Sweet Brown-Eyed Girl, Roxie

Roxie's inmate trainer writes:  "Well, this is my last blog for the sweet brown-eyed girl, Roxie.  I have been blessed to have had an awesome greyhound like Roxie as my first dog as a primary trainer."

"I can't really think of any hardships in training Roxie.  She picks up on everything so fast.  If there needed to be any corrections or changes of any kind, she went with it, learned and moved on (with some pouting. Ha! Ha!)."

"I have learned so much from her as she has from me.  Roxie will be missed.  We try not to get too attached to these greyhounds, but it's hard, especially with one like Roxie.  She will hold a special place in my heart, not just because she was my first greyhound as a primary, but because Roxie is just Roxie."

Whispering Roxie

Roxie's inmate trainer said this past week, of course, was a joy with her.  It never ceases to amaze her trainer how smart this little pup is.  He kept Roxie on her toes this week, by changing the way he was giving his hand signal for "whisper" to see how she would react.  Her trainer is now putting his index finger to his lips along with the verbal command "whisper". She picked it up right away and never skipped a beat in responding to the command.  She is very smart and will do all her commands like a pro.  She is definitely ready for next week!

Roxie is sleeping on a bed next to her trainer and he is happy knowing that she will be going to a good home;  A home that will love her as much as she will love them.

Drama Princess

Roxie has found her voice this week!  This is not a bad thing, since she only barks when she is in a playful mood.  More of her personality has been coming out over the last few weeks.  She has such an animated personality and still acts like a puppy at times.

When Roxie has been in her kennel awhile, and her inmate trainer comes back to his bunk, Roxie will lift her head up in hopes that he will open the kennel door for her to come out.  If he doesn't she will either blow air out of her cheeks or give a short exasperated whine, and then she plops her head back down and gives another exasperated blow of the checks.  Talk about impatient.  LOL. Can you say drama princess?

Roxie's inmate trainer has a few short weeks left with this sweet, calm and lovable girl, and he is going to miss her dearly.

A Shining Star

Roxie has had an eventful week mastering all of her basic commands verbally and most with hand signals.  She knows quite a few extras too! ("Bow", "belly", "shake", "give it" and "whisper").  Have you ever heard a greyhound whisper?  Adopt Roxie and find out.

Roxie is definitely a shining star for her inmate trainer.  She is always there to brighten the day.  He will surely miss this lovable gal with the floppy ears, dreamy eyes and gorgeous brindle coat.  She is one greyhound that will take a piece of his heart when she leaves.  He hopes that whoever adopts Roxie, gives her all the love and attention she so deserves.

Giver of Love

Every Friday is "show & tell".  This is a time for the trainers and greyhounds to show how they are doing with their basic commands.  Roxie got "knows well" across the board.  Yay for Roxie! She even took a "bow" at the end, which is an extra command she has been working on.  She also worked on going up and down stairs and she did great!

Roxie is a load of fun when it comes to play time.  She loves to play with the stuffed animals, especially her stuffed alligator that squeaks.  She gets so excited and goes into a running frenzy.  This doesn't last long, and soon she's snoozing on one of the day beds.

Sometimes on the big yard, when Roxie is in the mood, she likes her inmate trainer to chase her.  It's a short race because she and her trainer wear out fast. Roxie is just like her trainer, only a little exercise at a time.

Her inmate trainer says he probably sounds like a broken record talking about how calm, sweet, smart and lovable Roxie is, but he just can't help it.  Everyone at the prison loves this girl and she gives the love right back.

Brightens Every New Day

Roxie’s inmate trainer says that her racing name, Keep Shining, could not be a better way to describe this awesome girl!  He says that it’s hard to have a down day with her around!

Every morning and evening they take the Greyhounds to the big yard so they can get their exercise.  When walking down the hall Roxie gets excited and walks a little ahead of her inmate trainer.  He tells her “easy” and she slows down and stays right beside him.  Roxie loves being outside and will join the other dogs for a short run, but she’s not interested in spending all of her time running.  She will play for a short time but really enjoys exploring and hanging out with her trainer.

This week Roxie has been working on the “leave it” and “jump” commands.  She’s doing “jump” like a champ!  The “leave it” command needs a little more work, but she’s making great progress.

She's A Keeper

Week 3 of training with this fur loving and smart girl is going very well.  Roxie puts a smile on your face whenever you are around her.  If her trainer could keep her, he absolutely would!

Part of Roxie's daily routine is to go around to everybody, and in her own way, say "hello" after her training sessions.  She has the cutest curl to her tail, and it goes a mile a minute when you say "hello" back to her.  She enjoys being in the day-room with everyone just lying around on one of the dog beds.  "Bed" is one of her favorite commands.  That sure is hard to believe.  LOL

Roxie's inmate trainer is proud tosay that she is mastering "sit", "down", and is coming along quite nicely with her other basic commands.  She is eager to learn and please.

Just from these few weeks with Roxie, her trainer knows he is going to miss her.  He looks forward to each day training this sweet little greyhound.  She is going to bring her new family a lot of fun and love.  How can you resist that cute face?!

Beautiful Little Girl

Roxie is such a sweet little girl with innocent brown eyes that you can’t help but be drawn into!

Roxie’s training is going well.  She enjoys being out of her kennel, but has no problem going in and having her quite time.  She continues to do well with her leash training.

Her inmate trainer has started teaching her to “sit” this week and Roxie has started picking up on the concept.  He believes that she’ll have this figured out very soon.

He says that this sweet and calm little girl is one of a kind.  She will easily steal the hearts of her new family!

What A Trooper

Roxie is a very calm and sweet brindle girl.  She was very alert and not scared of her new surroundings as she walked to her new temporary home (dorm) with her inmate trainer.  It seemed she was looking forward to her new adventure as much as her trainer is.

Roxie didn't mind her bath or medical check.  She was a trooper through it all.  She even watched TV while getting her ears cleaned.  She is a little apprehensive about going into her kennel, but is getting better.  She lays right down when she gets in there.

The inmate trainer has been working on leash training this week.  She has been doing great.  She doesn't pull or lag behind.  She stays right beside her trainer.  Roxie is also learning "wait", and is starting to get the hang of it.  Her inmate trainer is looking forward to training and bonding with this special girl.
