This Gal is Full of Smiles

Dear future forever Family,

We are happy to say that you will be getting your greyhound soon! Cherub is a great dog who makes you feel better whenever you're feeling down. She makes a bad day good with her love and affection!

In the morning, whenever her trainer gets up, he sees her with her happy smile and big brown eyes. Her shining black coat and great personality light up the room. It's like having a steady drink of joy when she's around. Some mornings, she gets her hair brushed and they can tell she really enjoys it because she looks up and stares at whoever is brushing her. After that, she gets her teeth brushed and she does not mind it at all. Then her trainer walks her for a little minute so she can stretch her legs. They love this morning routine together and soon you will enjoy her love and company as well!

What a Gal!

This week Cherub got to work with a swap week training team. She is a small, black female greyhound and she was an absolute pleasure to have around. She is very sociable and loves to play, and she likes to roam around with great curiosity and impeccable etiquette. Cherub performed her commands and handled the transition very well. She quickly adapted to a new routine and didn't show any signs of discomfort or separation anxiety. It's almost time for you to meet this swell gal for yourself! Are you ready?!

Winner Winner, Treats for Dinner

Dear forever Family,

This past week, Cherub got to spend some quality time with her secondary trainer. When he played with her in the training room, it brought him so much joy. Cherub will wait until you say to go play before she plays, and it really gives you a warm feeling in your heart to know that she's having a great time playing and learning. She likes lying on her bed while the trainers watch TV. Sometimes they'll see her look up and wait until they look back at her (those gorgeous eyes are hard to ignore!), and then sometimes they'll throw her a treat and pet her affectionately. She is so laid-back and calm, not to mention smart as a whip. She is so warm and makes you feel like she is part of your family right off the bat. She will make a great addition to yours, we are sure!

Cherub is a dog that you will be so proud of and love so much. She is great around other dogs and has a more submissive, humble personality. She is sure to fit right in with any family. Until next time!

Cheery Cherub

Cherub is another week closer to going to her forever home!  Her inmate trainer says that he’s going to miss her very much, but knows that she’s going to enjoy her retirement days with her new forever family.

Her inmate trainer says that he will do short training sessions then play hide and seek with her. She already knows all of her basic commands, but he goes over them to keep her sharp. He’s taught her the “go play” command. This is where he’ll toss a toy and she’ll wait to go after it until she’s released. If she’s told “leave it” she’ll drop the toy and return to her trainer.

The Best Around

Hello future greyhound parents! Cherub’s trainer just wants to take a minute to tell you about your new greyhound. Her name is Cherub and she is a very loving dog. Her trainer walks her out on the dog runs and sometimes when he is leash walking her, he lets her get out ahead on purpose. That's so he can tell her to heel and then have her run by his side and look up at him with her big brown eyes. At that point, he knows that she has learned how to obey the heel command and she gets to show off how smart she is. She's going to make you so proud and happy!

Cherub and her trainer spend a lot of time going in and out of the kennel. She knows not to come out until he says release, and she also knows that her kennel is a very safe and fun place for her.

Sometimes her trainer watches her play in the room with toys; she lies down and wags her tail, waiting and excited to play. She is a very loving and playful girl and so much fun. She knows that if you say give, it is time to let go of the toy and lie back until you give her permission to play again. She is a very smart dog and is going to knock your socks off!

Gimme A Little "Kiss"

Cherub’s inmate trainer says it’s been a week full of laugher, joy and happiness.   Cherub has almost mastered all of her basic commands. Her inmate trainer has been teaching Cherub “go play”. It’s a release command and permission to go run freely or play with toys.

Sometimes when they come in from playing outside and she’s really hot, she’ll drink a bit of water then stick her left paw in the water bowl to cool it off too!  Her inmate trainer says it’s very funny, because Cherub strives to be so proper and perfect.

