Here comes a special boy!

This is Thrash’s last weekend, and it has been wonderful for his trainer. Thrash has nailed everything he has been taught and he is just so fun to be around. His trainer knows he will always be talking about Thrash in the days to come! Thrash’s trainer is so thankful that he got to play such a significant role in helping him get adopted and ready for his forever family. He said that if he were out of prison, and had an opportunity to adopt an animal, it would be Thrash - hands down! (Or paws down?)

Thrash is just super cool and has the best doggy personality there is! Working with him has helped his trainer so much more than he thought it would, and he plans on getting out and finding a deeper passion with dogs than he already has. Thrash touched his heart and he wants to help greyhounds as soon as he’s out of the joint! How cool is this program?!

A special message from Thrash’s trainer: take careThrash, and may you be adopted by a loving family, buddy! You are a good friend, long boy!

Here I Am!

This week was swap week. This is where another primary trainer has Thrash for the week to see how he does with separation anxiety and obedience. As expected, Thrash had NO problems with either. After all, he is one of the friendliest, easy-going and eager to please dogs he has ever met!

During show and tell he scored perfect “10”s” for all his basic commands and he’s doing well with his extra “fun” commands too (bow, bounce and spin). He’s very gentle when playing with toys and definitely enjoys laying on his dog bed outside the kennel, just hanging out with people. He has never met a stranger and is ALWAYS eager to say hello to anyone that walks his way.

All of this leaves his “swap week” trainer very confident that Thrash will be a wonderful pet and loving member of his forever family. They will be very blessed to have him.

Paw massages please

Thrash as always given 110%. Is a happy, playful and spoiled boy. He likes his the spot in-between his toes rubbed!

His inmate trainer says that it’s been an honor knowing that he’s been a part of Thrash’s training. He doesn’t mind being hugged and loved on.  He says that he’ll always remember Thrash even after he’s graduated.

His inmate trainer says that this program has really inspired him.  He now has an idea for his future and he wants to become more involved with rescue dogs and retired greyhounds.  Thrash has motivated him from day one.  He wants others to see the potential in rescue dogs.  He hopes that Thrash goes to a very loving home and finds much happiness in his retirement days!

America's Next Top Greyhound!

Thrash never ceases to amaze! He is constantly meeting and then breaking expectations In addition to his unparalleled mastery of the 13 basic commands, he has also added two extras to his arsenal of people-pleasing party tricks! Thrash perfected spin and bow in such a short period of time that he left his trainer in the ever exciting predicament of finding a few more extras to teach him before the session is over! I wonder what they will be…

As far as his personality is concerned, you would be hard pressed to find another dog with a better attitude and temperament than Thrash. He is by far one of the best behaved dogs who has walked through the doors at Second Chance Academy, and he has been a joy to train. On top of all that, he is a perfect gentleman when it comes to leash walking. Thrash will make a perfect addition to any family regardless of the makeup. Two old empty nesters? Thrash is your guy! Got a couple of kids? Now they’ve got a new best friend who loves them to the moon and back! Thrash is so gentle; he enjoys playing with two of the smaller female dogs and is so incredibly gentle with them – it is amazing to watch. Thrash is going to make some family out there feel like the luckiest people on EARTH!

He's A Keeper!

First, it should be noted that Thrash is one well mannered and affection boy. He enjoys spending time with the humans and other Greyhounds. Playtime and running with his buddies makes him happy and he’s a lot of fun to watch. His inmate trainer says that just being around Thrash brightens your day.  He’s no trouble grooming or training.  He knows all of his commands and enjoys attention.

This week they started working on hand signal requests into their daily training routine and he’s catching on really quickly!  His trainer says that he’s looking forward to seeing what Trash figures out next!

