Graduation Time

As hard as it is to believe week 10 has arrived and Luna will be leaving the prison to meet her new forever family.  Luna’s inmate trainer says that week 10 is always bittersweet.  Saying goodbye is never easy when you grow so attached, but it helps knowing that Luna is going to a wonderful home to start a new life.

This week Luna and her inmate trainer spent time together and worked on reinforcing the basic commands.  Needless to say, Luna passed her final exam with flying colors and made her inmate trainer very proud!  He says that she’s a wonderful dog and he’s going to miss her very much but is thankful for the time he got to spend with her.

Swapping Dogs and Trainers

This week was swap week!  The inmate trainers swap dogs to test for separation anxiety and to see how well they take commands from other people.

Luna’s alternate inmate trainer says that Luna is a well-behaved little lady.  She is so smart that she only has to be told something once.  She loves to play with toy and calms easily when excited.  He says that he’s had a blast getting to know Luna and that she’s made his time at the prison a little brighter.  He says that it’s very hard not getting attached to Luna and knows that her forever family not have any problems falling in love with this beautiful girl!

Getting In The Groove of Things

Week 8 has come and gone and Luna is still doing really well, and has been settling into a groove her at the prison.  She spends a lot of her day just relaxing, whether on her bed or in her kennel.  She would sleep the day away if she could.

Luna loves to run with the other dogs, but likes to push the other dogs.  Her inmate trainer will throw a ball to turn her attention to something else.  Doesn't he know she's just giving those boys love taps.

Next week is swap week and Luna's trainer feels the separation is going to be harder on him than her.  He is going to miss this girl terribly when she leave the prison to go to her new home.

Luna loves three things the most:

  1. She loves to eat!  Luna will do almost anything for a single piece of kibble.
  2. She would spend the entire day playing all by herself.  She can entertain herself by throwing a toy up in the air and chasing it around.  She's quite the character.
  3. Luna absolutely loves to be loved on.  She will come up to you and put her head on your chest to have you love on her.  If you are looking for a sweetheart of a dog to adopt, Luna is your girl!

One True Friend

Week 7 has come to an end.  Luna's inmate trainer said the only bad part about that is his time with her will be ending in just a few short weeks, but he's not sad, he's happy she will be going to her forever home.  Her trainer knows that whoever adopts Luna will find a true friend just like he has.

This week they worked on counter-surfing.  Luna does not have a problem with this and her trainer feels she won't in her new home either.  She knows the word "no", and the command "leave it", and listens very well to both.  Luna is also very good when you are eating.  She doesn't beg for food and if you tell her to "go lay down", she's gone.

Luna has been pulling a bit on the leash when she gets excited.  As long as you follow through with correction, she will calm down.

Luna exceeds at all of her commands and does them wonderfully for anyone.  He feels she will do great in week 8 for swap week.

Luna is a very loyal girl and she keeps her eyes open for her trainer's return.  He loves it and knows whoever adopts this beautiful girl will too.  He will definitely miss her next week and when she leaves to go to her forever home.

Gotta Love Luna!

Week six has come and gone!  Luna is doing so well with all of her commands, even performing them for other people.  Her inmate trainer says that they will be just fine tuning response times going forward.  She has been doing so well that her trainer added several bonus commands that will come in handy for her forever family.

Luna's trainer says that her personality is shining through more and more everyday.  She loves attention and affection!  Is your home ready to show her love?

Look Into My Eyes...

Week five is complete!  Luna’s inmate trainer says that it has been a fun and rewarding week for them both!

Luna doesn’t mind her inmate trainer snuggling up to her when she’s comfortable in her dog bed.  She just closes her eye and drifts off to sleep happy and content.  He says that she’s so much more relaxed in her new environment these days.  In the beginning she’d get up and head for the door every time it opened, but now she just hangs out in her spot relaxing.

She’s doing really well with her commands, but gets bored easily so they keep training sessions short and fun.  She loves treats of any kind!  She and her inmate trainer are working on leash skills as she likes to pull a bit on walks.  She’s gotten a lot better, but her inmate trainer believes there is room for improvement.

Okay, so… Luna has been playing the “I’m so cute you can’t resist me” card on her inmate trainer.  He’s trying really hard to resist, but admits that sometimes she wins. When it’s feeding time she goes to her kennel lays down and puts both of her front paws off to the left then lays her head down looking at him with those oh so beautiful puppy brown eyes.  He caves and gives her love - a person can only be so strong in the face of such cuteness!

