Chow Hound

Well, Baron had his final testing of his commands this week with one of the senior trainers and he did really well. He is such a smart dog and has learned his commands so well. At feeding time, all his trainer has to do is open his kennel door and he waits right at the door for his trainer to say “release.” Then he comes around him to the feeding spot and automatically sits right on his own. Without even being told to or seeing a hand signal! His trainer takes his food bowl and puts it in the kennel while he waits in a sit position. Then he releases him, and he shoots right into his kennel to eat. He is a chowhound!

All of the trainers have a treat bag that they wear on their side during training. He knows when he sees it on his trainers side that it is time to work. It helps a lot, and would be a good investment for his forever family to get as well. That way, when Baron does something really good or you wish to encourage in the future, you have treats on your side, ready to help reinforce the behavior.

If you feed him dry dog food, for the first few days with him, his trainer recommends feeding by hand. This creates a strong bond between you and him, especially since it puts your scent on his food (it's a good thing, I promise!). Baron's training team hopes you enjoy having him in your life as much as they have!

See You Soon!

Swap Week has arrived! Baron spent his time with an alternate inmate training team going over commands and spending time away from his primary training team.  Baron’s alternate trainer says Baron is an awesome dog! He’s a sweet boy full of happiness.  He loves to chase toys and play!  A play session before training seems to help him focus a little better on training.

He did great at Show-N-Tell this week responding to all his commands like a champ.  He was excited when they first started, but calmed right down and got his head in the game, pulling it off with a huge success!

Baron is super cute when he turns his head from side to side when he’s being spoken to.  He’ll lick your hand to get your attention and you’re sure to lose your heart to this sweet boy.  His alternate inmate trainer says that working with Baron has been a wonderful experience and he hopes that his forever family will enjoy him as much as he has.

"Stay" Master

Baron did great with Show and Tell this week earning all 10s!  With “stay” his inmate trainer can place him in the front of the group and walk out of sight and back around and he doesn’t move!  He waits patiently until he’s told “release.”  Good Boy Baron!!

He loves all toys! You got one with a squeaker? He’ll take it!  A silent toy you say?  Yep, that’s a good one too!  He was chasing tennis balls around this week.  He will play a little bit by himself but he prefers to play with his hooman. His favorite toys are a donkey and big snake.

His inmate trainer says that Baron is a greyt dog!  He’s sure that happiness follows him wherever he goes!

People Pleaser to the Max

This week during show and tell, Baron got to go through all of his commands with a new person who he had never worked with before! He did really well, all things considered. All of his commands were very polished except for two, and that's only because he was so excited. What else can we say? He is just a smart, excited guy!

His trainer did not know what to expect, but Baron came right up, walking with his trainer just as easily as any well-trained dog, right by his trainer’s side, with his tail wagging.

Once he was asked to do one command and got a treat for it, he got even more excited. He just wanted to do command after command, the little people-pleaser! All he wants is to be loved and treated right, but isn't that what all of us want?

His trainer has no doubt that you will enjoy having Baron in your life and your home, and he will steal a special place in your heart from the moment you meet him. It's hard not to like and immediately love the big guy!

That's all for this week, we hope you stay tuned for more of Baron’s tales and adventures!

Non-Stop Tail Wagger

It won’t be long now before Baron graduates his training program. Are you excited? You can be sure his tail will be wagging left to right like a whip with excitement. He is such a happy-go-lucky boy. He’s doing really well with his training. Wait and jump are the only two that are a little difficult for him, but he’s getting better all the time.

When they first started working on the “bed” command it was hard for Baron to lay on his bed without getting up ALOT. He’s so curious about everything he couldn’t “stay” on the “bed” and relax. It took time, but now his trainer can walk around the dorm and Baron stays on his bed. He will even fall asleep. Good boy Baron.

Favorite Time Of Day = Playtime

When Baron arrived he became known as the Happy Dog.  He was so happy his inmate trainer kept an eye on his tail to make sure he didn’t get “happy tail” (hurting his tail from wagging too hard).   Sometimes when the new dogs come in they can be a bit shy about their new surroundings, but not Baron. He adapted instantly!  We think he looked around and saw all of the opportunities for attention!

Playing is his favorite and Baron doesn’t mind working a little to earn a bit of playtime.  Playtime is a great way to burn energy and you can’t help but feel happy when you watch him having so much fun.  Baron is brilliant and learns quickly.  His happiness will rub off on you.  His inmate trainer says that if Baron could drive he imagines he’d drive a pickup truck with a bumper sticker that says, “Work hard. Play harder.”

Unconditionally Happy

It has been about a month with Baron here and his personality has not changed a bit. He still comes out of his kennel with his tail just a-wagging! Doesn't matter if they're walking around the dorm, doing a training session, going on a bathroom break, or going to the big yard to let him run. He is just happy! As long as he is doing something, he is full of joy. His trainer was told that he is the only dog that ever goes up stairs and down them with their tail wagging.

If you want to see him get really happy and excitable, show him or give him some food. Could be dry dog food, special treats, popcorn, peanut butter, or marshmallows. He is super excited about it all. Or you can show him a toy! Baron has a lot of energy and loves playing with toys:chasing them, tossing them around, and chewing on them. He likes them all. He got introduced to stairs last week and a lot of dogs were unsure about them, more so, about going down than going up. But not Baron! He went up and down them twice last week and this week with no problems. Because he is so excitable at feeding time, his trainer is having him wait until he calms down before he feeds him or give him any treats. His trainer suggests that you do the same; this way he learns to be calm for him to get fed. This is all for now, and we hope you stay tuned for more updates on his adventures!

Soccer Star

Baron has found a love for toys. The noisier the better. His favorite one is a snake with several squeakers in it. He will sling it, chew on it and chase it around. So beware all snakes when Baron’s on the loose. LOL He also played with the “jolly ball”. You roll it or throw it to him and he will chase it, bite it, roll it with his nose and chase it some more. Give it a bounce and watch his soccer skills in action. He will jump in the air blocking the ball. Sign him up. He’s your next goalie soccer star!

Baron’s commands are coming along nicely. He’s right where he should be for week three. Stay tuned for more adventures with Baron.

King of Kisses

This week Baron got introduced to some more commands and tried a few new things. He is doing a lot better and learning quicker than his trainer anticipated! Baron is a curious and excitable guy, so his trainer figured the commands that required staying put would be tough for him to master. But his trainer was happy to be wrong, and Baron is doing quite well with these.

With ‘stay,’ his trainer gets him to stand at the back of the training room without moving and then his trainer walks away, turns toward Baron, pauses, then goes back to Baron – all without Baron moving! It definitely helps a lot that Baron loves food, because he would do anything for a treat. He is one smart boy!

He still loves meeting new people in the dorm, tail a-wagging when he goes up to a new person to be petted and rubbed. He also enjoys giving kisses to both dogs and people, just so you know 😊.

That’s it for this week! Check back next week to find out how training is progressing and how many kisses he’s stolen!

Investigator Baron

Baron’s inmate trainer says that if you’re looking for a dog that is extremely happy, curious and exciting then Baron’s the dog for you!

He came into his new surroundings with his tail wagging and full of curiosity.  As a matter of fact, it’s hard to catch him without his tail wagging.  He’s wagging happily just walking down the hallway or coming out of his kennel.

His first day in the program he stood happily for his bath, ear cleaning, and weigh-in.  The last few days he’s been exploring his new environment, investigating every corner.

They haven’t started working on a lot of commands yet as they’ve mainly just been focusing on leash walking and “Let’s Go”.  His inmate trainer says there are more adventures to come and he’s looking forward to the days ahead with Baron!
