Social Butterfly

Well, this week was swap week and Magpie spent a week with her secondary trainer. This beautiful greyhound was an absolute joy to have. She is very friendly and is always happy to meet people. She knows all of her commands and loves to play with toys. She has lots of energy, but after five minutes of playing she calms right down. She is a little possessive of toys but will give them up with a little encouragement.

She has no aggression towards other dogs or over her food. She had no difficulty being away from her team. She did occasionally whine to come out of the kennel but that seemed to be for playing or for fear of missing out on the activities around her, since her normal kennel is in a high traffic area with plenty of people to smile at. And she calmed right down on command. Whoever is getting this Greyhound for their forever pet is in for a real treat!

Precious Grey

Magpie is super cute and loving companion.  Her inmate trainer said his time with Magpie has been exciting to say the least.  She gets very excited to go outside and run on the big yard.  She is also smart and easy to teach new tricks.  This is very fun for her, especially when her reward is a toy!  She absolutely loves tennis balls to play with, so her new family may want to stock up on a few for this precious girl.

This week has been a laid back week for Magpie and her trainer.  She knows all of her basic commands and loves performing them for everyone.  Next week is swap week and her trainer is going to miss her while she's gone.  He knows she will do great for the "swap week" trainer.

Magpie is such a adorable loving greyhound.  Her inmate trainer knows she will make a greyt addition to her forever family.

Ready to Steal Your Heart

This week Magpie and her trainer reviewed all of her commands and got ready for swap week. Whoever gets Magpie is one lucky duck and sure to be pleased by how well she behaves and performs her commands. She gets a little excited around new people that she hasn't met before, but calms down pretty fast. Her trainer exercises her every morning after 7am, then starts their busy day. They had testing on Saturday with Miss Patti and some other folks from Second Chance Greyhounds, and they were all pleased with Magpie's performance.

Then, they got to go play in the big yard and run. And how cool is this: they celebrated the 8th birthday of Second Chance Greyhounds! Magpie's classmate Adonis is the 500th greyhound to come through SCG - that's how long they've been doing this! They had group photos taken, so be sure to look for Magpie!

Playtime Fun

Magpie and her trainer are working on improving her commands.  She knows them well, but he is working on her response time.  They are doing them with hand signals only and trying to improve on her sit command.  After that, it's playtime, and Magpie loves playtime!  Her trainer introduced her to a blue ball and she absolutely loves it!  He is going to use this to his advantage and work with her on her "give" command.  Magpie does really good most of the time with this, but sometimes she wants to keep the ball all to herself.  She is learning that if she gives up the ball, she gets a treat, if not, no treat and no ball.  She likes her treats so she's catching onto the concept pretty fast.

Magpie is such a sweet, fun-loving girl and will keep you entertained for hours;  Even if most of that time she's napping and dreaming on her new bed!

A Puppy At Heart

This past week Magpie got her Christmas present from her inmate trainer: a big Milk Bone treat! This made her happy as a clam. Her trainer is working with her on commands without treats or petting until the session is done. Then she gets a "good girl!" Then, they play or watch TV together.

Magpie has a good appetite in the morning and at night. She is full of energy and excitement. Some of the greyhounds that come into the program are as old as six or seven, and her trainer has to remember Magpie's comparatively still a puppy!

No Such Thing as a Stranger!

This week Magpie and her inmate trainer worked on "heel" and "let's go." Magpie loooves to be petted, and her trainer pets her as a reward for completing commands. It's really hard because she's such a cutie! You can't help but want to pet her all day.

Magpie likes to watch everything that's going on around her - and watching everyone around her to see who will pet her next! There is no such thing as a stranger to her.

Almost half of the training session is over, and time has gone by so fast. Magpie and her trainer will keep on fine tuning her commands until it's time for her to join your family!

Alert And Ready To Learn

Magpie and her trainer focused on the "sit" and "stay" commands this week.  These are two very important commands.  He wants her to have them down to a "t" when she goes to her forever home, and he's positive she will.

Magpie is very motivated when it comes to exercising on the big yard.  She loves to run and play with all of her Greyhound friends. She is usually the last one to come in from playing and the first one to find her bed for a good nap.

The good folks from SCG came for a visit and Magpie did well on her testing and was very well behaved for her guests.  She loved the treats Ms. Patti brought and hopes she brings more on her next visit.

Magpie loves to be loved on and adored.  She is always looking at her trainer to see what's next.  She gets along great with all dogs and people.  After a full belly, she loves to be pampered with ear scratches, a belly rub or two and a good teeth brushing.  Quite a pampered pooch.  Whoever adopts this sweet girl is in for a real treat!

Curious Girl

Magpie is her name, and playing with squeaky toys is her game! Magpie is a very active dog until she wears herself out. Then it's time to sleep, a classic Greyhound favorite activity.

Magpie loves playing in the yard and is friendly to people as well as the other dogs here. She is a calm and laid-back girl who loves going on walks. Her trainer has been working on "heel," "here," "stay," "let's go" and "wait" and she knows those commands fairly well so far. This past week she was learning "sit" and "down."

Magpie is a very watchful dog, paying attention to everything that's going on around her. That watchful quality also helps her with commands and she knows the hand signals for most of her commands so far! She just needs a little more time to master the hand signals for "release" and "let's go." Magpie is a gentle soul who would make any family happy.

Eager To Please

Magpie is getting along great in the prison.  She isn't shy at all and is adapting well to her new environment.  She is energetic and very attentive.  She absolutely loves affection and praise!  Her trainer plans to use this to his benefit as a reward during her training.

Magpie's inmate trainer has been working on "wait", "heel", "here" and her name.  She is a very smart dog and seems to catch on quickly.  She is off to a great start on her training.  Magpie seems to enjoy learning and she is eager to please.  Her trainer is really looking forward to working with Magpie.
