Ernie's The Man

Hey Ernie fans! It was final testing and Ernie passed with flying colors. He even did great with counter surfing. The trainers had a table with toys and food on it and Ernie did not even try to get anything off of it. He’s such a good boy!

Ernie loves for his neck to be rubbed. For special treats, he likes popcorn and marshmallows. Ernie has come a long way and his trainers have enjoyed getting to work with him. They are going to miss Ernie.

Swap Week. No Problem

Notes from Ernie’s swap week trainer: What a sweet and loving boy! Ernie is an amazing dog and was such a joy to take care of during swap week. He had no issues adapting to a new environment or routine. He settled in nicely.

Show and tell was great. He did very well with all of his commands and behaviors. Whoever is adopting this boy is in for a real treat! You will enjoy having him around.

Cute Tail And Adorable Ears

Week 8 update for Ernie: He did very good at show and tell. He is doing great at jump and off. Down is still a work in progress, but he should have it figured out very soon. His trainers will keep going through all commands and work on distance and duration. Ernie still shows no interest in toys, but he enjoys playing with his trainers and running on the big yard.

Ernie has made progress and is doing so much better getting his nails trimmed and ears cleaned. Great job Ernie! His trainers said he has grown on all of them and they know he will bring just as much joy to his forever home as he has at Jenkins.

Who's The Best?... Ernie

Ernie has had a great week!  He’s gotten jump figured out really well.  He and his inmate trainer are working on the duration, but that will come with a little extra practice.  His inmate trainer says that they plan to work on “down” as the new command for the week.  This is last of the basic commands, which means extra commands are in his future.

Still no interest in toys yet.  I mean who wants to play with toys when you can be snoozing, relaxing, and eating yummy treats!

Training Is Going Great

Ernie doing a lot better with sit this week!  He’s doing great with all of his commands.  He’s catching on quickly and now they are working toward fine tuning the commands he has down pat.  His current work in progress is jump.  His inmate trainer says that as soon as Ernie has this command down pat they’ll move on to trying to get him to play with toys.  So far, he’s not shown any interest in playing with them, but his inmate trainer thinks that as soon as Ernie finds out how fun those squeaks can be, he’ll be all in!

Ernie's Journeys

Week 5 update for Ernie fans! This last week was great. Ernie is starting to sit on command and they are working on increasing distance and duration. They introduced Ernie to jump and he is going to take his time on that one, but he’ll get the hang of it. During their weekly “Show and Tail”, Ernie did great on the commands. His training team knows that he will get them all mastered to perfection before graduation.

They're still trying to get him to play with toys and so far he shows no interest in them. But, for some of these dogs, it can take a while for them to really understand what a toy is. Ernie’s training team will continue introducing him to toys and other new commands for the rest of the week. See you next week!

Good Job Ernie

This past week was the first show and tell. This is where the trainers take the greyhounds in front of everyone and show them what they know so far. They are still working on sit, but Ernie blew the rest of the commands he knows out of the park! (Heel, stay, wait, stairs and his kennel routine). Way to go Ernie!!! Once Ernie has “sit” accomplished, his trainers will introduce a few more commands.

Ernie is great at leash walking and doing commands with his training team. This week they are going to let others walk him and work on his commands, so he will do them for anyone. His trainer looks forward to the next several week with Ernie.

Neck Rubs Please

Week 3 is off to a good start. Ernie’s trainers continue to work on his kennel routine, which consists of “wait”, “kennel”, “release” and “heel”. He’s not quite perfect, but he’s well on his way.

This week they introduced sit. He’s slow to respond, but will catch on in time. They continue to work on his leash skills and will expand his training session times, so they can start introducing more commands. All in all Ernie is doing very well and his trainer is happy with his progress so far.

Ernie loves to have his neck rubbed. He will trade treats for a good neck rub. Check back next week for more updates.

Fast Learner

The past week has been great!  Ernie and his inmate trainer have been working on leash walking and a kennel routine.  His kennel routine includes wait, release, heel and kennel.  Ernie is a fast learner and he’s doing really well!  While he’s leash walking he will easily stop and wait until he’s told, “let’s go.”  He’s also doing really good with the heel command.  His inmate trainer says he plans to continuing working on these commands while slowily introducing new ones.  He wants to keep it fun and rewarding for sweet Ernie!