Luna is a fun dog who is extremely smart.  There is no doubt in her inmate trainer’s mind that she’s going to make some lucky family very happy!

Luna Performs Or Not?

Luna has completed week four of this ten week adventure.  Her inmate trainer states that some days are challenging with Luna due to her OCD.  Just kidding, she does get a bit distracted but does know and will perform her basic commands when prompted.

This last week she did very well at our "show and tell". She nailed every command quick and without a treat or reward.  She is exceptional when not distracted.

This last Saturday Ms. Patti and Ms. Lynn from Second Chance Greyhound's came to visit with the intent on seeing how the pups are doing.  Of course, Luna had stage fright and did not want to do any of her commands.  It was to be expected.  We will continue our training and next time Ms. Patti is here, Luna will be ready!

On another hand, Luna loves to go outside and run.  She does pull a bit at first when we get outside, no doubt due to her excitement at BEING outside.  But after about two minutes, she simmers down and walks like a lady.  Luna is a blast to be around.

I sit, I sit!

This week we will work on her commands and her focus when distractions are around and in prison, you can bet there are plenty of those!  She goes into her crate well and is great with the "bed" command but the second something exciting happens or someone walks by, she's quick to jump up.

She has been stealing the puppy's teddy bear so her inmate trainer found her one in the toy bin.  She loves it and sleeps with it every night with her arm around it.  So, if you adopt this sweet girl, you must get her a "Kong Knots Teddy".  She'll be a happy camper!

Luna is good around food.  She doesn't beg and is really good at the "leave it" command.  Her inmate trainer has been trying to get her to fetch.  She is doing it but is slow coming back with the toy.  She does fetch it but would rather take it back to her bed and play rather than bring it back.  It's a CIP - command in progress.

We adore Luna and everyone in the dorm does as well.  She is a blast to be around and is quite the socialite.  She is a fast learner who loves people.  She is sweet, gentle and quite. She will be a great addition to almost any family.

Training? Treats? I Got This.

Wow! It’s week 3 already!  Luna’s inmate trainer says that the weeks are passing so quickly that week 10 will be here before he knows it!  He says that he can already tell that Luna is a dog that he’s going to miss terribly after graduation.

Luna is doing great with training!  Friday at her weekly training testing she did a fantastic job. Her basic commands are going great and she has progressed better than most of the other dogs in her class.  (Proud trainer moment!)  This past week they really worked on focus and follow through.  She’s staying on the bed longer, but still tends to flop down and pop back up.  She’s doing great on the leash and is learning to heel nicely.  So far she has gotten the hang of: heel, sit, down, bed, here, and kennel.  Her inmate trainer has recently introduced: stay, paws up, spin, stay, and jump.

Luna got a small cut on her paw this week.  She’s doing fine and it is healing well.  This little incident has allowed the “leave it” command to be introduced.  She’s doing great at leaving the wrapping on her foot alone!  Luna’s inmate trainer is certain that her new family is going to fall fast for this precious girl!

Curious Luna!

Luna's inmate trainer is really enjoying his time with her.  Her personality is starting to shine bright!  She has already mastered "sit" and "down".

Luna is very curious and wants to know all about everything going on around her.  She loves being around people and getting all the affection.  She has started playing with some toys.  Her trainer enjoys watching her spin and throw the toys up in the air.

Luna is the whole package -  beauty and brains!

Let The Training Days Begin

Wedda’s inmate trainer has decided to call her Luna.  He says that when he first saw her all he could think about is how pretty she was.  He believes the name fits her perfectly because at night she still seems glow.  He says that working with Luna the past few days has made him very happy. She is a smart girl who loves to run into her kennel to see what kind of treat it gets her!  Her leash skills have improved a great deal.  She’s no longer pulling and walks beside her inmate trainer beautifully with her head held high.

She’s progressing so quickly with training that others are teasing him saying that he got a pre-trained pup!  She understands the meaning of “down,” “sit,” “bed,” and “heel” already!  She lays in her kennel until given the command to come out which has really surprised her inmate trainer. He says that he is looking forward to working and interacting with Luna every day and can’t wait to see what she learns next.
