Toys, Toys, Toys

As the session winds down and graduation is just around the corner.  Adonis' trainer is coming to realize how much he is truly going to miss this handsome, gentle giant.  Adonis did phenomenal on his final testing Friday.  As if there were any doubts.  Ha!  This incredibly smart boy would have no problem learning to do anything a canine could possibly learn. 

Adonis' trainer has said many times before how much he loves his toys, and he does mean toy(s), plural. They will go into the training room and play with a toy and a few minutes later he is ready for another one!  Better stock up on toys now, so he has plenty to chose from.

This big boy will make a wonderful addition to any family, but a warning for that lucky family... he will induce strong feelings of love and affection for him.  You have been forewarned!  LOL

Ready To Race Into Your Heart

This past week was swap week and his swap week trainer was immediately smitten with Adonis!  He said this "gentle giant" is a very laid back dog who enjoys hanging out.  He's very sweet and totally cool with you loving on him.  Adonis showed no signs of S.A. and performed all of his commands.  He was a little reluctant to do "down", but he did it eventually.  Such a good boy!

Adonis is a playful and entertaining greyhound and will endear himself to his new family for years to come.  Look out forever family.  Here comes Adonis!

Stunning and Regal

This week started out with Adonis having a little stomach bug.  His trainer said it was sad to see this fun playful boy not feeling well.  As the week progressed, it was noticeable that he began to start feeling much better.  He has now fully recovered and is back to himself, and just in time for swap week.

Swap week is a training tool used to test the dogs on their reactions to being away from their primary trainer.  Adonis' trainer has no doubt that Adonis will perform well regardless of who is giving the commands.  He is such a sweet and well behaved boy!  Between his love for toys and his love for food this handsome young man was a cinch to train. Keep up the good work Adonis!  Your new family is going to be so lucky to adopt you.

Speed Racer

If a best friend is what you are looking for then Adonis is your boy. He absolutely loves to be around people. When his trainer walks near his kennel his head perks up, hoping he'll get to come out and play together. Being off-leash outside opens up a new dimension of fun. Adonis ends up running full speed from one side of the field to the other.

Thankfully, Adonis the fast boy responds well to recall. Anyone who has ever owned a dog knows how great it is when their dog comes running when called. Everyone in the program loves Adonis and his trainer knows he will fit right in with your family!

Handsome Boy!

Adonis is progressing more and more as the weeks pass by.  He's got a great grasp on all of his commands and really enjoys going into the training room and playing with all of the toys.  His inmate trainer literally means with ALL the toys!  He can't have just one, he has to have them all!  Adonis hopes his new family has lots of toys for him at his forever home.

Adonis is very attentive, especially around feeding time.  He is doing much better at making eye contact to show it.  Adonis definitely lives up to his namesake (God of beauty).  He's such a handsome boy and will fit great into any kind of family!

Master Commander of the Squeak Toy

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through training here at Second Chance Greyhound Academy. As easy and fun as Adonis has been to train, it sure has made time fly by! From his trainer's perspective, this is a great benefit to this program. He quizzes Adonis daily on his commands and even get strangers to work with him. And he performs wonderfully!

The majority of his day is spent tossing a squeaky toy around our training room. You certainly can't say this boy isn't enjoying retirement!

All Around Greyt Dog

Have we mentioned how much Adonis loves toys?  His inmate trainer can't help but laugh at this goofy boy when he runs to the box of toys and sits staring at them, hoping he will get one out for him.  There's no question...  Adonis is definitely enjoying his retirement!

Adonis is a curious boy.  If he hears a noise, he is off to investigate.  He is a perfect all around greyt dog.  He is obedient, tolerant to just about anything, plays well with other dogs and loves people.  It's just a bonus that he is also a gorgeous greyhound!

Outside he seems to love the feel of the wind through his fur, because you will see him running in circles leading the other dogs on a chase.  It is amazing to see how fast he runs.

Adonis' inmate trainer is proud at how he has excelled in his training so far.  He knows "hurry", "let's go", "kennel", "release", "wait", "here", "sit" and "stay" very well.  He needs some improvement on "heel", "down", "bed" and "jump".  He's got plenty of time before graduation and will have them figured out by then.  He is not a fan of the stairs, but no worries.  This trooper will pick it up soon.  Stay tuned...

Goofy Lovable Buddy

Adonis' inmate trainer reports that this gorgeous greyhound is excelling with his training. It's like everything has just clicked and he is picking up everything very easily. He's done very well with "sit," "heel," "wait," "stay" and even "jump." 

So far the stairs are still a bit daunting for him, but it's early in the Second Chance Greyhound Academy school year, and the important thing is that he's willing to learn. That is the key.

During off time, his inmate trainer takes him into the training room and lets him have play time. Adonis is such a goofy boy! Once he gets a toy, he is sure to put a smile on your face. He will shake, spin and throw the toy around the room, and he is so much fun to be around. 

Here is a bonus fun fact about our boy: Adonis is the 500th greyhound to come through Second Chance Greyhounds! We couldn't have asked for a better Greyhound to hold this most honored and esteemed position. 

"Sit" = Milestone

Adonis reached a milestone this week.  He "sat" unassisted!.  Awesome job Adonis!! This is hard for greyhounds with all those muscles.  He is improving with his basic commands like "hurry", "kennel", "wait", "heel", and "here".  He is such a happy boy.  His tail is always moving and he is very eager to meet new people.  He is a little uncomfortable on the shiny floors.  It's a work in progress, but he's a champ and presses on through.

Adonis is showing a big interest in toys.  He enjoys chasing a ball too.  Now if he would only bring it back...       

Adonis is an all around playful, happy and beautiful greyhound.  Wouldn't you love to have him in your life?  He is dreaming of his forever home with you.

Gentle Giant

Adonis is having no trouble adjusting to life away from the track.  So far his time has been spent lounging out on a dog bed, playing with squeaky toys and stretching his legs on the big yard.  Don't be fooled by his size.  This boy is proving to be very gentle (a gentle giant).  He is comfortable with anyone hugging him around his neck, taking food/toys away from him.  He even likes to share his bed with the other dogs that will let him.  What a sweetheart!

Adonis' inmate trainer has already fallen in love with him and looks forward to the training weeks ahead.  He is a gorgeous Greyhound looking for his forever home.  Look into his eyes and get ready to fall in love too.