Your Lucky Star

Thrash is continuing to do extremely well as week five comes to a close. He knows all of his basic commands very well and his training team is planning on teaching him some extras in the coming weeks. Thrash has become an expert on traversing the dreaded stairs. He goes up and down them like he was born to do it! Thrash has also begun to play with toys over the past two weeks, and although he doesn't go buck wild for them, he does enjoy lying around on a bed and chewing on them. Thrash is an absolute pleasure to train and is by far his trainer's favorite pupil - and the lucky family who chooses to adopt this guy will thank their lucky stars every day that they did!

Paw Massages, Perhaps?

Since Thrash has been at Jenkins, he has adapted very well and gets along great with the other greyhounds in his class. Whoever adopts Thrash is going to have TOO much fun! He loves getting his ears scratched, especially right at the base of his ear, and also loves to have his paws rubbed! Training Thrash has been such an amazing experience - he already knows all of his commands, and has the potential to learn many more. Thrash’s trainer is having a blast training him and knows you’ll have a blast becoming his new forever family!

Attention Hound

Thrash is continuing to do extremely well as we come to a close on another week. He has a firm grasp on all of the basic commands and never ceases to amaze his trainer on his swift ability to learn. They worked with Thrash on “jump” for the first time this week and within 3 attempts he was doing perfect. Zero hesitation. His trainers also worked with him on stairs. Thrash did very well with that as well. He was beginning to do it on his own towards the end of the training session with only a bribe as motivation.

Thrash is an incredibly sweet and handsome young boy. His trainer has not seen any aggressive behaviors whatsoever. The other day another dog was standing over him, chewing on his leg, etc. and he was playing right back. He seems very tolerant of other dogs and absolutely loves attention from people. Thrash will make a wonderful addition to any family. Could you be the lucky family?

Most Handsome Hound Alert!

Thrash’s progression has been absolutely astounding over the past two weeks! He is such an incredibly smart young hound, and don’t even get me started on his striking looks! Can you say handsome with a capital H?! Dogs like Thrash are the reason Egyptian royalty kept them for pets instead of other breeds.

To top off what a perfect gentleman he is, Thrash is great at leash walking - one crazy awesome heel command included! He has been working on sit for the past week or so and is starting to catch the hang of it. He still requires a lure at this point, but will perform the command without the necessity of a scoop the majority of the time. He will have his stubborn moments on occasion and act like he doesn’t know what his trainer is talking about, but they both know better than that - Thrash, you KNOW what to do, buddy!

Thrash is a huge fan of morning turn-out and boy is he fast! He loves running free but will come scampering back as soon as he’s all tuckered out. He doesn’t seem to be too interested in toys quite yet, but that may change as he continues to get more and more comfortable.

Until next time, Thrash says see ya!

Retirement Is Wonderful!

Man oh man.  Where do I start… Well, first off, my name's Thrash.  And second,  some guy told me I needed to write an update on how I’m doing so far this week.   He said It's going to be posted on the internet.  Whatever that is.  Well here goes...  Update number one.  Send HELP!  I thought I was retiring.  At least that’s what they told me at the track! I do believe I was duped.  It feels as though I’ve been enlisted into some kind of Canine Correctional Camp!   On the day of my supposed retirement, they put me into this big metal box on wheels.  We drove for what seemed to be hours and then finally arrived at our destination.  Second Chance Greyhounds Academy!    I got a bath, towel dried off, ears cleaned, nails trimmed, checked for fleas and ticks and got weighed. I have to admit, I actually enjoyed it.

I have this human that is like my butler.  He brings me food twice a day and feeds it to me.  I don’t even have to get out of my bed.  Come to think of it, he actually wants me to stay in my bed) (kennel).  He always seems to know when I need to use the bathroom and accompanies me outside to clean up after me.   A butler that cooks and cleans for me.  It can't get better than that!

My butler (trainer) said I’m going to be here about 10 weeks and that I’m going to learn stuff in the meantime.  He says I’m a smart boy and I'm great on the leash.  I don’t think he realizes I’m just keeping him close in case I need anything, like a treat or a nice belly rub.  It’s a pretty sweet set up.  I’ll have to tell you all about it.  For now… Thrash over-n-out
