Falling For Shay

It was Swap Week this week! This means that Shay spent the week with an alternate inmate training team going over her commands.  Her alternate inmate trainer says that Shay is one of the sweetest hounds he’s ever worked with.  He says that she’s so adorable that you just can’t help falling in love with her.

She had no problems adjusting to being away from her primary trainer.  She didn’t mind having her teeth brushed, ears cleaned, or her nails clipped.  She does well with toys and her feeding routine.  She really loves hanging out in her bed.  Her alternate inmate trainer says that this week was a real treat!

Friendly And Affectionate

This week Shay finished mastering her final two commands. Her stay, she now knows well, but she improved the most on “wait”, staying on the outside of the door as her trainers walked into the room with toys! Great job Shay!

This week Shay was stuck inside because of the rain, so she spent a lot of quality time in the training room playing with toys and going over her commands. She’s so ready to get to her forever home and hopes for lots of comfy beds, toys and treats galore. A fenced in yard would be a bonus.

Shay’s trainer said even though she’s 4 years old, she still is a playful puppy and a sweetheart. This leaves him confident that this cute, outgoing, affectionate and friendly girl will instantly settle in with her forever family.

Shay "The Love Bug"

Shay has shown a lot of improvement on her commands this week!  She showed off her improvement during Show and Tell.  She got high scores on all her commands except 4.   In truth, she’s a little nosey and wants to explore.  She knows 2 of them 4 well and the last 2 she’s close to having them all figured out.

She loves toys, but usually releases the toy with the “give” command.

Her inmate trainer says that her best attribute is her affectionate disposition.  He said that some new people moved in this week and she’s been excited to meet them all.  He calls her “Shay the love bug” as she’s happy to meet any and all  humans!

Ready To Meet You

This week was mid-session testing for the greyhounds. While Shay didn’t get all perfect scores, she made up in cuteness. Shay only has some wrinkles to iron out. Her trainers are confident she’ll have them all neat and pressed by graduation, considering her strong treat and toy motivation.

Shay enjoys playing with toys… Actually she loves playing with toys. The only thing she loves more than toys, is her desire to meet new people. With her tail wagging, no one is a stranger to her. Her trainer is confident she will be a great pet, instantly welcomed into her very lucky forever family.

Fun Times Ahead

Hello fans of Ms. Shay. This week has been great. They had their testing and Shay is doing awesome with her commands. She should have them all mastered very soon. She just needs to improve on heel, down and wait.

Shay’s trainer found out she loves to be the center of attention. When she is, she will smile and lay down on the floor and put her legs in the air and roll around. She’s such a clown and keeps you smiling and laughing. There’s not a dull moment when shay’s in the room.

Learning & Playing

This has been a fun week.  Shay got to run in the big yard and show how fast she can fly.  She’s been playing with toys and has done so much better with not jumping on people with enthusiasm.  She’s sitting on command and seems to understand that this must be done first before meal times.

Shay’s inmate trainer says that he’s thrilled with the progress Shay has made!  He’s enjoying working with her and can’t wait to see what she learns next.

Squeaky Toy Shenanigans

This week Shay spent time working on waiting before walking through a doorway. She hasn't done it very much, but now that her trainer has got her leash walking down, he can let his team walk her. He has also been working on sit and she understands what he wants her to do, so now all he has to do is get her to do it on command. He thinks this will be very easy because she is a very smart hound.

He introduced her to toys this week and she liked the squeaker in the toy, but not necessarily the toy itself. He will keep introducing her toys every week and we'll see where it goes! Until next week…

Attention Sponge

This week Shay was introduced to meeting new people and new things.  She loves it when people pet her and hug on her.  She’s an attention sponge!  She’s been working on the following commands:  heel, bed, stay and here.  She’s adjusting to dorm life and new daily routine very well.

She doesn’t mind having her hair or teeth brushed; she actually seems to enjoy it!  Her inmate trainer says that he’s looking forward to seeing what Shay learns the coming weeks!

Hello Friends!

Hello everyone! My name’s Shay. That’s what my trainer calls me and I think I like it. After arriving at Jenkins, my trainer gave me a bath and cleaned my ears. Boy did I like it. Now I’m squeaky clean.

I’m learning kennel, stay and release. I’m doing pretty good with those commands and I can’t wait to learn more. This training thing is going to be fun. Stick around to see how things are going in my world. Chat with you later.
