Just Give Me One More Marshmallow

Copper’s inmate trainer says it’s been a privilege to train Copper.  He says it’s been a great 10 weeks!  Copper is a wonderful dog with captivating eyes that just make you want to give him just one more marshmallow.  Cooper has a good-natured attitude, and he’s very smart with just the right amount of clever mixed in.  He enjoys playing with toys, but show him a ball and all other toys cease to exist. He likes to spend his evenings lying around watching T.V. and catching stray popcorn from time to time.  He’s an affectionate guy who will take up with anyone who will spare him a scratch behind the ear.  Prepare yourselves, Copper is easy to fall in love with and is sure to make your life complete!

Summer Catch

Hello, and welcome to another update with Copper! This sweet boy knows all his basic commands and LOVES to play with toys. He's doing well with the "give" command even right after you give him the toy!  He has no problem with any of his commands and has been having a ton of fun. He is such an amazing dog to be around, and boy he is FAST! When he's out on the big yard, he really puts on a show. He must have been getting hyped up watching Justify nab the Triple Crown! For his large size, he is surprisingly fast (but hey, so are horses - and greyhounds, kind of, are just little horses...).

Copper also loves to catch. What you do is get a treat in your hand, then back up a few steps and toss it to him - he'll catch it in his mouth! It's really cool and a super cute trick to show your friends. Well, that's all for now. There will be more soon on Copper - and graduation is only a week away!!!

Fallin' For You

Week 8 with Copper has been great!  He did get a little distracted during Show and Tell this week when it came to the “heel” command, but he did just fine with all other commands.

Copper continues to show how great he is.  He enjoys playing with toys, humans, and other dogs.  He likes to walk around the dorm giving and receiving love from everyone.  His inmate trainer says that Copper has become his favorite dog out of all of the ones he has trained.  He says that he just knows that his forever family is going fall hard for this sweet boy!

Absolute Superstar

This was another great week for Copper doing his commands! He scored all 9's and 10's, and that was with a NEW trainer who had never taken a dog through all the commands in front of a crowd! So that just goes to show how eager to please, easy to train, and obedient Copper is!

He also continues to show his gentle, affectionate side more and more. He has begun to "kiss" this week; that's where he touches his nose to your cheek if you point to it. He also is enjoying playtime more and more, especially with balls, and then laying on his bed, just relaxing near people outside of his kennel.

After nearly two months with Copper, it is safe to say that he is truly one of the best dogs ever. He will make a GREAT companion for any family, and the family who is lucky enough to snatch him up will become attached to this lovable fella instantly. You will be glad you took a chance on Copper and you'll be blessed with years of unconditional love and affection - in both directions!

Ready to Love Ya!

Hi everyone! It's your favorite Copper "Top" here, cause like the battery I am always ready to go. That is, to be out of my kennel and be around people! But don't worry, I don't get wild or anything. I just wanna be loved on and love on you! I'll even start a hug by putting my head in people's laps, or against their chest if they squat down, or just lean against them (the classic greyhound hug). This is my favorite.

As much as I like it here with these guys, I can't wait to be with a family to love on forever, cause I've heard that's the BEST! Hey... maybe that could be YOU! If so, I can't wait to meet you and love on you for the rest of our lives!

Jolly Copper

This week Copper again did very well with his commands. He needs some work on "leave it" but he got way better at "bed." More importantly, he has continued to showcase his wonderful personality... resting his head on his trainer's foot like a human pillow while he's on his day bed.  He enjoys playing with toys in the yard and "keeping" his favorite toy - a squishy ball - and just wandering the dorm being social and affectionate, yet calm, with whoever is around.

Copper is truly going to make a wonderful pet and become a beloved addition to his forever family. If you choose to be that lucky family, you won't be disappointed!

Giver Of Greyt Hugs

Copper scored gold and silver on his commands this week!  All 8's and 10's. That's great improvement over last week.  Way to go Copper!!  His trainer continues to be impressed with how quickly he learns and is so eager to please.  Especially when food is involved!

Copper is a well-rounded dog.  He is not overly energetic.  He is very friendly to everyone, yet doesn't get super excited with new people.  If you're one of the lucky ones, Copper will give you a "hug" by putting his head against your chest.  He will do this if you squat down in front of him.  Who doesn't love a greyhound hug?

His trainer just loves him.  The more he spends time with Copper the more Copper becomes his favorite greyhound.  Shhh!  Don't tell the other dogs he's trained.  Copper will melt your heart in a matter of minutes.

Anything for a snack!

Copper improved quite a bit this week with his commands. He did all right on Friday's show and tell, but when it was time to shine for Miss Patti on Saturday, he was a shooting star! And he does his commands even better with a bowl of food as motivation at feeding time. The way to this hound's heart is definitely through his eminently rubable belly!

As impressed as his trainer is with how quickly and how well he has learned his commands, his trainer is even MORE impressed with his dynamic personality. He's kept his moderate energy level with just the occasional outburst of excitement, appropriately, around toys and when running in the big yard. He's the same with being friendly and has steadily improved with staying on his bed. He seems to really love relaxing outside the kennel, laying nearby while his trainer watches TV with the other trainers on the team.

Copper has been such a joy to train so far, his trainer reports, and he's looking forward to the remaining weeks of getting to know and love him. This handsome guy will give you years of love and joy if you invite him into your heart and home!

All Star!

The first full week with Copper saw a LOT of progress! He's beginning to learn "sit" and walked up and down stairs for the first time. He's improving on the bed and heel commands, and he knows five other commands well already, performing them with no difficulty (Hurry, let's go, release, wait and stay).

More importantly, he has continued to get more comfortable and show his personality. He has a good "middle of the road" energy level. The only time he gets overly excited is when other dogs are running and he's not ("guys, wait for me!!!"). Even with toys he hasn't gotten too excited, and he is still motivated the most by food. He is friendly towards everyone!

With his even temperament and being such a well-rounded dog, his trainer is confident that whatever type of family adopts him, Copper will make a wonderful and beloved addition to the family!

My Name's Copper! I'm A Greyhound Dog!

With all the changes on the first day arriving at the prison, Copper was a little hesitant, but each day he holds his head higher and is a little more confident.  So far he seems to be low-energy, a quick learner and eager to please.  His trainer is impressed at how quickly he picked up on bed, kennel and stay.  He is highly motivated by food and treats, but doesn’t mind some affection and toys as a reward too.

Copper has shown no signs of aggression.  His trainer can put his hand in or near his food bowl, and if told to “give” allows it to be taken away with no resistance.  He also was very calm when getting a bath, his nails trimmed and ears cleaned.

With his gentle and eager to please spirit, his trainer is sure Copper will shine as bright as a new penny, and he will shine his way into the hearts of his forever family!
