The Lassie of Greyhounds

Both my daughters are on day 3 of a virus. Nora has practically been beside herself. She reminds me of a mix between Lassie and Nana (from Peter Pan). She has followed Emma (4 years old) around and I had to really work to get her out of the bedroom last night. She knows the girls are sick, and she's right there to be a comfort. I personally think all greyhounds are very perceptive, but this is another level. She walks around and just seems so worried! It's the sweetest thing I've seen. Her personality is perfection. We still have yet to hear her make a peep! She's been wonderful with the stairs and crate. I've fostered quite a few hounds, and love them all. Nora is my favorite so far. She never meets a stranger and is sweet to all the little animals we've seen on walks and in stores. She went on her first Home Depot trip this week, and was a huge hit!  This sweet girl will be an amazing addition to a home with children! She's all ready to be a best friend to a very lucky kid. Her self confidence is a little low due to being moved around a bit, but give her some lovin and she blooms right away!

Emma&Nora

Kid Lover

Nora is one little bundle of love.  She has not been shy at all. She loves to follow my daughters around (4 & 6). She doesn't mind a noisy house at all. If she's down stairs and hears them screaming and running around she trots right up the stairs to get in on the action! She loves fun and can often be found lounging in our play room watching the girls jump on their exercise trampolines. We have yet to hear her make a peep! I have a nanny/hound cam and have watched her while I'm away from the house. She's a perfect angel in her crate! We are refreshing her on her commands and she's doing well. She gets along well with our two hounds, but doesn't seem to really care what they are doing. This leads me to believe that she would do well as a single hound or with others! When my hounds roll around in the grass and sunbathe, Nora just wants to come back in the house. She could be happy in an apartment or a house with a yard. We see cats and small dogs on our walks and Nora ignores them for the most part or glances at them with little interest. She's definitely a Velcro hound. This extra sweet girl could be happy anywhere, especially if there's a tiny human to love her and scratch her ears.

New Beginning

Nora is ready to go to her new home.  Her trainers had a slight snag with her "stay" and "jump" command at the last moment, but they have fixed the issues.  Her inmate trainers feel at this point she has mastered all of her commands.

Nora has very good manners all around.  Keep an eye on her outside, because if she thinks it's edible, she's going to try and eat it.  A firm "leave it" does the trick.

Nora still loves to play and run.  She is so adorable!  Her inmate trainer will miss her greatly, but is glad she is going to a good home.  She is going to make her adoptive parents very happy.  Her inmate trainer wishes you and Nora a wonderful relationship!

New Home. Here I Come!

Nora is doing very well and is excited about meeting her new family next week!  She knows all of her commands, and the senior trainers will be running through them this week in preparation for her final testing.  Her inmate trainer is sure she will pass with flying colors.

Nora's inmate trainer is really going to miss her.  Her leaving is bitter sweet.  He is happy she is going to a good home, but sad that his time together with her is at an end.  She has been a joy to work with and he is very thankful for the opportunity to do something so positive.  Go get 'em Nora!  Your new family is going to love you!!

Attention Seeker

Nora is doing very well with her training.  She struggles a little bit with the "stay" command, but who wouldn't when you are trying to patiently wait for a treat.  It sometimes gets the better of you.  She is also doing commands for her secondary trainer so she gets used to taking commands from other people.

Nora is totally adorable!  She craves attention and is content to be petted on and loved on as much as anybody wants.  Her inmate trainer feels she would be a great therapy dog because of her sweet and patient personality.  Her inmate trainer says Nora is a wonderful dog and the time he has spent with her has been an absolute joy.  He is going to miss her.

People Pooch

Nora has mastered leash walking and the basic commands that go along with it (wait, heel, let's go and release).  Her inmate trainer is currently working on the "stay" command.  It is still a work in progress, but she is showing great improvement.

Nora loves playing with people very much!  She will follow wherever you go.  She doesn't want to miss a thing.

The more she is around the other dogs during play time, the more she cuts loose and has a great time.  She will do great in any home, with or without dogs.

One Amazing Girl

Nora continues to show great progress in her training.  She now “sits” and “downs” on command. Her inmate trainer plans to begin working on the “stay” and “here” commands.  He says that the “here” command will not be a problem because Nora is always attached to his hip, but the “stay” command may prove to be more of a challenge.

Nora’s inmate trainer says that he believes that Nora’s forever family will be quite please with this amazing girl!

The Pampered Pooch

Nora continues to progress in her training.  She sits on her own now, of course, with a treat.  From the sitting position, she will go into a down position every time her inmate gives her "down" command. He plans to continue working to perfect the sit command and work on "down" from an upright position.

She still runs on the big field twice a day and seems to enjoy that time although it's never for very long.  She loves playing with her inmate and just being with a person.  They walk the track around the field which she enjoys. After playtime, they work on training in sessions that are 10-15 minutes each.

She is a very sweet dog to both people and the other Greyhounds in the program.  She shows no aggression when playing with toys or when approached while she is eating.  She had a bath the other day which she seemed to really like.  She knew she was being pampered and she was soaking it in!

The Complete Package

Nora's training is progressing nicely.  She is learning the "sit" and "down" commands.  She is not sitting on her own yet, her trainer has to scoop her to get her to sit.  She is making good progress though and will soon have it figured out.  Her inmate trainer will move on to "stay" and "here" later this week.

She loves playing with squeaky toys, any one that makes noise will do.  She also enjoys running with her other greyhound friends, and chasing her inmate trainer when he runs around outside.  She's such a happy girl that has a gentle and sweet nature.  She is the complete package for a great companion and addition to any home.  How can you resist?

Off To A Good Start

Nora is progressing with her training very well and she has adjusted to her new environment nicely.  She walks on a leash well.  She knows "wait", "bed", "let's go" and "heel".  Her inmate trainer is also working on "sit" and "down" and feels she will have those commands mastered in a couple of weeks.

Nora is a sweetheart.  She is very well mannered, and very friendly to people and other dogs.  She had an upset stomach this past week, but was able to communicate with her trainer that she had to "hurry",  badly, and held it until they were outside.  What a good girl.

She loves to play with squeaky stuffed animals and balls.  She is extremely energetic for about five minutes and then she is ready to lay down.  She did go for about a 1/2 mile jog with her trainer, and jogged right beside him.  She had a great time.

Nora worked on stairs this week and had no problems with them.  Check back next week for Nora's progress.

Outgoing And Friendly

What a joy Nora has been for her inmate trainer, since she arrived at the prison!  She is such a sweet and friendly dog, and a beauty with her brindle coat.  She is outgoing with all of the inmates and guards, and seems to get along with all of the other dogs too.  She is coping with her new environment well, so she will adjust to her new home and her adopting family with ease.

For the past few days her inmate trainer has been working on Nora's leash manners.  She has shown vast improvement in just a few days.  He is also working with Nora on the "heel" and "wait" commands.  She is doing pretty well with the "wait" command.  She "waits" in doorway thresholds, but needs correction at the door going outside.  She is a little slow with "heel", but it's early and she will have them mastered in no time.

Next week her inmate trainer will work with Nora on "sit" and "down".  Stay tuned, until next week...
