Shining Bright

It’s been 12 weeks, and Jabo is still shining brighter every day.  She is especially active in the mornings and likes to lay around and rest in the evenings.  Jabo’s trainers were especially proud of her routine at final testing, showing off all of her commands and tricks.

Her trainers are going to miss her a lot, but they are excited about her moving to her forever home and wish her a lifetime full of love!

Almost Ready to Go Home

Jabo’s trainer has had another fun week training her.  Jabo loves her “me time” lounging and sleeping, but when it’s training time, she’s ready to go. She has started taking commands from other trainers to see how well she will listen, and she has been doing a great job.

Next week is swap week, where Jabo will work with another trainer to test her knowledge of her commands and get her used to leaving to go to her new home.  Her trainer is confident that she is going to do fantastic!

Super Smart

As Jabo is coming to the end of her time at Pulaski, her trainer has decided to start doing training without the use of treats. She wants Jabo to know to follow commands even if there isn’t a reward waiting for her. So far she’s doing very well with the new training method, although she still gets treats when they’re working on new commands.

Her trainer’s goal is for Jabo to know the 13 basic commands as well as 14 additional tricks by the end of training. She is such a smart dog her trainer has no doubt she’ll meet that goal!

Early Bird

Jabo currently knows all 13 of her basic commands, as well as 9 tricks. She is also in the process of learning 4 new tricks, including how to say “I Love You”, how to pick up her toys, and how to retrieve her leash on command. Jabo’s trainer says she will take commands from anyone and is very obedient. She trains well alone or with other dogs, and some of the other dogs follow her lead when they are training together. She is definitely a pack leader!

Jabo has a lot of energy in the mornings, so her trainers recommend a short run, long walk, or lots of play time to wear her out first thing in the morning so that she is chill the rest of the day. Her trainers say if she gets her exercise in the morning, by the afternoon she is just a big couch potato.

Party Time Fun!

This week was Jabo’s birthday and she and her trainers had a blast. Jabo and her friends had a birthday party with hats for her greyhound friends, a bone cake and lots of love and fun for everyone.

Jabo is a very happy dog that loves to jump around and play. She’s very treat motivated and listens well, so training has been very easy. She loves to have a job and something to do during the day to occupy her time, when she isn’t training. She loves to play hide and seek, either looking for her trainer or treats. She loves to find them. Treats or loving is her reward.

Training is going great! Jabo knows her basic commands and a list of extras. These are: bang bang, spin, paws up, shake, bow, hide-n-seek and show me love. I wonder what this cutie pie will learn next.

Jabo is a man or woman’s best friend. She can sense when you’re happy or just having a bad day. Jabo will brighten up anyone’s day and put a smile on your face.

Birthday Girl!

Jabo’s trainer says that this week with her has been a blast! First they reviewed the commands she’d already mastered, then they moved on to newer commands. Jabo has mastered “sit” this week, but her trainer says she doesn’t sit the normal way facing forwards; she shifts herself to the side. Her trainer calls it “sitting like a lady”. She’s also learned an extra command this week: if you say “bang bang”, she’ll roll over and play dead.

Her trainer describes Jabo as a triple threat: Active, Attentive, and Alert. She says this makes her a dream to train. Overall she is a very smart, happy, playful, and high-speed dog. She has started playing “hide & seek” with her trainer, where her trainer will hide somewhere and Jabo gets a treat for finding her. Jabo turned 3 on July 20th, and her trainers made sure the day was a special one for her!

A Fan of the Fan

Her trainer says that this week with Jabo has been a blast! She has mastered the commands “bow”, “shake”, “here”, “stay”, “wait”, “let’s go”, “bed” and “kennel”. Jabo didn’t like the stairs when she first arrived, but now she tries to race her new playmates up and down every day.

She also wasn’t a huge fan of toys initially, but now she loves to chew on a squeaky chicken and is learning how to play fetch. When she’s not playing, Jabo enjoys lying around and being a couch potato. She likes to lie underneath the fan, especially when she’s just come in from running.

Together she and her trainer are still working on the commands “heel”, “release”, “sit” and “jump”. Stay tuned for more to come with Jabo!

Here Birdie, Birdie, Birdie

It’s Week 2, and Jabo has come along very well and is continuing to adjust to the new environment. Jabo loves to sleep, but when she’s awake she’s an active girl; she’s been enjoying chasing the birds she can see in the yard.  Her trainer says she also loves to meet new people.

Jabo’s trainer describes her as very quick to learn because of how attentive she is and how well she listens.  She has already learned to climb the stairs and how to “shake”, and they are continuing to work on sitting and down.  Her trainer just loves working with this very good dog!

Playful Girl

Jabo’s trainer says she was the calmest and quietest dog their first night there, but she woke up excited and ready to explore! She loves to jump, run, and play like a puppy, but she also likes to sit with her trainer and watch TV.  She is very good while being groomed, and enjoys having her teeth brushed and ears cleaned.  She has even let her trainer play dress-up with her.

Jabo responds well to treats and attention from her trainer, although so far she hasn’t shown much interest in toys.  She already knows “kennel”, “bed”, “here”, “wait”, and “stay” and is working on “sit” and “down”.  With her patience and playfulness Jabo’s trainer knows she will make an excellent family dog.
