Prepare your heart

Well here we are in week 10 of Nico's time with her training team! They can't believe it's time for her to leave, because she has been such a complete joy to spend time with and take care of. They are sorry to see her go, but happy for her to get to go to her forever home where she can get love and give love to and from her family that will never falter, only grow. You will love her so much! She is very smart, too smart sometimes. Especially when she gives you that look telling you that she knows exactly what you're saying. You will see how smart and funny she can be as soon as you get her. She has a great personality and can be very silly whenever she wants to. She responds to kindness rather than sternness when you want her to do anything for you. The more accepted that she feels by you, and the more approval that she feels from you, the more you'll see her big heart and her loving personality. She is a healthy, beautiful greyhound, and you won't be able to help but love her immediately.

Lover of Toys, Treats & Attention

Week 9 means Swap Week has arrived and it’s time for the inmates to swap hounds and see how they do with commands from alternate handlers.

Nico did great!  Her alternate inmate trainer says that she’s a big girl who is gentle and beautiful. She was easy to walk on the leash, always friendly to the other inmates and staff.  She loves going outside and running with her pals.  He tail wags with happiness every day.  He said that you normally only have to request something of her once; twice at the most.

Watching her play with toys is fun and heartwarming.  You toss a toy and she’ll run and get it.  She loves treats, toys, and attention.  Her alternate inmate trainer believes that her new forever family is going to enjoy having Nico in their lives!

A Special Place in Your Heart

Another good week for Nico! All TENS for her commands during show and tell this week, which is kind of a misnomer, if you think about it, because it's all show and no tell. For those who don't know, show and tell is a once-per-week status report where the trainers get up in front of the whole dorm and run their dogs through all of the basic commands. They're graded on the way they give the commands and how well the dogs respond. All tens means that Nico not only did all the commands correctly, but she also nailed all the little details like not breaking a command too early, or being perfectly straight on the heel. This was the first time she got all tens this session!

This means that her trainer knows that she can do them all, so now she just has to keep them sharp until the final test. It also means that they can use the remaining time to try some other more advanced commands and tricks. That should be really fun!

This upcoming week is swap week, so Nico will be going to another trainer in another part of the dorm. This is like a trial run for the big move to her forever home in a few weeks. It's only one week, but her trainer says he already misses her!

Happiest Girl Around

Hey there in greyhound fan land! Nico's trainer has lots of tell you about another fun-filled week spent with Nico. As he's told you before, she is a very healthy, beautiful greyhound. If someone out there wants a fine-looking animal, she's a great-looking greyhound who checks that box. When you take her out for a walk and she is feeling happy, she holds her head high and prances like a thoroughbred horse. When she prances, you can really see her happiness shining through and it will make you want to smile yourself. She loves people and you can see how much she lights up when it's time to meet a new person that she hasn't met yet. To Nico, every new person is just a friend waiting to happen.

Nico is always calm and well-behaved despite how excited she gets around new people. When her trainer takes her on the big yard, she likes to run around for about a hundred yards and then she just wants to walk around and enjoy the day. In the toy room, she jumps around throwing her toy this way and that and catching it over and over again. All you have to do is watch, because she is fast enough to throw her own toy for herself and then run to catch it. It is a real sight to see, and it’s antics like these that are sure to bring a smile to your face and joy to your heart.

Infinite Joy

Well hello again, fellow greyhound lovers! We have another report on Nico's progress. As we've told you before, she is a super beautiful greyhound. She is very healthy and has a lustrous coat that is very soft, and she loves getting attention. She calms down easily and is very easy to manage in any situation. She's very lovable to all people when out in public, being walked, and even on potty breaks. She is always quiet and calm indoors and in her kennel, but when you take her in the toy room she really comes alive! Her eyes light up and she is just so funny to watch while she plays with her toys. You are going to love having her as a part of your family. She is really great in all ways. She's so smart and almost has all of her commands 100% mastered. She has no fear of climbing stairs, either! She has been such a joy for all of the trainers at Jenkins and her trainer knows that she will be a joy to you.

Happiness Guaranteed

Nico has been a bundle of joy from day one. She is a very smart, beautiful and calm girl, with a sweet personality. She loves people and all the attention they give her, like being petted and scratched behind the ears. She is so easy to love.

Nico loves to play with toys and there’s no doubt she will make you laugh as she jumps around tossing her toy and catching it. Her training is going well. She knows hurry, let’s go, kennel, release, wait, here, stay and bed well. She’s a little slow to respond to heel, sit, down, jump and leave it, but her trainer is working extra hard on these. He’s sure she will know them well by graduation day.

Nico is a true blessing and you will be glad you chose her to be your forever friend. She is guaranteed to bring you happiness!

Curious Cutie

There are so many good things to say about Nico, but the best thing about her is that she's so laid-back and easygoing. It's a nice change of pace from her trainer’s last few dogs who had a lot of energy. That's not to say that Nico is a pushover; she can be very opinionated on things that affect her, like which direction should we go! But for the most part, she's very accepting of things as they come.

Nico loves meeting new people, dogs, and just about anyone and anything. With everybody she comes up to, she's ready to be petted. Smells, colors, sounds - for her the world is a palette to sample at every opportunity. Her trainer loves that about her. She's so interested and accepting of everything around her, including her commands which are coming along just dandy. It's been a wonderful session so far!

If You Insist

Oh my gosh! It’s already week three and time is flying by! She’s doing very well with her commands and she also sat on her own today!! Sitting is not her favorite thing to do, so doing it on her own in the third week is greyt! Nico’s trainer has been working with her on sit for quite a while, until finally she gave him this look that said, “oh alright. If it makes you happy,” and she sat down. SUCCESS!! It won’t be long now and she will be sitting like a champ. Next up, they will tackle “down”.

This week Nico got to run on the big yard and her trainer said it was a beautiful sight. She’s very fast and looks so graceful running around with her greyhound buddies. She has the time of her life out there running.

Lazy Days

A good first week is in the books, and a good second week has followed. Nico is adjusting well to her new surroundings. She and her trainer are both still feeling each other out and getting to know one another. So far, he can tell Nico is very smart and loves to eat. She’s not a super fast eater like most greyhounds, she savors every bits. She really likes all kinds of treats and kibble. It’s a good thing, because that makes training a lot easier! Other than that, she’s very easy-going and gentle to everyone around her. She never growls at any of the other dogs or trainers. She’s a sweet, sweet girl!

Training is going well and she is progressing with all of her commands, exactly where she should be at this point in the session. Her trainer is looking forward to getting to know her better and seeing what she can do!

One-of-a-kind

Here we are at the start of a new session! We have a beautiful red brindle female who we have named Nico. Nico is sweet and gentle. A little on the shy side, but that could easily change as it's only been a few days and she needs time to adjust to her new surroundings. She loves treats and her trainer can already tell she will be motivated by them to learn her commands.

She's a good walker and doesn't pull on the leash and go bonkers like some new dogs do sometimes. There's always a learning curve, but she will learn fast. Her trainers are really looking forward to getting to know Nico better. She has a great personality and seems very smart. Next week training starts in earnest. The name game comes first, while they continue to practice leash walking, wait, and heel. Nico is her trainer’s 12th greyhound, and he always loves it when he sees something just a little different and new with each dog. Nico is her own dog and fits the bill for a one-of-a-kind hound perfectly!
