One Smart Boy

Duckie’s trainer said this has been a rough week knowing that he is getting ready to leave.  It is filled with both heartache and happiness.  Duckie has made his trainer’s time there much easier.

Duckie knows the “Kennel” command, but isn’t a fan of it. He is a really smart boy.  He has learned seven extra commands, “I Love You”, “speak” and “Whisper” are just a few of these.  He’s one smart boy and your are going to love him.

Duckie is an amazing boy and will be missed.

Leaving Soon

Duckie’s time at Pulaski is coming to an end very soon. This past week his trainer was in her room with Duckie’s head in her lap and it hit her that he will be leaving soon. It was a bittersweet moment, because Duckie has come so far and will soon go on to bigger and better things…A forever home and family.

Duckie learned a new trick this week. You hide a treat in your hand and he taps the hand with the treat in it with his paw. He’s a smart dog. His trainer plans to spend the last weeks working on areas Duckie needs it the most and just spending time with this amazing boy.

Loves the Rain

Duckie swapped trainers this week, and his new trainer is very impressed by how much he knows.  With all the rain they had this week, we learned that Duckie absolutely loves playing in the rain (although he doesn’t like being dried off).

Duckie is doing fantastically with all of his commands; the only one he is really hesitant with is “kennel”.  His new trainer says that his previous trainer has done a fantastic job with him, and describes Duckie as a very happy and energetic boy.

Play Chase

Duckie is continuing to do great with his training and learning all of his commands. He has a bunch of energy in the morning after a good nights sleep and loves to play with the other dogs. He also still loves to play with his trainer and chase her around the yard.

Duckie always knows when it’s dinner time. He is very food motivated, which is great for his training. He is still working on “Stay” and “Heel”, but has mastered the rest of his commands.

Running Partner

Duckie has been doing amazing this week! He loves to follow his trainer everywhere. He is still very close to his roommate, Delta, and treats her like a little sister. He got a new toy this week that he just loves, but he also still loves cuddling and laying in front of the fan. When he goes running outside he likes to run behind his trainer, and bump her with his nose to get her to go faster. They are working on training him to run beside someone instead of behind them.

Full of Life

Duckie has just been a ball of energy this week. His training is going very well, and when he gets to go outside he loves to run. He has gotten a lot better with climbing up and down the stairs. He also did very well this week when he got his nails trimmed. He loves to cuddle with his trainer, but is not a fan of sharing his bed with the other greyhounds. He is doing great with his commands. He knows most of his basic commands well. They are working on improving “down” and “stay”. He’s also learned a few extras.

He's a Natural

Duckie had his first opportunity to run around outside this week, but decided he preferred chasing and playing with his trainer. Duckie is very energetic in the mornings, but gets sleepy and a little pouty at around 8:30 at night.

He is an energetic dog and a very fast learner. It seems like he naturally picks up on what his trainer wants him to do. His energy level can lead to him being easily distracted, but he is incredibly treat-motivated so it is easy to regain his attention.

Ice Ice Baby

Duckie is adapting very well to his new environment at Pulaski.  He loves meal time, and likes to have warm water and ice cubes mixed in with his food.  Then he’ll take pieces of ice cube out of his bowl and play with them instead of eating.  When he is playing with his toys he will growl and bark quietly to himself, keeping himself fully entertained.  He is a very playful and energetic dog, but he also loves to sit quietly and cuddle with his trainer.

Duckie and his trainer are currently working on the commands “Bed”, “Kennel”, “Wait”, and “Release”.  He knows each of these commands pretty well, but takes a little time to respond to them. He’s learning so quickly, he’s going to be responding to these commands right away in no time!

A Great First Week

Duckie got a bath his first day at Pulaski and then slept through the night without any crying or whining. Since then he’s been spending his days lounging on the big fluffy beds, prancing around, playing with his new friend Delta, and cuddling with his trainer. Duckie loves to run around in the mornings, and also loves peanut butter and ice cubes. This spunky pup has had a great first week of training!
