All Around Great Boy

Things are going really good with Basso!  His inmate trainer says that Basso is fun, smart, gentle and very easy to be around.  He has all of his commands down, but sometimes playing just sounds like a better idea.  He is still a little slow responding to: wait, heel, here, sit, stay, and jump. Basso understand the requests and his inmate trainer believes that he will be confident and responding well to these commands in no time.

Basso loves to play and exercise with the other dogs in the big yard.  He plays well with the other dogs and enjoys playing with toys.  Attention from humans also tops his list of favorite things. His inmate trainer says that Basso is an all around great dog.  He’s easy going with the cutest goofy side.

Exploring A Whole New World

Basso is doing great adjusting to his new environment and training is coming along rather nicely.

Basso loves to explore everything and learning that toys are great fun!  His inmate trainer says that Basso will grab a toy shake it then throw it in the air and jump up to catch it.  They’ve been working on the “leave it” and “give” commands lately to make toy play fun for the humans too. Sometimes he’d rather keep the toy and not give it to his trainer, but he’s learning that sharing is fun and rewarding – a yummy treat reward at that!

Basso loves people and is a fun loving dog who's great to be around.  His inmate trainer is enjoying his time with Basso and he believes that Basso is going to make a wonderful companion for some lucky family!

Happy and Playful

Basso is a happy and playful boy!  He likes to play with toys and chew bones.  He loves to be around people and other dogs.  He hasn’t shown any aggression and doesn’t mind sharing his toys or space with humans or dogs.  His inmate trainer says that Basso is smart and very easy going.  He can have a short attention span, but once he’s got it he’s good to go.

He’s doing really well with:  hurry, let’s go, kennel, release and wait.  Sit is a work in progress, but Basso’s inmate trainer believes that he’ll have it figured out soon enough.

What a Boy!

Basso, as he is now known, is doing quite well for a first time detainee at Jenkins Correctional Facility.  He entered the program last Thursday and thus far, is acclimating well.  He is not scared as some can be when they first arrive but is very happy, playful and full of energy. He's strong, not skiddish and, so far, he's not a whiner.

He loves people and food which should make training a piece of cake.  He loves treats but hasn't really scoped out the toy basket yet.  All in good time.

He's interacting well with the other Greyhounds in the program. He wants to play with everyone!

Basso is getting off to a great start. His inmate is looking forward to the coming weeks and working with this wonderful boy!
