Sweet, Gentle Girl

Sandy has had a great week! She knows all of her basic commands and enjoys relaxing in her kennel. She is the sweetest dog her swap week trainer has ever met! She showed no signs of aggression toward anything whatsoever, and she didn't show any signs of separation anxiety either. Sandy is going to make an excellent companion for any family. She is so loving and you will fall in love with her as soon as she hops out of the Greyhound-mobile and into your arms!

Such A Sweetheart

Sandy has progressed so well in learning her commands. Now it's time to perfect them.  She is actually a very intelligent hound, even though she can be shy about it.  She has come very far from her first day here.  Just give her a little time to warm up and get to know you and she will be your best friend for life.  There's a constant buzz or chatter during the 10 weeks of training at Jenkins that won't be in her forever home, so get ready to see her relax and unwind. Sandy will make such a wonderful, peaceful addition to your family - get ready to meet sweet Sandy!

Loving Retirement

Sandy continues to do well with her basic command training and goes up and down the stairs really well! She is also becoming less and less shy and will actually approach people for attention.  She still prefers things to be nice and quiet.

Sandy’s inmate trainer is still working to trigger her interest in toys, but so far she’s not found the one that sparkles and grabs her attention.  She would actually rather spend her free time lounging around and relaxing.  Besides, this IS retirement.  Her inmate trainer says that the only time she gets excited is when they go to the big yard for exercise.  She loves to run!  He says that she’s one of the fastest greyhounds in this session.  Her inmate trainer says that it’s wonderful watching her open up and have so much fun!

Gentle sprinter

Sandy is a very calm and sweet dog, and although she came in shy and nervous, she has been opening up more and more with each week of training and loving. Her team's primary trainer has developed such a deep bond with her, as he spends more time with her than anyone. She's still a shy little girl, but she's getting practice with trusting a secondary trainer.

She is such a delightful, gentle hound and she LOVES her running time. Her training team is still trying to crack the case of what motivates this mysterious gal, but that could soon change once she becomes more comfortable and more of her personality comes out. So be sure to check back next week - you don't wanna miss any milestones!

You've Come A Long Way Sandy

This week marks the half way point since Sandy arrived at the Second Chance Greyhounds Academy at Jenkins.  She has come a long way.  She did well with her commands at the weekly show and tell.  Her trainer will be working with her on "down", "heel" and "stay".  These need improvement, but there's plenty of time to get them to perfection before graduation day.

Sandy is venturing out in the dorm and going up to other people for some attention, which she would not do at all when she first arrived.  She is a great leash walker and never pulls ahead and is always right by your side.  You will enjoy taking this girl on walks.

Playing with toys is not Sandy's forte.  They have tried every toy in the box with not luck.  Maybe next week will be the week she starts to play.  Sandy is as quiet a a mouse in her kennel.  Her trainer said he sometimes has to check to make sure she's still in there.  Sandy is going to make someone a great companion, friend and pet.

Running for Fun

Sweet Sandy is making slow but very steady progress, each day becoming more comfortable with her surroundings and her training sessions. Today she and her trainer went out into the hallway and practiced her stair climbing. She went up and down several times after a shaky start, but had the rhythm after a little practice.

Sandy loves to go out on the big yard to run. One of her running buddies is a big guy named JD. The really enjoy running together and Sandy has no problem keeping up with him! They even race side by side and it is such a joy to watch them play together.

One of the coolest things about these dogs is the therapeutic benefit they provide for their trainers. Bonding with Sandy has been a priceless experience for her trainer, and helps him out with his life and letting him be a benefit to you, the future human companion of Sweet Sandy!

Sandy = Happiness

Sandy is doing really well!  The secondary and alternate inmate trainers have stepped in and started helping with dog runs and feeding.  Sweet Sandy has adjusted nicely to this change.  She loves to run in the big yard!  Last week it rained really hard creating a small pond in the volleyball court and Sandy loved it.  She romped around in the water and played ball while splashing around having a great time.

She continues to make steady progress with her basic commands and enjoys the treat rewards that come with it.  Her inmate trainer says that she’s a joy to be around and will bring happiness to her new home.

Sweetie Pie

Sandy is slowly settling in more and more every day. She is a shy girl and at first was unsure of her new surroundings. But the past week has been much better for her - she has gotten a lot more used to the group of people here, and all of the new noises, sights and smells that I'm sure are the polar opposite of anything she has ever experienced before in her life! She has been working on "sit" and is on the verge of following through and sitting on her own already! And it's only week two. By the end of the session, she'll probably be writing sonnets.

She has also been working on her leash walking, which she does so much better than when she first arrived. She has been learning the "bed" command very well - she will lay on the bed in the day-room area as well as the bed in her kennel at feeding time, or when she gets back from play time in the yard. Sandy's trainer looks forward to the weeks ahead and is excited to see how much this sweet girl learns!

It's Me...Sandy

Sandy is adjusting to her strange new world.  There are so many new sights, sounds, smells and people!  Her favorite thing is kicking back and relaxing on her mattress in her kennel.  A girl needs her beauty rest.

She is already doing very well at "wait", "let's go" and leash walking.  She enjoyed her time on the big yard with some of her greyhound buddies, exploring for a little while.  Then she was ready to get back to the a/c and her bed.  A princess needs her comfy bed and cool air.  I'm sure we can all agree on that.    Until next week...