He says that Cherub is incredibly smart and a pleasure to train.  She seems to have a lot of fun while training.  She’s recently learned “kiss” and is happy to leave wet dripping kisses.  She seems proud as punch of herself. Her inmate trainer says he’s very proud of her himself!

Loving and Learning

Dear future forever Family,

Cherub’s trainer has been working with her for 4 weeks now and wants to tell you that he is amazed at how wonderfully smart she is. He works with her a little harder than he normally works with other dogs because she readily welcomes new information. He’s reading a book called A Dog Who is Always Welcome, which is a guide to training assistance and service dogs. There is a part in there that says to teach your dog how to think on their own. So he has been applying that to his training routine, and it's definitely working wonders. Sometimes she will get ahead of him and anticipate what he's going to do next. She is the most attentive dog he’s ever handled, and needless to say, you have an amazing dog coming home to you in a few weeks. He knows that she will impress you with how well-behaved and trained she is, and also how loving she is. Until next week!

Precious Prodigy

Dear Forever Friends,

Let me start by telling you that you have adopted the greatest dog in the world. Cherub is flying through her commands, and may be too darn smart! Everyone in the dorm picks on her trainer because she seems like she was trained even before she arrived. She picks up on things so quickly that he can't help but wonder if someone at the track has worked with her. So far, she has learned all 13 basic commands. It goes something like this: he shows her one time, and then she shows him how many times she can perform it!

Cherub teaches her trainer as much as he teaches her. Her kennel is right beside his bed so every morning he wakes up she is staring right at him with those big pretty eyes. If he had to guess what she was thinking, it would probably be along the lines of, "hey guy, so what are you gonna show me today?! Are you ready?! Let's go! Come on! I'm ready! Can I play with that toy again? Huh, huh, huh, can I?!" This all takes place at about 4:30am, so her trainer is thinking that her first extra command can be "sleep!" Just kiddin'.

Cherub really does have the power to put a smile on her trainer's face every morning, as he knows she'll be doing it for you soon enough. That's all for now, see you next time!

Calm, Collected and Cute as a Button

Dear future adoptive parents,

Welcome to the end of Week 2! This week, Cherub and her trainer have been able to work a little bit more together on commands. So far she has shown nothing short of a wonderful personality. She is very mindful of her surroundings, extremely sweet, and she will give you a look with those floppy ears that will make you smile no matter how hard you try not to! Her trainer is going better than her trainer could have ever expected; She listens very well with anticipation, and even applies most everything she is shown. She had no problem when it came to leash training and picks up on things very quickly.

Everything up to this point is a work in progress, but for her trainer only starting two weeks ago, she’s turning out to be a fast learner. Cherub is the kind of dog who is comfortable no matter what is going on around her. It rained a few days in a row and she just laid in her kennel and slept like a baby.

Cherub’s trainer is really enjoying his time working with her. She is such a beautiful dog with the most gorgeous shiny coat. Whoever the lucky family may be, you’ve picked a perfect pup and you are going to fall in love with her lickety split!

Heavenly Gal

Dear Future Family,

We just wanted to write a few lines to tell you about Cherub, but first let us explain the meaning behind the name. The definition of Cherub is “a winged heavenly being, any of the second order of angels, usually ranked just below the seraphim and better described as excelling in knowledge.” So as you continue reading, you will come to understand why her trainer chose this name. On Thursday, when she came in on the hauler, Cherub was one of the happiest dogs out of the 15 that came. When her trainer got her back to the dorm she was very interested in everything. She greeted everything and everyone with a wagging tail.

So far, Cherub is the happiest dog that her trainer has ever worked with, not to mention the smartest. He has been hand feeding her and using all of his time to create an unbreakable bond. He worked with her on the small things like kennel, release, wait, heel and basic leash walking. She is already so close to mastering them. He just started working on bed and as he wrote his most recent update, she was lying on the bed right beside him in the middle of the day room. He is looking forward to testing her skills over the next nine weeks and will keep you updated on her progress.
