It's the final countdown!

Axel was so much fun to train! He loves to be petted and loved on, and he is so smart. He picks up on a lot of commands really quickly. He loves to watch television, and he probably wonders how the heck all those people got in the box!

Last week was final testing and he did an EXCELLENT job. His trainers are really going to miss him and hope you enjoy having him around as much as they did. He's a one-of-a-kind hound and he is going to make a great addition to your family!

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

Axel just got back from swap week and he enjoyed his sleepover with the other trainer.  He did great away from his primary trainer.  No problems with this boy.

Axel has been working on his stair climbing with a squeaky toy.  With a little persuasion of the toy, he goes up and down them fairly well.  He tries to take a shortcut sometimes and jumps from the top to the bottom.  The more he does stairs the better he gets.

Axel loves to play as well as just kick back and relax.  He likes his head petted and when his trainer stops, Axel will paw at him to keep going.  He's just as content just having his paw held.  So sweet.  Axel is going to be a good addition to his new family and he is going to steal your hearts.

Ready For Retirement Life

This past week another primary trainer has the pleasure of working with Axel.  As most of you know, one week out of each session is dedicated to swapping k-9 assignments for the week.  His week long experience with Axel has shown several sides to this boy.  His most common being the calm, sweet, loving greyhound that wants nothing more then to rest his head on your lap or lounge around on a bed while being petted.  Of course that all changes if a squeaky toy is involved. LOLHis ears perk straight up and his eyes go wide waiting for the next throw of the toy in their game of fetch.  This is sure to put a smile on anyone's face.

Swap week wouldn't be complete without telling you about the working side of Axel.  He seems to know when it's time to get to work, as he is very attentive to the trainers and obeys every command very quickly.

In all, his swap week trainer has certainly enjoyed his time with Axel.  Axel's transition to his forever home should be a fun and exciting experience for everyone.  Enjoy the awesome Axel!

Master of Commands

Axel is improving so much. He is a fast learner and so easy to teach. Axel has been working on his bow commannd and he is picking up on it lickety split. He is very treat motivated, and has become more comfortable with ascending stairs. He practiced the "leave it" command last week and actually walked right past a piece of chicken without trying to get it!

Axel is so fun to be around and he loves lying around and watching TV. He loves belly rubs and being loved on. He has been a joy to bond with and is so easy to fall in love with. He is going to be missed dearly and his trainers hope you enjoy having him in your home and your hearts.

This Boy's a Keeper!

Another week has come and gone and Axel is doing so well! He works on stairs every day and his trainer even made him some makeshift stairs out of bags of dog food to practice on. A new alternate trainer was added to Axel's team and Axel is doing so well with someone who is essentially a stranger, and who is just starting to learn all about the magic of working with a greyhound.

This coming week, Axel is going to be working with and receiving commands from people who have never worked with this greyhound before. This way, whenever he gets to his forever home, anyone will be able to work with him. Axel would be great for a family or someone who lives alone. He's such an adaptable dog and so loving. He just wants to chill and watch TV with his human. It's so funny to watch him watching the TV!

Axel loves to play with his squeaky toy and he loves food. He is a true renaissance hound, such a well-rounded pup. His trainer has grown so fond of this precious boy. Axel loves everybody, he's gentle, sweet and kind. It would be a crime to let him get away! This one's a keeper.

He's The Best!

What can you say about this sweet pup?  He improves all the time. He knows all of his basic commands and his trainer worked on "paws up" and "jump" this week.  He's so smart, it didn't take him long to learn both of them.  He was nervous about "jump" the first few times, but now he's a pro.  Axel will be working more on stairs this week.  He is not a fan of them, but his trainer feels the more he works on them the better he will get.  Hey, those things can look kind of scary to anyone.

This past Friday was show and tell and Axel's secondary trainer went through all the commands with him with everyone watching.  Axel did very well.  He seems to have no problems taking commands from anyone.

Axel has the "stay" command down pat when on his "bed".  His trainer can say "bed" and Axel will run over to where he is and plop down on a bed beside him.  He will stay there until his trainer calls him.  Axel is a sweet little fella and you can't help but fall in love with him.  He's the best!

A Sweet Boy and His Toy

Another week has come and gone and Axel gets better all of the time with his commands. He gets excited around new people and is so nosy! He just wants to meet everyone. He is such a loving guy and so precious. You can't help but hug him.

Axel is working on getting his commands from different people and spending lots of time around people other than his primary trainer, which helps with separation anxiety. Greyhounds are truly unique - they form powerful bonds with their humans and love you more than you thought a dog could love a person.

He's also extremely fun to play with. His trainer likes to put a bed in the corner of the training room, grab a toy, stand at the opposite corner and call out numbers like they're playing football. Then he throws the toy to the bed and Axel is off! He dives for it and brings it back for round 2, and round 3, and 4... and 5... and infinity...

He is such an awesome dog and makes everyone laugh. Wherever he goes, he will bring smiles and joy to everyone there.

Gentle And Loving

Show and Tell was this Friday and Axel's trainer was so proud of him!  He did "sit" and "down" right on "Q" with no hesitation.  All of his commands are coming along nicely.

Axel is such a gentle boy.  He loves to play and loves squeaky toys.  He goes nuts for them, but will give them up for another one to play with.  His trainer is working with him to "sit" before he gets a toy.

Axel also loves attention.  He can be laying on his day bed and will look at his trainer with his cute puppy dog eyes and put his paw on him, wanting to get petted.  If he stops, Axel will lift his paw again, look at his trainer with his "hey, don't stop" look.  Whoever adopts this handsome little man is in for a real treat.  He's such a loving awesome pup!

Belly Rubs Please

Axel is doing great with his training.  He already has the general concept down of most of the commands.  His trainer has been working with "sit" and "down" at meal time and Axel has caught on fast to these two.  When food's involved, anything is possible.

Axel plays well with toys and the other Greyhounds.  He loves to lay on the day bed and roll over for a belly rub or a little bit of play time.  He's a cutie and he knows it!  He has learned a lot in just a couple of weeks (hurry, let's go, kennel, heel and bed) and his trainer is looking forward to the next 8 weeks with his pal Axel.

Happy Boy

Axel so far has bonded great with his new human teacher. He is a laid-back but playful Greyhound, and he loves toys (no aggression though!), lapping up water, eating food, and having his belly and ribs rubbed.

He is very tolerant of being poked and prodded, and is even tolerant of having his teeth brushed. What a chill dude! He already does "down" on his bed, he's starting to learn "wait" and he's doing well at leash walking. He is getting faster at getting bathroom breaks over with, so he's learning "hurry" very well.

So far he seems to have a medium amount of energy, and sometimes a slightly high amount. Time and patience will tell more, but he is an awesome pup.

It's early in the semester, but his trainer wants to go out on a limb and say that he thinks Axel will be good with kids 10 and older. It's only been a few days but he's such an awesome Greyhound and anyone would be lucky to have this guy in their life.
