One Handsome Hound

Kato is ready to come home with you! He is a very calm down and plays well with others. He loves outdoor time with other dogs and prefers praise to treats as a reward. As you can see in his picture, he has a stunning coat that gets compliments every day. He enjoys his quiet time in his kennel and is as content to lounge around on his bed as he is to run around in the yard. You are going to love this guy!

One Chill Dude

Kato is doing great-o! He likes to hang out and chill with his trainer and is the perfect companion. He is really good at matching his human's energy - if you get playful, so will he. He's calm once your done, and he may just flop over to make sure you're done.

One unique thing about this guy is he's a slow eater, which is rare for a Greyhound. They typically inhale their food! It takes him between 10 and 15 minutes to finish his food, but don't worry - he's just so laid back and likes to savor his kibble.

Master of Stay

Hi everyone! Just wanna give a shout out to Kato for all the amazing progress he's making. What a great Greyhound! His picture really does not do him justice. He is definitely one of the finest looking Greyhounds in his class, and he's smart to boot.

Kato is a true hound. After 30 minutes of playing, he's ready to relax on his bed or in his kennel. His "stay" is unbelievable. It's like he's glued right to the spot! Whoever is lucky enough to get him will see what a blessing he is. Kato is a beautiful hound with the perfect temperament. Bye for now, but don't forget - Kato is the best!

Practice Makes Perfect

Another week and Kato is doing great. He and his trainer are best buds and he sure is going to miss this boy when he leaves. This week Kato worked on taking commands from other inmate trainers. He had no problem showing the guys that he is smart and knows all of his commands. He knows "hurry", "lets go", "kennel", "release", "here", "sit", "down", "bed" and "jump. He does need a little more practice with "wait" and "heel", but they are working on that with Kato. His trainer has no doubt that he will be A-1 with some more practice. After all, practice makes perfect. Speaking of perfect, I bet you could be the perfect forever family for Kato.

Belly Rubs Are My Fave!

Kato's inmate trainer said his "buddy" is doing great!  They spend their days training and running on the big yard, and their nights chilling watching tv on the day bed. Belly rubs are his favorite!  He's such a  great boy.

His training is going well.  He "sits", "waits"and "downs" with no hesitation.  He is also very good at "let's go", "kennel" and "bed".  His trainer is going to work on "stay" and "jump" next week.

Check out Kato.  He's smart, sweet and cute to boot!

Stairs...No Problem

Kato is improving every week!  His trainer has to say that he loves this sweet boy.  He's smart and so much fun to work with.  He wishes he could stay forever.  LOL

This week Kato worked on stairs.  He was nervous at first, but with encouragement he started going up and down them with confidence.  Kato is now sitting on his own without a treat.  He will do "down" with a little bit of persuasion (a treat).  He is a fast learner and it won't be long before he's doing all of his commands without treats.  Keep up the good work Kato!!

A Stand-up Guy

Kato and his inmate trainer have had quite the adventure this week! He was working with is trainer on the bed command, and the way they do it is this: put a bed by the chair he is sitting in, and have him stand on it. When he gets tired of standing, he'll lay down and then his trainer gives him a treat and says "good bed." This normally takes about 30 minutes. Well, this was not the case with Kato! He stood for two and a half hours! Talk about stamina. Then they called "dog run", our signal for a bathroom break for the pups, so he put Kato back on the bed and finally he laid down. He gave Kato a treat and then they called for a break again. So, let's just say it took a while, but now he responds to "bed" like a champ.

Kato will sit on the beds but not on the pads or floor yet, but he is getting the hang of the motion. He is a very happy dog and full of life. He loves belly rubs and is such a great dog!  He's definitely going to make a family very happy!

Super Greyhound in Training!

Just meeting this big beautiful greyhound already has his trainer hooked! His trainer has named him Kato which was Bruce Lee's guy on the Green Hornet. He's already picking up on his new name really well. Kato is one happy guy and he had no problems with the bath or getting his nails cut when he first came in. He did have a problem walking on the floors at first but he quickly got over it. Being nervous around shiny floors at first is not uncommon for greyhounds. His trainer is super excited about working with him. Kato loves food so training should go pretty smoothly. He's already doing well with the leash walking and waiting at his kennel and at thresholds. Kato and his trainer will be working on his sit and bed commands very soon. Big hopes for Kato!
