Very Fast Learner

Dash and his trainers have come to the end of the 10-week training period.  Dash is ready to begin his new life at his forever home and is happy that you allowed Second Chance Greyhounds to pick your forever pet.

You will be even more happy to learn that Dash knows all of his basic commands and was able to pick up on everything his trainers showed him very quickly.  They said it was a blast to work with Dash and spend time with him.

Laid Back Kind Of Guy

Welcome back Dash fans! It’s week 9 and you know what that means? Swap week. That is where the trainers switch dogs to see how they respond to different people in a different setting. Dash’s swap week trainer said he did great with his 13 basic commands and didn’t show any signs of separation anxiety while away from his primary team. They said he’s a really laid back boy and loves getting his ears and neck scratched. He should fit into any family. Dash will be dashing his way into your home and heart soon!

What the Heck are Toys?

Dear future forever family,

We are only weeks away from graduation and Dash is having a blast! The trainers love to take him out of his kennel to watch TV together because he is so laid-back and loving. They are going to miss him so much!

They’ve been working on getting him to play with toys, and he still has no interest in them. It’s not unusual for greyhounds to take a long time to grasp the concept of toys! He started out by trying to get the peanut butter out of the toy, then they rolled it around to pique his interest, and he just looked at it, so it went back into his kennel. A few hours later, he started to play with it, but it’s a work in progress.

Thank you for reading about Dash this week - check back next week for more!

A Complete Gentleman

Hello again, future forever family! Here's another update about the progress that your greyhound Dash is making. He has gotten better at waiting at the door before he goes outside. He will now wait and not move even if you tug on the leash! He will stay there until you say let's go, and then he will proceed to walk with you. He is very loving and has his feeding routine down pat. His trainer loves spending time with Dash, because Dash makes his day go by so fast and makes everything so fun. He is still trying to get Dash interested in toys, and will keep trying. Dash is a great dog and will make a great member of your family. His trainer will continue to work out the kinks and fine-tune him before he bounds right into your home and heart. Until next time!

Attention Hound

Dash’s inmate trainer says that Dash is doing great!  He has no problems learning any commands or performing them for other people.  He knows most all of his commands with both hand signal and verbal cues!

He still has not shown any interest in toys yet, but that may change.  He is an energetic guy who loves to play and soak up attention.  His inmate trainer believes that he is going to make a fantastic addition to his forever home!

Dashing into Your Heart

Hello again from Dash’s primary trainer! This week the trainers had the secondary trainers do show-and-tell, when they take the dogs through all their commands that they should know. Dash's trainer was so proud of him for doing such a good job. He did everything very well and got all of his commands right. And with a new person, that's very impressive! He is also getting better at leash walking and will stay at your side the entire way.

Dash and his trainer watch a lot of TV together. He likes lying on his day bed and sleeping all day. They walk around and spend a lot of nice quality time together, too. Sometimes when he gets bored, he makes sounds like a horse and just looks at his trainer waiting for a command. Sometimes this guy is just ready to go and do something! His trainer tries to keep him as active as he can. Tune in next week to hear more about this cool guy's progress!

Dreaming Of A Forever Family

Dash here and I’m having an amazing time here at Jenkins. The guys here are so nice and I’m learning so much from them. I already know most of my commands very well. “Leave it” is a not one of my favorite ones. Why does my trainer tempt me with a yummy treat and then not want me to eat it. That’s just wrong.

I checked out the toys this week. Not a fan…just yet. But these dog beds are heaven. My trainer likes to pet me when I’m hanging out on my bed. I love to dream about my forever home. I hope it’s got lots of comfy beds and yummy treats for little old me.

Sitting King

Dash is a smart boy and has started to pick up on all his commands. He seems to be getting more comfortable in his new surroundings. He is always ready to get out of his kennel and walk around. He’s doing very well leash walking. He will stop when his trainer stops. He has learned how to “sit” too, and does it with such ease. This is usually a command that is harder for a greyhound to learn. Well, not for Dash. He works to please his human.

Dash also knows “bed”. His trainer will point to his bed and Dash will make a couple circles and then lies down. He will stay there until his trainer tells him “release”. So far training has been easy and his trainer is looking forward to teaching him some new things next week. See you then!

Handsome Boy

Hello again. This is Dash’s trainer giving you the low down for the week. It starts out at 4:30 am with some stretches, then a quick walk around the dorm working on leash walking. Then it’s feeding time. Dash is doing very well with “stay”, “release” and “kennel”. These are some commands his trainer uses before he gets to eat. After breakfast, it’s outside to “hurry” and work on more leash walking. Then it’s training time. They work for a little and then play a little. They do short training sessions throughout the day to keep them interested.

Dash likes being around new people and getting petted. He likes his trainer to rub his belly. He will lay on the bed and let his trainer pet him all day. He’s a silly boy. if you pet him on the left side of his neck, he tilts his head and wags his tail. It’s too cute! He loves to be brushed too.

Off To A "Dash"ing Good Start

Dash has arrived for training!  His inmate trainer says that Dash was excited to arrive and start his new life.  He was so excited he decided to lead the way, although he had no idea where he was going!  Guess what this means?  It means his inmate trainer is working with him on leash walking skills.  He’s showing real improvement walking beside his trainer and not pulling like a freight train.

His inmate trainer says that Dash is smart boy!  He’s already learned to wait at the door and stay until told to “let’s go”.  His inmate trainer says he’s so proud of Dash’s progress in just one week!
